Has anyone noticed how hude this topic has grown? Massive, and all we do is swap books! I dunno about you, but I rarely go into huge topics that I don't know what's going on. Or at least that's how I was as a N00B. I'm worried that that will be other N00B's aproach to this topic. Ah well.
Cool. The quote think hacks off the sig now. That's handy. Anyway.

I think it'd be fine if the newbies came in here and traded books. The more the better, I think.

I know! I want them to, just I'm worried that they might not visit this board because it's so huge.

Wait, what trades am I in?

Agent M To Visit the Queen ~ Gryphon Crusader
      Diane Duane ~ Edward Bloor

Skitty Pit Dragon Trilogy ~ Ella Enchantress from the Stars
      Jane Yolan ~ ???

Skitty Amazing Maurice and the Educated Rodents ~ Sam The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy)

Just three? Okay, I want someone to read Tithe. Dunno who it's by.

I have managed to cockaroach Angels and Demons from the library where I work (I have executive privileges) and am reading it over this weekend. I am still waiting on The Art of Seduction. Anyone who wants a book may nab one of the ones I suggested, The Killer Angels or Snow in August. For people of a more serious bent with an open mind towards philosophy, I also suggest Why People Believe Weird Things, by Michael Shermer. It talks about things like cults, urban legends, rumors, and some of the odder offshoots of mainstream Christianity, how they get started, and why they stick around. Be aware, though, that it may act on your mindset like a shot of Force 10 hot sauce -- some people like it, others want to hunt down the person who inflicted it on them and HURT them...

p.s. Andre Norton also wrote a book called Enchantress from the Stars.

Skitty: I think the one you are talking about is:
Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, by Holly Black.

Also, the T. A. Barron one that you keep saying is "too new," The Ancient One, is actually just a new reprint of a book originally published in 1992; it might be possible to find it if you keep that in mind.

Zgirl: You keep saying that "The Princess Diaries" is "not for boys." Is that because there are ideas in it that you don't want boys to find out about ("If they learn our secrets, we'll no longer have them in our power." *evil laugh*), or because you think that the story is so girly that boys wouldn't "get it"? It seems to me that the point of this book swap idea is to get people to read things they don't think they would like, because they might find out that they actually do like them. Maybe instead of telling boys, "You wouldn't like this," you should say, "Try this, see what you think." You might be surprised; the boys might learn stuff we're normally too clueless to pick up on.

I haven't read "The Princess Diaries" yet (I laughed when several people talked about having three or four books already on their to-be-read list; mine's currently at 153, and there are a couple I haven't gotten around to writing down[granted, some of that is "re-read books 1, 2, & 3 in the series so I'll remember what's going on when I read the newly released book 4"]), but I did see and like the movie. I saw the movie version of "Timeline," too, and it's out on VHS/DVD if you want to "cheat."
"Is the glass half full or empty, I ask her as I fill it; she said it doesn't really matter, pretty soon you're bound to spill it" Indigo Girls

Yeah Tithe is by Holly Black, I'm currently reading that, my library has been closed all week to "Train new Staff" *hisses at the staff*

I never read the first PD book. I just skipped it and went straight to the 2nd. I didn't find it confusing to read so I kept going. But they are supposed to be making another movie. I hope that one isn't too far off from the books again.

Why do I have to keep telling people I'm OK? Oh, because they aren't sure I am... then why do I have to keep telling me??

ZGirl, thanks!! Princess Diaries was a really fun read. I had a great time. (I was lucky, my local library had it). Very smart and funny, and I have a decided weakness for diary/letter-form books and pop-culture references. And it's really a shame that the Disney guys hadn't kept closer to the book when they made the movie.

Kli6 I haven't gotten your book yet. But I'm going to the library this afternoon. If you really liked that book there it is a series. Princess Diaries 2,3,4, and now 5. Four and five are in hardcover still, number 3 is hard to find in paperback, but the rest are in paperback.
Jaru, Boys don't usually read Princess Diaries because of the cover, (Pink with a silver crown on a pillow,) and because even though it's not that girly, it's girly in a geeky way. (If you read the book you'll know what I'm talking about!) It's a lot different from the movie too. My friend likes to tease me by giving the books I read to boys in our class. It's so embarassing she flips to the worst parts like in the 3rd book there's a guide to kissing. (SUPeR funny!) He read that and was like soooo this is what you read. I was really mad at her.

Oh well, I've got 3 books from the library, finally cleared up my fines. And I got a Pratchett book, you guys convinced me.

                      • Executive library privilages, lucky. I still need to get The Eyre Affair. If it was up to me I'd be reading it already, but I have a problem called 'parents'. I thought of another good book: Fried Green Tomatoes by Fannie Flagg. Forgot about it before because it's a bit out of my fantasy range, but it's a great read, funny and sad in all the right places.

I still have a few Battle of the Books books to read, too...forgot about those...

                        • Z, I know what you mean. When I was reading the A-List my friends did that. Like turning to certain pages... and showing all my guy friends, they didn't talk to me for 2 days afraid that I was weirder than they thought. But when I finally finished it they talked to me agian.

                          • You read A-list?! One of my friends said that's the grossest book. Refering to what it's about. Yeah I could imagine people talking about that book. Hey Sam do you know any good non-a-list like books that are still in the teen section. Thanx.

                            • ...a guide to kissing...

You don't really NEED one... I always found them incredibly funny... Actually, maybe you DO need one, after all... what do you do with your nose? heh.

Well, there was this book from Cosmo (it was in the library... heh), and it was something about finding and keeping Mr. Right... And I started flipping through it skeptically, and I found

"Rule 14: Leave him if he doesn't get you romantic presents for Christmas and your birthday."

Then I started trying to stifle my laughter and ran to my friend. She laughed too, and I was kinda like "So this means I should leave A-kun? AFter all, he didn't GIVE me a birthday present, and for Christmas I got a feather he found in BC and homemade chocolate, and for Valentine's day, we made cookies...." and yeah... it was funny.

Then I realized that the whole thing was really a trap set by the librarian, who figured out that I'm a hopeless romantic...

I've finished 3 of my books out of four. Ugh, it's taken me 3 days to do that, I'm getting slow in my old age... But now I'm on "The Wee Free Men" the Terry Pratchett book. I know that a lot of you guys like him so I decided to try him. Hope I like it!
