Well, I know there that at least the Santa Claus myth is based on fact. See here for more information. I'm not too sure about the other two. It would be an interesting thing to research - and something that I don't have the time to do right now....along with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.
...
I think that if we are going to start debating this (fun as it would be), people please don't take anything that is said as a personal statement against beliefs and such.
Gigo, who is posting one liners? Cos if it was gryph up towards the top of the page. That was nearly a year ago XD...

Well, people are always accusing me of having ESP, because I often answer their questions before they ask them...
I do believe that magic is real, and I have several theories on how it works, but I keep them to myself because my rational mind tells me that there is no way that it could be true.
But then, something tells me that my mind is wrong...

Alla, that in fact supports my point. The Santa myth was based on a real person. He did not live on the North Pole with a factory of elvish toymakers, did not have a sleigh drawn by flying reindeer, did not slide down chimneys to deliver gifts, did not go to every child's house all on one night, etc. The man the myth was based on was a philanthropist, period. Everything else was made up.Well, I know there that at least the Santa Claus myth is based on fact.
Of course myths are based on something. However, the myths and legends that we read today are incredibly different even from earlier forms of the same stories, to say nothing of the original person/people/event that they were based on. If every myth had to be real at some point in order to become a myth, those other "facts" about Santa would also have had to have been true, too.

I have to say in the typical sense I don't think magic exists... However, as people have stated things can seem magical, such as a book, a sunset, or a song.
However, lately, actually I guess its been happening my entire life (just not in such a concentration) I have been having these wierd gut feelings that something is going to happen, and usually a specific feeling like that I'm going to be bumped to first class, or a concert is going to be cancelled. They all prove to be right. Its nothing I can control and I don't really know how to explain it... Usually I would just chalk it up to coincidence but this many? I still don't think it has to do with magic, but is there something more to the human psyche that explains this expanded awareness?

I don't believe in magic...the coincidences that you're talking about seem to be just that: coincidences. And if they're not...maybe there IS such a thing as fate...but not magic. Maybe they both exist. Maybe neither, which is how I'm generally inclined to view the world.
If you're around a friend a lot, you can anticipate their questions, reactions, &c...finish sentances sometimes, or say something in unison. I've had conversations where I've stopped talking, and the other person backs up my point with the argument I would have mentioned if I had kept talking. Good friends, or people with similar mindsets. Coincidences...I'm crying cuz things aren't how
they used to be

I think there is such a thing as magic. the only thing is that if one doesn't believe in it, or doubts it even a bit is blind to it. magic can be anything that you want it to be.
To answer the original question, magic is real. But it has so many shapes and forms that sometimes, or most of the time, people don't realize it. magic could be love, or talking to your cat (i do that all the time) or it could even be stuff like changing the weather or making a car stop.
Some strange "coincidences": When I want the weather to change, I go outside and think about how I want it to be and I say a few words in a "made-up" language. It Kind of is made up and kinda not. I say whatever sounds and letters come to me. I can't really tell (neither can most people) weither it's coming from myself or another place. Another strange happening it that I find myself strange and I think that I'm somehow a cat. Or I was supposed to be. Well, anyway, one night, I think it was about 3 or 4 months ago, I was going to go upstairs for some water or something and my sis walked out of her room. It's pitch dark downstairs at night so we didn't see eachother. when she looked my way, she totally freaked out and claimed that my eyes glowed like a cat's. of course I didn't be lieve her, and we didn't tell anyone, but then at camp, about a week ago, a cabin-mate said the same thing. it was weird, but i finally gave in and told them about my catlike tendencies. One morning I woke up, licked my hand and rubbed it on the side of my face. When I realized what I was doing, I was kinda freaked out, but I ignored it and got up to take a shower. Another weird thing is that i talk to cats. I meow at them, and they meow back and I use my senses to tell what they're saying. I have a general idea, but of course not exact words.
Well, anyway those are some things that have happened to me. You don't have to think it's true, but at least I know it is. I think magic is real. From your friendly neighborhood wizard, Poliester.

I do believe in magic, but not in the YW way. I agree with a lot of people here that magic is everywhere. it is a sunset, a man on the street who knows that hes poor, but still finds something to give to charities, love (scuse the fluffy-ness), friendship in the weirdest places and times, and when someone runs out of a building to answer her cellphone and the building collapses 5 minutes later. magic is everywhere; you just have to know where to look!

Sometimes magic is fun to write, roleplay, and read about, but otherwise... I don't beleive in it.
There aren't any Poot references anymore.
Poor little guy. Are all the newbies flooding out old traditions?
I used to be able to do that with a friend I had before I moved.Ankaa:

I talk to my cats, but it's more like, "hey Cassie," or whatever. If you talk to your cats a lot, they'll meow back to you; they don't do this to other cats unless it's a show of agression... which wouldn't be meowing; it's hissing and growling. Also, I can really tell how some of my cats are feeling and are going to react by their behavior. I'm around them a lot. If Sparkle's eyes are looking more than a little stormy and her tail is twitching, she's mad, and she'll take revenge one way or another. If Canyon is slinking and acting like a freak, she'll bolt if you touch her.Gigo: Hey, it's the person who puts 'asian' in 'caucasian'. detail is always welcomedI definitely think magic is real. I don't have to time to go into things right now, unfortunately...
I'm always despartely wishing YW magic is real but HP type magic? not so much
Though the rational mind says that kind of magic, not the 'this is magical' kind. doesn't exist..

When my computer is being slow, I tell it that if it doesn`t speed up by the time I`m back from the kitchen, I`ll restart it. It mostly speeds up by the time I get back. Mostly. And it`s always annoying me when I try to run two things that use flash at the same time. Or the chatroom and any game. *glares at computer*"Accomplishing the impossible means only the boss will add it to your regular duties." - Anonymous

even slow down the death of the Universe."
So in one sense, if you say something to a car, say, and it reacts, then that's Wizardry as according to SYWTBAW. But it can also be used in convincing another person something, right? Being persuasive and changing someone's mind about something.
I believe that Wizardry does exist if you look at it this way. There are also complications to my beliefs, but, hey, that's basically it.
On the other hand, waving a wand and getting stuff to happen? I just have a hard time believing it. That bends physical laws where convincing things doesn't. Or... something.Hidden Sanctuary... http://www.avidgamers.com/hisa

No, if your thinking of the supernatrual controlled by a mortal; but everything is real in the realm of imagination.
Then theres Qi(Ki,Chi(Japanese pronunciation)) which is a bending of the physical energy with the power of the mind allowing you to defend yourself with power you normaly couldn't access; sometimes it's just called an adrenalin rush.LyraBlade Tech
