Im sorry about the quote thing. I tried to put it into my original post but it kind of posted automaticaly. How do you have a permanent quote as well? I want to know how to post my favorite quote " each day we die a little more" Strongsad from www.homestarrunner.com. How old are you Gryphon? Sometimes I feel as if you are 22, while other times I feel you are 14. I am curious, but you do not have to tell me. I also looked at your role playing sight. Verry neat! I read the guide lines and rules, but it did not load the " apply for membership" thing. Does this happen often? Or is it my Computer? In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

Permanent quote with... oh! You mean a signature, don't you? At first I thought you meant the quoties.
You can go to your profile by lcicking Go (it's by a little compass button towards the top), my space, and then my profile. At the top of that bit, you can click Edit Profile. There, you can change your avatar (icon/picture/etc), your signature, and a lot of other things.
Naw, I don't say my age age online, but I guess I do jump between 'ages' a little. When I first joined here, I wrote like I was younger than my age, or it felt like that to me, but then, with a lot of roleplaying and joining in discussions here... it does wonders for you, a lot more than what you'd ever get out of school. You're writing with people younger and older than you, and people who can write better and worse than you, so you can compare yourself a little. It helps people see how to make theirselves write better.
Plus, I'm always being nagged by buddy pm [Peter Murray's nicknames are pm and 'pops'] over here for spelling.
That's something I like.
I don't know what's happening with the application form, but I'll look at it. I did try to edit it earlier, and maybe I changed a bit of it I didn't mean to. Thanks for reading the rules, but the guidelines were for admins. at VGDawn. It tells you how to post on the Current panel, and that's the rectangle on the right below the login box. I'll give you a few admin. powers if you want.
The Apply for membership is working fine for me, and no, it doesn't happen often. It could be that it just wouldn't load. By the way, you need to include your e-mail address or it won't send you your password. Some people don't like giving out their e-mail address because they're afraid of spam. Avidgamers, which is what VGDawn is hosted on, doesn't send spam. You'll only get an e-mail when you've been accepted.Gigo: Hey, it's the person who puts 'asian' in 'caucasian'. Gryphon, I'm pretty sure I have said this before, or possibly ranted it in capital letters, but Dr. Who is NOT lame. Dr. Who is one of the best sci-fi t.v programmes ever made. You should watch some it. I reconmend City of Death by Douglas Adams, one of the Tom Baker (fourth Doctor) stories. Please give it a go, it really is great.
Tui - I know you wrote that a while back, but not everybody whoe likes Dr. Who is old!
Just to make sure no-one makes this mistake again, but the Doctor's name is Doctor, the shows title is Dr. Who. Many people makes that mistake.

Quite right, Kat. I withdraw that *cough.*
But MOST people who like it are, in the same way that most people who like Simon and Garfunkel are old. It's not a bad thing, or anything, it's just representative.
Since we're talking about spelling, I just read a rant in Regina's Song about the way in which people don't use prepositions where they're technically needed, and it make me feel extremely guilty.
No more "graduate high school"s for me.
And Gryphon. Is that a BURNING POOT in that picture up there?Go ahead! Panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!

The only problem with that one is that it may seem familiar if you've read "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". Douglas Adams/David Agnew reused the plots of "City of Death" and "Shada" (which was never completed due to a strike) as the basis for the first Dirk Gently book.Originally posted by Kat^H^H^H Earwen:

Anyone who watched Doctor Who since it started (not me - too much moving between countries) is going to be relatively old, as it started in 1963.

it never sturck me as more than a helpful wizard. but, i like, ankaa, am just an american. and we segregate our sci-fi/fantasy from all the rest of literature. mabye that's waht's wrong with us...

You'd've (Anne McCaffery used double contraptions, and that'll justify mine!) needed to know a little bit about Doctor Who to catch that, and maybe a little bit about DD's own in-jokes. Pshau, can't help being an American. I'd sing American Idiot (well, type, but nevermind) for you, only it's kinda hard with linkin park playing at the moment.
We have book books, sci-fi books, and nonfiction books. Yep, it's divided too much. We have the complete freaks (I mean, c'mon, who reads nonfiction only?), the 'everyone', the 'outsiders' (*grumble grumble -- that's us fantasy/scifi people), and the floaters.Gigo: Hey, it's the person who puts 'asian' in 'caucasian'. *raises eyebrows* we have book-books ("adult fiction"), smart-books ("literature and peotry") true-books (adult's non-fiction), geek-books ("sci fi/fantasy"), murder-books ("crime and historical fiction." I've always been amused by that.) kiddy-books ("picture books", or something), children's books, teen-books ("Young Adult Fiction"), and then all the different aforementioned categories for YA AND for Children. (except for crime/murder.)
Now that's segregation. Plus of course there's good old Dewey. *shrug* I'm comfortable with segregation, myself- it makes me feel all home-like to be able to go to one corner and see Pratchett and Gaiman and Card and Gibson and Stephenson and McCaffrey and Furey and all that stuff (and, of course, Duane) in one place.

yeah, but people will look at you wierd and shun you (at least in my town) if you spend too much time in the sci-fi/ fantasy section.
but i must admit that it IS nice to have all my faves in one place... until you start to get non-fantasy faves too.

Double contractions make everything easier. When I write them I use them when a character's talking. Most people don't say, "you shouldn't have..." or "you should not have" ::shudder::, they say "should'n't've." it...flows. and if people talk that way in real life, why not let them talk how they please in fiction?I'm crying cuz things aren't how
they used to be

When they're both? A ton of murder mysteries these days are also period/historical. I mean, just think, there's Robert van Gulik's Judge Dee, Elizabeth Peters's Amelia Peabody, Laurie King's Russell/Holmes, Lindsey Davis's Falco, Ellis Peters's Cadfael, Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen, Karen Harper's Elizabeth I, etc. etc. etc.
But yeah, it doesn't make much sense to me, either. Most historical fiction I've seen (if it isn't murder mystery) generally winds up in general fiction/literature, like Patrick O'Brian and Dorothy Dunnett, etc.
I dunno. The section a book is shelved in seems to have less to do with the book than it does with the store's idea of how to sell things. But as long as I can find what I'm looking for, it's ok with me. Me, I hop from non-fiction to mystery, sf/f, general fiction, YA, graphic novels, and back again.New to the board?
