  • Anne McCaffrey is a great author. I love her books. I hardly got any sleep last night. I went to be about midnight, but I woke up around four in the morning. I fell asleep again around five, then woke up at six. I read for about two hours, then I fell asleep again for an hour. I don't feel tired though.

    • rofl. You're weird Fox, but in a good way. My great grandpa lived above a pub and when he moved to Canada he told everyone he had lived in a castle. He told ghost stories on the radio and my mom says I get my weird sense of humor and oddness from him.

      • Bowling for Columbine is a movie by Michael Moore, the guy who made Farehnheit 911. BTW, I'm not on AIM 'cause I'm at my grandma's house and she is VERY protective about her computer. She doesn't even have MSN.

            I say hi to everyone and have a nice day and not to post too much!

            And while I'm posting to ToGR anyway:
            M: I think Michael Moore did at least one before that, one about a town that had just one company, and then that company closed down its plant there. "Roger and me" might be the title.

            • I'm bored. I'm waiting for TOP to come over so we can go swimming. ACK! Annoying person signed onto IM. Better block her before she says anything. Too late. Now I have to talk to her. Evil person. I want to go do something, but I have nothing to do! I could go read, but I'm happier here. That sounded odd...

              • I've seen 'Bwowling for Columbine', and one above all else completly shocked me - the number of gun realted deaths. Here in the UK, in 1999 (th elats year I could find figures), there were precisely 49 gun realted deaths. We are not just talking murders here - we are including suicides, accidents - if someone died because of a gun, they are in that 49. This works out at slightly less than one gun realted death per million people. The USA has a population of aournd 300 million, so would expect around 300 gun-realted deaths.

                In 2001 there were 29,573

                This is about ONE HUNDRED TIMES the rate in the UK...

                If you think this is just down to more people owning a gun in the USA, think again. In the UK 4% own a firearm, in the USA it's 41%. That's only ten times as many.

                Whenevr I've raised this issue before, people always mention the US Consitution (to which I say, go and read it *properly*), and that if you restirct gun ownersip, "you criminalise ordinary people". No... you criminalise people who can't use guns responsibly. Handguns owned by people are more liekly to kill a family member than a burgler...

                </rant>

                My uncle used to be in the police force. In any UK police force, there is a section called the Armed Responce Unit (ARU), which deal with situations where policemen with guns are needed. (Policemen here do not carry guns by default). To prevent possible car-jckings, members of the ARu travel unarmed in a normal police car, whilst an unmarked car travels seperately containg the armory locked securly in the boot (trunk), for which the driverof that car doesn't have means of unlcoking. The armory car was a standard family car.
                Anyway, my uncle told me of one time when some joyrider broke into this car whilst parked on the way back from a job, and made off with it. The joyrider was somewhat surprised to find half the police in the county pursueing him for what he thought was an insignificant family car...
