  • Still makes me feel old though what with all the schoolpeople in here...

Tired choirgirl here has two more Christmas performances to go... I will be so glad when it's all over, but it is a rush!
Las Vegas Boulevard is jammed, and I'm in love...

    • Haa, I miss choir xD I would have gone north to hear my friend's Christmas concert but ack, school >.< (I did manage it for her band concert: hitched a ride with her mom, bunked in her dorm and then got up at 5am to make it back to school. Seeing as I slept on a wooden frame, not something I want to do often.)
I did sing carols in the lineup for my flu shot today. I didn't get any weird looks, either. :slightlyparanoid:

Mel: I think it's more a measure of stamina and efficiency than intelligence for most classes. And I know next to nothing about US universities, but in many of the major Canadian unis first year programs are rather general anyways, and often you don't choose your program until second year. Plus, nothing wrong with double degrees =D (unless you want to finish school in 4 years, that is.) I'm trying to resist being tempted into a math program (on top of physics, and math isn't really my strength) but it's so pretty...and is tied to YW spell structure! One of my profs tried to describe her talk on braids (topology)...
Anyways, point was, breadth is good. I don't think this really helps, but count this as moral support =D

Nick: Ooh. For lessons/performance or just reading music? (I'm sloooowly working through my Debussy compilation. Having lessons again would be nice.)
-Tell me and I may remember; show me and I'll understand; involve me and I'll never forget. Thank you, PM. Your light lives on.

      • Traveller: Lessons for some reason it's not on the contest list but I might perform it eventually. My other Beethoven piece is for contest and I take private lessons. I played a song by Debussy a while ago for a french contest, it was the girl with the flaxen hair.

        • I haven't been on in a while, but yeah.....it snowed here, then it went away, and now it's snowing again I'm praying for a 2 hour delay tomorrow...Perfect!!! I get to miss math, band/gym, and part of reading (our reading teacher is all about the accelerated part of the accelerated course-luckily i only have her for 1 semester.....) so I'm not missing school for my haircut! Then, I'm in school by 6th and 7th period, so I can go mess up in front of the whole school as part of the Geography Bee (it's actually pretty fun...what's the capitol of the Ivory Coast?) Well, have fun everybody!! Only a week and a half till Christmas (and school break!!)

P.S. The capitol of the Ivory Coast is Yamoussoukro
All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they really happened. And after you are finished reading one you feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you: the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse, and the sorrow, the people and the places, and how the weather was.

I looooooove french music- and I played that song a year ago! It was, hmm, Le Fille Chevaux de Lin, I think, on my music. I don't know french so that's probably waaaayy off, but anyway...right now I'm playing a gorgeous ensemble piece by Gaubert (Autumn Evening from Three Watercolors) that sounds very Debussy-ish. And I'm playing a mozart concerto .

My teacher is verrrry good, but she LOVES mozart and I'm not a big fan. So it's hard to work up enthusiam when I'm working on trills and turns until my fingers fall off.

            • Slivered: I know what you mean. My piece one of Beethoven's Sonatas I'm not sure which one, has three trills and a turn that my teacher wants me to practice about 10 times each day for each one. And ya the Debussy piece is something like that I take French and still don't know

              • NickRyan: Yes, the lovely turns. And of course there's the issue of whether you start them above or below, and counting them, etc. And then you have to make them sound effortless, like "Oh, I'll just add a pretty little ornament here, I think," when actually you've slaved over them

Are you working on any other pieces or competitions? I love to hear about other people's pieces, since I'm music-mad. I'm not usually the biggest talker, but I can talk my friends' ears off about the Classical Period vs. the Baroque.

Gah! Lucky. It snowed a LOT here last year, and now we have absolutely nothing. It's frigidly cold, but this time last year we had sooo many snow days, and my suitemates and I would wake up expecting to find three e-mails in our inbox about canceled classes. Stinky Professors won't cancel for college laziness and cold.

Hey, more randomness? There was just a commercial on in full spanish. It was followed by a chia commercial. I'm watching this area's version of UPN, I'm pretty sure. Er, is it called ION now? Well anyway it's 3 am and I'm watching Star Trek. =)

                  • I really hope it doesn't snow here, as it means I won't be able to go out at all - I don't have a metal ferrule for my walking stick, and if I fall down, it's going to hurt like a mother.

                    • I love snow or at least playing in the snow. Last year there was one day the weather forecasters said we would get 11 inches, but we didn't even get a single inch. How do the forecasters make their predictions?

                      • Wish it would snow here...
If we get anything, we get rain. Today I could almost go swimmming, it's so warm. Ugh.

Somehow I think the rest of the country is getting snow except for my little college a mile from the beach. Like, we had a BUNCH of snow days by this time last year! What gives?! O_o

                          • It is now most definitely snowing here, but it didn't start until fairly late in ithe evening, so with luck most folks won't be stranded at work, or anything like that. Anyone's guess at the moment how long it'll go on snowing. There's quite a bit of wind too, blowing in from the East. Not quite "The Dark Is Rising" weather, yet...

                            • Well, frak. I think I may have doomed myself. It did snow tonight, and I did fall, and hard. I couldn't get up without help, and nearly got run down by a tram. I ache like mad right now, even after 60mg of codeine, a hot bath and a heating pad.

Lazy Leopard: Haha, yeah, "wind from the east" - let me tell you, lots of frigid wind here. I can barley walk from the dining hall back to my dorm without my breath catching in my chest from the cold. It's cold as an icy death out here. U_U

Trialia: Oh my god!!!! Please be okay!! That's horrible! Call a friend over! Watch a movie! FEEL BETTER!!!!!
