  • Seabiscuit: I feel so sorry for you. I have finals in a couple weeks but my schools library isn't open very much since I'm only in High School.

    • For whatever reason, it's letting me post on this page as logged in, but not on the last page...?

So I just wanted to say... Hungry! Hi! I was thinking about this forum every now and then for like the past month and wondering how you were getting along with collegiate things.

I think it's also a sign of age that generally speaking, I don't know most of the people on here anymore. Totes weird.

As a quick update on me own life, high school is just going. It's almost done-- I've already got my class ring, halfway through junior year. Been singing for a band, going to start performing gigs a little after Christmas. Dated one of my good friends (and I admit, from the little I read, it sounds a lot like your own situation-- he was just not ready for a relationship, which is aggrivating haha) and basically, life's been going on. It's good.

So I just wanted to say hi and pop back on the ToGR while I was thinking of it I hope everyone is doing well!!

      • *Blargle* Hate biology *glurgle* college finals evil *fleegleblops* needs to work

My absolute lack of motivation to do work of any kind because I am somehow already fairly mentally burned out from taking too many science classes is starting to adversely affect my already lame freshman college experience which is NOT being helped by finals breathing down my neck, not to mention the fact that all of my friends at other colleges seem to have their finals this week, while ours are next week even though I'm pretty sure we started at least two weeks earlier because someone decided that they wanted to take any sort of sane schedule into a furnace resulting in some weird schedule that doesn't seem to line up with almost any other more conventional schedule that any of my friend's colleges are on meaning I end up at home during weird times when no one else is around, which just causes irritation and a mild hatred of the world which manifests as a mild depression which I know would go away with enough exercise, but because my college is in the middle of relatively nowhere, my normal source of exercise, Kendo, isn't an option, not to mention the fact that I haven't touched any sort of musical instrument since the end of senior year which is just even more depressing for an "ex"-bando like me who didn't realize quite how much he'd miss something that even used to be as annoying as band camp, which just means that pretty much every single link to my old life has been completely severed because I'm at a college that none of my friends went to and that is sufficiently far away from the town I grew up in and the colleges that my friends attend to make going home or visiting them a pain, and due to the workload, I either don't have time, or am too mentally fried to do anything I used to like doing like video games, or reading which is probably the worst part of it all and blah blah blah

tl;dr: OMG FINALS AAAH! I DON'T FEEL LIKE AVOIDING THE JUNE RUSH SO EARLY!!

Phew... That made me feel a bit better.

        • Bwaha, I and most of my 16-ish large Numbers and Proofs class are holding a study party Sunday afternoon; and we need it. I've already forgotten the formal proof that sqrt(2) is irrational!
I also missed my TA's talk on cool and accessible math problems to bring up at cocktail parties. Aww.

I've got a present already, but no Christmas tree! The Phys/Astro Christmas party is on Friday, but I've no tickets nor strong urge to go. Besides, I'm going to see The Nutcracker after exams =D It'll be nice to see old friends again.

Finally saw Spirited Away, and it was just what I was looking for after a hard semester.

Nick: Good luck with AP and with your choir concert! And at least The Prince is required reading. Means you don't have to work quite as hard to fit a book into your schedule.

Hungry: But study parties are so much fun! well, not really, but they do make the five hours on a weekly assignment pass faster. My library's open 24 hours until exams are over not to mention the various academic club offices I can hide out in. Good luck~~

Mel: Wow, we didn't start getting grad stuff til our last year. but then again, I don't think our school made as big a deal of the ceremony compared to other high schools. (Generic blue gowns ftw.) Have you already started making plans?

Cinnamon Wind and Kathy: I can't say that sushi has ever made me feel better, but I get takeout anyway. It's like the new pizza, just a tad more expensive.

CM: Hey! But that's my rant! well, similar. though exercise wise, I'm just too lazy to walk ten minutes from my usual buildings to the kines centre. There goes the mandatory payment for my campus rec membership >_> but it's mostly fitness or intramurals here anyway; I haven't seen any martial arts stuff. I've been looking into taking tai chi from the taoist society but I keep missing deadlines...
and being a physics major, I can avoid bio entirely =D I've been taking the same load of math courses as a math or comsci major though, which has been messing slightly with my world view.
Most of my friends are now hours ahead of me and get to do expensive Christmas shopping in big cities. or are basking closer to the equator. not really conductive to gaming =(

I am now finished my first university course. =D Yay, Latin (of Science)!

              • If you like Spirited Away, then you might like Miyazaki's other films. When I was little, my all time favorite movie was My Neighbor Totoro, followed by Kiki's Delivery Service. I want to see Howl's Moving Castle, but I can't find it ANYWHERE. Blockbuster had it a few weeks ago, but somebody got it out and it was due in Nov. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! I missed it by about 2 days!!! Oh well.....Enjoy finals That's the nice thing about being in 7th grade.....HA
All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they really happened. And after you are finished reading one you feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you: the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse, and the sorrow, the people and the places, and how the weather was.

I love Kiki's Delivery Service. I might have to check out Spirited Away.

                  • 96: I've been looking for Howl's Moving Castle for a year now xD The library purports to have a copy but it is never there. and I'm bad at picking up holds, especially with our weather here (recent blizzard! -20C highs! \o/). Though perhaps now I have some spending money...

CM: *shrugs* I'm Chinese but I prefer pseudo-Mediterranean food, when I can find it. (Sadly this means mostly Opa! and East Side Mario's.)
I also have to take Chem and an option of Bio or Astrophysics, but I just used my IB credits from high school for chem and then I'm taking Astro. Nice thing is, physics and astrophysics programs have identical first years so I can switch if I decide I want to specialize early.
oh admissions. I've been poking around that too, to decide if I want to transfer and attempt to get out of this city again. bleh.
3 Math/Sci doesn't sound bad, actually. My program structure is 2 math, the physics course, chem, and breadth req (except the bit where I switched out chem for honours discrete math ).

                    • 3 math/sci isn't really horrible, it's just the extra 4 or 5 hours a week of labs that makes it a pain in the rear. That and finals.

And my AP/IB credits got me nothing in terms of getting out of classes because I couldn't use them like that. All I really got was a bit of advanced class standing.

                      • Gah. I tell myself I'm going to be on more often, and then fail on that account.... But I got swamped with school work. But by the end of next week, I'll be free for four whole weeks of break!

                        Anyway!

Nick: Good luck with your finals. I'm in high school, but I've never taken AP classes. I can tell you what college classes are like, since this is my fourth year of them. (I go to a Middle College High School, which is on a Community College campus and take both college and High school classes.... a handful of my friends are getting 3 or more AA's by the end of May!!!). So, college classes.... It depends on where you go and the professor. Like, I've had classes where there IS no final if you show up regularly, or where the final is huge and long and torturous. This semester, I don't have it too bad. I'm taking a Political Science class (ew) and Communications Studies. My Poli Sci professor is pretty cool, he's letting us take half the final home tomorrow and then do the second half in class on final day. In my speech class, because we did well over the semester, we just have to do a short "good bye" speech. Not difficult.... However, last year I took Probability and Stats, and that final was a killer. The teacher wasn't very good, she hated explaining things more than once if we didn't get it, and the final was important enough to bring down your grade a whole letter if you didn't do very well.
So... college all depends on where you go and who you have. But it is true, they expect you to basically remember and do everything on your own. They don't remind you about homework or make you study. They just leave you to your own devices....

Haha, it sounds like all of you are keeping busy. It's just that time of the year, I suppose....

So, I should probably get back to my work - Poli Sci and high school Economy classwork - before it gets too late. It sucks to be swamped with work and sick... bleck. It means you can't even take a sick day to recover and sleep or else you'd miss something important!

                        Anyhow, good luck to everyone!

                        • ATWM: Yeah, college is stressed pretty heavily in my school. We're a college prep, but they take it to a new level haha Well, i've been looking at a couple of schools already, but I'm still exploring majors for the most part. Getting the hang of the different feeling that comes with college. I'm actually looking into the different biology and chemistries, because I'd be really interested in research and development, I think. But I'm not sure if I'm really just intelligent enough to make it without dying haha judging by some of the previous posts.... Hahaha But it's just so difficult because a huge part of me is at home with english (though what can you do with an english degree besides teach and write?) and I love Theology, and music is just an inseperable part. So, really, it's a big question mark at the moment. But I'm getting there. Thanks for asking

Also, just in passing, Howl's Moving Castle is actually pretty awesome.

And that's really it, time to get back to the daily grind of loverly homework The two weeks before Christmas break are always the worst haha

Indeed it is. It's probably also the most loved by the forum, and the closest thing we have to a recorded history around here. I remember going through and trying to manually save about 100 pages when we thought there was a chance that it might get closed.
