• I loved The Outsiders. Might've been the first book I cried reading. It was sad. But good. Fire Bringer was sad too. Poor Rannoch. But I didn't cry for that.

Okay, Boomer. Pick one of db's books, then give him one.

• Ok I choose His Dark Materials. As for you, db, try Stephen King's book called The Stand or Geen Mile by the same author. They're both really good. Oh and who is the author of His Dark Materials?

• Philip Pullman wrote His Dark Materials. the first book is called the Golden Compass, I think. It's a series of three books. The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass. Does that help?

• I should point out that The Golden Compass only has that namein the USA. In the UK (and Ithink elsewhere), itis called The Northern Lights. I've read it, but neither of the other two.

• Ok I know the books well but I'm not sure if I want to tell you anything about them cause then you will lose the joy of finding it out for yourself. I don't want to be the person that ruins it for the rest of you but I do have to say that DD's Stealing the elfs-king roses and her 'Tale of the five' series is very good (Don't know if you have already talked about them). And I know this is off topic but one of my friends has just introduced me to graphic novels (Fathom by Micheal Turner) and I was wondering if any 'Young Wizard Novels' had been made into graphic novels

• I read the Golden Compass without knowing anything about it and I stopped reading it and didn't pick it up again for 2 years.... Then I read the second and then I read the third and then I decided to finally finish the first....... I don't think I told you guys that but it's kinda embarrasing.... But I started Golden Compass when I was like... 8 or something... I thought Pan was confusing, I was confused by the simplest things when I was 8.... *laugh*

• I might later, my friends want me to read it. But I've got,
The No. Ladies Detective Agency (Kat)
Snow in August (meteorite)
The Nine Princes in Amber (meteorite)
The Amazing Maurice and his educated rodents (Gryphon)
I've only got Snow in August and the others I've put on hold, but they are still checked out, they aren't on the holdshelf yet...

And my guess is that I won't be able to find Princess Diaries at the library, everyone is reading it now that the new book came out.

Thanks, meteorite. So...now I need another....I've read The Golden Compass, but stopped there. The Subtle Knife is next, right? H'mmm. Maybe I'll read that.

• Hi all
Calliope you are right 'the subtle knife' is next but you want to carry on reading them cause 'the amber spyglass' is the next one and I think it's the best of the three!! I'm a bloke and I felt really sad when I read that book, I'm sure theres a few people that even cryed but he is continuing the series now with a very small book called 'Lyra's oxford' (I think its surpose to be a 'joining' book to join the last triolgy with what ever new book he is writing now!) which I thought was rubbish and not worth the money I paid for it but I bought it anyway to continue my collection of the series. Anyway I've bored you all to much now so I'm off to bid on ebay
