I miss all you people who were the most active ones ~4 years ago. It seems like the group here has been changing enough that while I read all (interesting) posts, I don't really identify with the community nearly as much. TOGR seeming to be dying probably doesn't help. But the forums does that, with going in phases with the publishing of the books.

I don't have much to really say here though. No real life updates. Continuing to be an unemployed recent college graduate. Tired of dealing with health issues. But Hi people. I'm still reading. And still like this forum even if it feels like the people I identify with are moving on, but probably also lurking.

I did get a great reference to AWoM in the last session of the mage game I'm in. When I have a friend in that game with a Mac named Spot. Then I found out she's yet to even read W@W because of having too much other stuff to do. Poor person. I've offered to loan her the books.
We will remember you PM. And your little GingerBear.

    • I've been meaning to post on here for a loooooooooooong time, but just never seem to get around to it....I've been a major lurker recently, mostly because of time....*sigh* I never have ANY time BUT I just finished the play I'm in, and I'm not really doing anything in April much....so I might be back! Oliver was lots of fun, though =D And I've gotten like 3 different people to read the books!!! yay! One sorta picked it up on her own, but I definitely encouraged her! I've been trying to get my other friend to read it for almost two years...and one day, she just picked up the first book, which I was reading, and said "hey, this looks interesting...can I borrow it?" I might have possibly been grinning like a maniac ;D She's on A Wizard Abroad.....yay!

I remember when it used to be crazy busy on here =D It feels like such a long time ago.... and now the forums is mostly echoey and empty
..... echoey and empty.....echoey and empty.......

All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they really happened. And after you are finished reading one you feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you: the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse, and the sorrow, the people and the places, and how the weather was.

      • yeah the internet is an amazing place, i've met a surprisingly large number of people from here haha. i still wanna help facilitate a "Great YW Get Together" someday, so we can get like a ton of the old regular cedric crowd and chill and talk or whatnot for a couple days. it would be fun. I would be here more but like, forum post based discussion is slow and facebook/ normal instant messenger are easier. I sometimes wonder if we could petition DD to re-open a chat seeing as how its been so long now. maybe she'll give it another go. it'd be nice to have a lurking place for several days on end again XD or take bets on how many times chat'll kick alla (i think that was her we were taking bets on) in an hour some more haha XD it'd be nice to bring some life back to this board, since i'm sure we'd all post more if we had a reason to be on 28 hours of the day.

        • This place does still get a bit busy just after a new book's published, but it doesn't have the interactivity the old chat seems to have provided (not that I remember much of that, I didn't visit often back then). Also, the way the Internet goes, folks almost inevitably scatter somewhat as time goes on and new places open.

          • Lazy Leopard and I met in person last summer -- he has some epic choices of clothing, I can tell you that.

I guess I don't tend to reply to the TOGR very much unless I'm actually replying to someone... I've been pretty tired and busy inbetween the tired, so, yeah. That and a very close friend of mine died a couple of weeks ago, so grieving for her and trying to straighten out her online things so her mom has a backup. She was only my age (25).
Las Vegas Boulevard is jammed, and I'm in love...

            • *tries to remember what he was wearing at DWCon* Hmmm... I'm guessing the waistcoats might have been eye catching... DD tweeted a piccie of me at some point back then, but I've no idea how to find it now...

Tralia, sorry to hear about your friend.

              • I'm sorry about your friend, Trialia

I've been thinking about death for a while, and especially because recently a friend of mine found out that her father's office is going to be conducting a test on a lamb, which will then be killed. I had to struggle not to cry, and my friend said she had wanted so badly to just sabotage the whole thing (she knew how) but couldn't and wouldn't.

Is it better to sabotage the one experiment or to let the lamb die? Is this the "For the Greater Good" situation again? It's come up so much; some in negative format and some in positive. Take Spock's "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few/one." Contrast that and his heroic sacrifice with Grindelwald and Dumbledore's "For the Greater Good" or even Hitler (and by the way, I'm not comparing the death of one life to a psychopath killing millions - that would be way out of proportion; I'm just drawing connections.) Self-preservation is a strong instinct - a hero would be willing to sacrifice her/himself to save others; but the lamb has no choice but to do so.

To me, a life is a life is a life . . . whether a human's, or a sheep's. That's part of why it bothers me so much to see this young creature forced against its will - possibly beyond its realm of thought - to make a sacrifice for a species it may or may not have any reason to care about.

                • *splutter* Tuttle, Dee, Mythbusterfan! I remember all of you! I was kind of a newbie when I remember seeing you around a lot.

And I remember a while ago a lot of people had wanted to have a YW get together in NY, and try to get onto the helipad at the Metlife building. And hug the asteroid in the museum. A YW meetup would still be fun!

I miss the chat, too. I was only on a tiny tiny amount before I remember it getting taken away, but it was fun the few times I was on. And yeesh, I used to check the boards every five minutes back then - now it's all so quiet.

What happened to Young Reader/Dragon Writer? He came back a while ago, but I guess he disappeared/is lurking again. Heh, like me. I've been lurking for way too long now. I need to start posting again.

Trialia: *tacklehugs you* So sorry about your friend

LifeSong: I don't know... It may depend upon the test, and what it would accomplish.

                    • Obviously life has caused me to fall away from one of my favorite places to spend time... I've been re-reading TVTQ and it caused me to look at Facebook and see a post from DD about cat food.... which reminded me I needed to look up the forums... Sorry I've been gone so long...

I've just started re-reading OHMWS (aka TVTQ), having given TBoNwM a re-read recently. All tripped off by finishing TBM. I discovered that, for some strange reason, TBoNwM was the very first of DD's books I ever read...

In the "Latest Posts" section at on the forum front page, if you click on the little triangle after the poster's name you'll be taken to that post. Not quite what you're after, but...

You have to be logged in. But if you click on the "What's New?" tab at the top, it'll list all the topics/threads that have new posts since you were last on the board. Next to each topic title, you'll see a little circular icon: . Clicking on that will get you to the first new post in the thread.
New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

                              • Oh, okay then. At other forums I have a habit of clicking on a board and then clicking on a link to show me the newest posts of a thread. I'm not really used to other ways of getting to the newest posts I guess and I'm not really familiar with this forum software. :P

                                Thanks for the help.
