  • Ahaha...Wolf, thanks for assuming I have an expensive watch, but mine is a ten dollar plastic watch. My brother has the same one too, and his has been beeping ever since he got it, but mine didn't beep for a year and then started a few days ago. It's actually a really nice watch, though, it's purple and has a stopwatch that measure to the hundreths of a second.

    • Well, uh.... Hi, everyone! I haven't been here in ages.... I can't tell you how much of an outsider I feel like.

School hasn't been too bad. I have a harder, more boring semester to start (Geometry, History 19th, Spanish 2, and Gym/Study Hall on alternating days). Next semester, I have Biology, Advanced Computer Applications, Spanish 3 (with my Spanish 1 teacher, yay!), and English 2. I'm starting to worry that the second semester will end up being the harder one, but I heard that English has very little homework, that most of the work is done in class, and that there are a mix of general ACP and SCP kids, and the ACP kids get their work done early, anyway. I've heard that Bio is really hard.... Spanish is fairly light, and tech classes have virtually no homework.

I've been signing out of Study Hall every time I have it and either going to the Library (usually) or a half-full computer lab to type History notes. We're using an actual college textbook in that History class... the teacher recommends that we split up the notes amongst everyone and share them, but I prefer to do them myself because I type them, I put down every detail, and there are people every test (notes are allowed on tests and quizzes) that don't do their notes and leave other people without them. There's always something to do, though, and I can't stand taking notes at home, so I never get time to look for a good book to read.

Speaking of books, I'm rereading Lemony Snicket's series (I'm on The Penultimate Peril at this point). After that, I plan on rereading and resuming the Artemis Fowl series, rereading and resuming The Last Apprentice series, and then reading the Inkheart Trilogy, which I got for Christmas, for the first time.

Physically, I'm still OK... I went through a stage where my heart was skipping beats a couple dozen times a day, but it's fine now. I've gotten a little taller, but not any wider....

I'm not sure if I've talked about this, but I got my braces off last June! I wasn't expecting it when he did it... he took these pliers-like things that had triangular tips, and these tips went behind the brackets and crumbled the glue. He cut all the glue, and I thought he was just scraping my teeth to clean them, but then I saw the band come out, along with all the brackets, and I felt my (mostly) smooth teeth... WHOA! That was a weird feeling. Now, I have to work on wearing my retainers more... I only wear them at night, and I think my teeth are starting to get crooked again, but I'm not sure, so I'd better be safe than sorry. I missed an appointment weeks, maybe months ago, and my mom still hasn't rescheduled it. I missed a dentist appointment over Winter Vacation, and it's been rescheduled to the 18th, so at least I'll get caught up on one aspect of my dental issues.

Uhhh, sorry about all these rants.... I'll stop now.

        • Heya, welcome back Eric! (You probably don't know me, because I'm new, but I've been posting lots and I saw your name a few times. In the older threads.)

I wish I could get my braces off. This is the second time I've had them: first for crooked teeth, and now for a crossbite. I HATE braces. ugh.

Estar: I actually saw that your name was Spanish. I thought it was a pun. Hee hee.
Re: watch. My brother actually found a watch like that while we were at the beach....

          • I loved getting my braces off (about a year ago, now)! I does feel quite odd, though, to have your teeth be smooth again... especially since I play the flute, and braces are NOT conducive to a nice embouchure. (I had to look up the spelling of embouchure. I looks even funnier than it sounds.)

            • Oh yes, ranting and rambling... if they were looked down upon, I wouldn't be able to post! Hahaa =P

SilveredBlue- I'll definitely have to look out for the nostrils next time I watch! Gah they're so violent. Makes me want to smack them across the face and say "Shut up! Be nice! Yelling at these poor fat people isn't going to help!" teehee. and yes, i love your pun!

estar- well... star pressing buttons? it's gotta be there somewhere... lol. maybe google it when you get frustrated enough? As for the unintentionally spanish name... i feel like i saw it, knew it, and then... *shrugs* Very funny. Maybe you can also use it as a pun now! You know, Kit's spanish.... =)

Eric- Oh. My. Gosh. I. LOVE. ARTEMIS. FOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Therefore, you must endure my virtual *SQUEE* and *GLOMP.* ^_^ As for Inkheart... brilliant series. I must admit I absolutely hated the ending. Maybe when you get to the end of it, you can explain it to me. ... Heart problems, I've got them too. Lovely things, hm? I'm glad yours is better, though. And- getting braces off! Awesome! I remember when I got mine off I was convinced my teeth were huge, haha. You really should be wearing your retainer as often as possible, at least for the first year. I've had my braces off for... well, years now, and I take to my retainer now and again. Overnight it does fix my teeth, and although my gums may hurt a little, two nights every few months does help me, since it's been so many years since those horrible things came off. =)

              Inkslinger- Heehee. ^_^

As for my day.... okay, kk will totally love this. I spent the entire day in my Starfleet Uniform, along with my friend in HER Starfleet Uniform, and my other friend came over and took pictures of us, while we watched episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. And now I'm photoshopping the pictures. And OHMYGOD do they look AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And only two more days of waking up at an ungodly hour to walk the crazy dog. And then apparently we're getting a puppy this morning. As my dad kept saying the other day, I really do think I'm going to "hold his feet to the fire" on this one. Like.. come on. I don't do mornings. I'm sick(ish). Let me sleep! But noooo.....

Anyway, I think I've matched Eric's measure of rambling on now... off to photoshop more things! =D

              • I USED to love Artemis Fowl...until the 6th one came out. I mean, really? Brain fluid? Extinct lemurs? And plus Minerva disappeared, and I was counting on her. Although the ending was good.

I loooove the Supernaturals and The Wish List though...both by Eion Colfer. He's so FUNNY! I haven't read his newest one, which apparently is a sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I love that one too! 42!

I remember when our dog was a puppy....I had to watch her in the early morning because she was absolutely insane. Like, she'd run in circles until she fell over and would do somersaults three minutes later. One morning I fell asleep on the couch (it was 4:00 am- eek!) and woke up half a hour later to find that she had shredded a whole roll of double-sized paper towel into square-inch pieces...all over the nice rug. :P

                • Ye-ahh... the whole lemurs thing was pretty... strange. And stupid. And... yeah. But OMG did I cry when Root died. Poor Holly!!

The Wish List was pretty good... although you could tell he wrote that before Artemis Fowl, and was thinking about writing the series at the time. There could have been more to it... but it was still a pretty cute story. =)

Do you recommend the Supernaturals? I haven't had time to check that one out yet. And... a sequel to Hitchhikers? You do know that was written by Douglas Adams, right? How can Eoin Colfer do a sequel to a book that's not his? O_o

                  (42! Sorry for the inconvenience! ^_^ )

Wow. I totally meant to say "this weekend," not "morning." At any rate, I'm glad I only have one more day of this waking-up-at-six thing. I can't do this any more! I need good, uninterrupted sleep! I'm dying! Gah. SilveredBlue... your dog sounds like fun! Is she a lab? Cuz mine is... let me tell you... you never knew that everything is in fact edible until you get a lab...

Pure Randomness? So I'm still tired and not really typing right (I keep having to go back and correct mistakes), and I pressed a series of buttons, my computer sat & thought for a moment, and then a little box came up asking if I wanted to delete my recent browser history. I do not know how I did this, and since my computer's actually been running slowly lately, I hope it gets better... especially McAfee just told me it caught a trojan! AHHH!!! Needless to say I'm running a scan right now. Oops. O_O

*sigh* I don't waaaaaaaant to fold laaaaaaaaaundry........ or put it awayyyy........ I don't want to hang out with my friend who called, either, but if I don't hang out with him, I'll feel bad, and my dad's working from home AGAIN today, so I can't exactly sit and watch Star Trek, or lay in bed and play gameboy (yes, I've found it and gone totally retro). So... poop. We better be getting a puppy this weekend or I'm gonna be mad.

Shutting up now. Cuz there's sixteen billion things I could go on about. =)

                  • I'm excited, I'm planning a Glee marathon this weekend, since I'm borrowing the DVD from a friend. It'll be just my brother and I though, but it'll be fun. We have plenty of popcorn, since my brother is doing a science experiment on whether buttered popcorn or non buttered popcorn pops more kernels. (The answer is buttered) and a new couch down by the basement TV that we got for free from our neighbors who are moving. We used to have to sit on the floor, since my parents always take the good couches and the flat screen HDTV upstairs.

                    • Oh yeah, that was really sad.... I liked him.

As for the Hitchikers thing: Apparently Adam's widow gave the go-ahead for the publisher to hold a contest to write an official sequel. Remember when there was the post about DD's interview on, was it, BBC? (Peter Morwood has the greatest English accent...love it.)

So I started messing around there and found a Colfer interview (and a Prachett one! Squee!) and he was talking about that. It's called, "And Another Thing..."

The Supernaturals is pretty good- it's a sci-fi thing. Very different tone from A.F., but I enjoyed it.

How did you guess?? My dog is half Lab, half Golden Retreiver. She looks like a Lab but sheds like a Golden (we vacuum EVERY SINGLE DAY in the summer or are overrun by hair tumbleweeds). And she's totally neurotic. She's scared of every single large applience in the house. Vacuum, washer and drier, toilet, dishwasher, fridge, and even the OVEN. She slinks past these things when they're on with her tail down.

Oo, computer problems NOT good. I prefer Norton to McAfee because it scans automatically, like, every time I turn on my shiny new laptop. Which is good because I am very protective of my baby. Grrr.

Have you read any Garth Nix, Wolf? Somehow Nix and Colfer are linked in my mind...I don't know why.

Ooh, that reminds me of a funny story. When I was reading A.F. #1, (at 11 years old) I got totally confused because I thought it was very futuristic. Why? Because it mentioned skimmers, and I thought that was a minature hovercraft.

                      • Hmm... interesting... I may just have to look into that! My two friends and I have so many inside jokes because of Douglas Adams. =D

Hmm... just looked up the Eoin Colfer book... looks... well, I'm not sure the story seems too strong, but I do love Colfer =)

OHMYGOD NEW ARTY BOOK. *PRE-ORDERS* Haha and I meant to check out the Hitchhikers thoughts.. boo. dinnertime.

                        *breaks post for dinner*
Okay, split pea soup wasn't too terrible... I think I'm going to finish the milano cookies, though.

I did used to use Nortons*, but it messed up my computer. >_<

Garth Nix sounds really familiar. Name me some titles??

                        Teehee. Skimmers. =P

*I use McAfee NOW, because Norton's made my computer kinda blow up

...you just made my day, Wolfie. *hugs* The Atlantis Complex...hmm...what could it mean?

Garth Nix: Keys to the Kingdom series (Mister Monday, etc), Sabriel, Lireal, Abhorsen, Shade's Children, The Ragwitch. I think that's all...

Randomly: did anyone (who likes Diana Wynne Jones) know there's a new Chrestomanci book coming? In April.

OH!! There's a new Thief book! I love Megan Whaler Turner! Yay! The King of Attolia was the best court-intruigue book I've ever read! Woohoo!

...I love Amazon. Even if they charged $80 for one of those little hamster toys I was planning on buying for0a Xmas gift when the store price was $6.

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday! Mine was pretty good, I was glad to be done with my classes. I didn't get much a break though, I work full time, but it was nice to not have to worry about homework.

I LOVE Garth Nix! The Abhorson Trilogy is one of my all time favorite fantasy book series.

For those of you who enjoy historical fiction, has anyone read "The Book Thief"? It's really popular right now, so I was reluctant to read it. (I usually don't care for the "popular" books.) But it was fantastic. Best book I read this year. Uh... Last year I guess. lol.

Yeah I thought #6 was the last, too, at least for like 5 or 8 years or so- Colfer said he was taking a break. But, whooo!!!! Hopefully this will be better than the last book... I am still shaking my head and agreeing with you on the whole extinct lemurs comment. O_o

Randomness.... watching Fringe... Leonard Nimoy is guest starring... =D
Is Fringe really aiming to be the next X-Files? It seems like it.

                              • Somebody a page or two ago mentioned braces, I noticed while skimming. My favorite (or least favorite) topic ever. I have really messed up teeth, or rather I did, before the first two rounds of braces straightened them all out. I also happen to be missing 3 of my adult teeth; they just never grew in once the baby teeth fell out. So. One of those missing teeth is in the front right of my top teeth, and so I was going to get a fake tooth implanted there...only my orthodontist didn't leave enough space between the roots of the teeth on either side of it, so I had to get braces last January. For the third time.

Why am I bringing this up? Well, although I still have the braces on...there's finally enough space for the post that the fake tooth is attached to to be implanted in my mouth. Actually, that's not fair, since it already is implanted; I had the surgery on Tuesday. So soon enough I'll get these ridiculous braces off, have a nice shiny white fake tooth that nobody will be able to tell is fake, and it will all be good. As a result, I am ecstatic right now. Plus, while I was still drugged up from the surgery (they had to put me to sleep to do it), I told my orthodontist that his shirt was the color of macaroni and cheese, and that it made his tan (he has an obviously fake tan all year round) look even oranger than usual. I am a very fun person when I've been sedated for surgery, obviously.

So I'm happy right now, although I can't eat solid foods yet. Oh well!

I go back to college in a few days, and I'm actually excited to, because today I got an email saying that they wanted me to come in for an interview for an on-campus job I applied for. I applied to be a tour guide, since it's one of the few jobs on campus that students can have without having work study (I don't have work-study, which limits the jobs I can apply for.) I'd really like to be able to earn a little bit of money this semester, so I can save it for my trip to Scotland next fall. And possibly be able to afford AWOM when it comes out. Plus, both of my roommates have on-campus jobs, and it makes me feel lazy knowing that they both have jobs to do, along with doing homework.

Has anybody read any Terry Pratchett? I was told to try some of his books, and know he's been mentioned here before, but my friend was unsure which one I should start with...ehn. I'll go ask over in the books thread, that'd make more sense.

Beatles Rock Band. I am absolutely obsessed with this game, and it is slightly sad. But...it's fun! And unlike normal Rock Band, I actually have heard all the Beatles songs. I'm allowed to be dorky about this, it is so much fun!

Edit: Wolf: yep, Garth Brooks is the country singer. Garth Nix is an author, although I don't believe I've read any of his books. My best friend has though, and she really liked them.
