  • Emi: Runic, like, Futhark. It's pretty fun, and it makes school more interesting. I was already known for being a weirdo anyways, it doesn't really change anything. And get well soon...again!

I am miserable with allergies...Ugghh! Not fair! I tried doing my Irish language PC program today, but it kept saying I was pronouncing it wrong, because I sounded horrible because of the allergies.

Last night I was at a friend's house, and we were discussing Twilight, when this guy named Jake heard us say "Team Jacob" or something about a song that was written about Jacob Black. He said, "Hey, don't be mean, I think Jacob is AWESOME! And his song, is probably more awesome than that..."

He hadn't read Twilight, not even once. He was just being an idiot.

Then my friend's little 5-or-6-year-old sister showed up, and generally attacked him, digging her very sharp fingernails into his arm. He collapsed on the ground, in pain.

A minute or so later, he stood up, and held the little girl's hands, in awe, saying, "My gosh, how did you do that? That was amazing!"

He looked kind of dazzled, really, it was kinda awkward...He looked at her fingernails, and asked her to show him how to make his fingernails that sharp.

My friends and I were chuckling, and looking after the two of them. "I think Jacob's in love," one girl commented wryly. "Maybe," I agreed, then laughing, "Maybe Jacob imprinted on her!"

Then we laughed for about a half an hour, before we all had to leave. It was funny though...

I have to go read a chapter on thermodynamics for science...wait, did I say 'have to?' I mean that I get to! I love thermodynamics...I'm learning about Entropy again...it's fascinating...I think I'll go reread a YW book after I read the chapter...*happy sigh*

    • Well, yesterday was yet another hectic monday. I don't really have anything to say, nothing exciting has happened to me recently, so I think this will be a pretty short message.

Emi: I spell some words "British" style quite a lot. Like "Grey" opposed to "Gray" Probably because I read so many books by British authors. Of course, I also read a lot of books by authors from other places, like New Zealand... Not to mention all the thousands of books I've read by people from the United States.

kk: That sounds cool, I go to a homeschool group, but we don't do anything like that. Basically, my mom and some other kids/teens parents talk about stuff (like their kids. I hate it when my mom talks about me), and I normally just go hang out by myself. They're aren't really any kids my age, except this one boy... Who I kinda like, but he seems like such a jerk (and he's a jerk to everyone, not just me) I've given up one him. And of course, the two friends I had there went to Poland, and then to Spain, for the year, and on top of that, their dad took their only computer to Mexico for something to do with his work or something, so I can't chat with them online. Sometimes I follow around my sister and her friends just to bug them, but it's quite boring. So yeah... that's the homeschool group I go to. My mom and dad had wanted to start something like you've got, kk, but it never happened. Phooey.

Daisy: Yeah. It sometimes makes me nervous when people ask me about school, I try to avoid that topic of conversation too. People ask me what grade I'm in and I say "Well, ...I'm 14, so... I'd be in 8th grade. I think." I'm not exactly good at coming up with things to say on the spot. LOL But after I say something lame I can always think of something better to say. (LOL again).

It appears this post is longer then I thought it would be! Hurrah!
This is now officially my signature. I can't think of anything else... Ooh! How about "A dog ate my sig!"? XD Or is that just lame? "XD yet again"... I like that. XD !!!

      • And now for something COMPLETELY OT....

Does anyone have any idea where to get Guinness Marmite outside of the UK? If you don't live in the UK, the stuff is apparently either a biohazard and accordingly controlled, or going for hundreds of pounds per pot, not including shipping. I'm curious but not THAT curious. I was very disappointed with my excursion on ebay.

        • I know this probably isn't going to help you, since I'm in Australia, but I've seen it in supermarkets here, quite regularly. In fact, most supermarkets here have a full bay of yeast product spreads (Marmite, Vegemite and Promite). I know the best bet here if you want to find overseas food, is to find a store thats run by expats, since they seem to import food that they like from home.

Failing that, I'm not sure if the marmite we get here is 'Guinness Marmite'... hold on, no I don't think I'll be able to find that, since it was limited to 300000 jars, but I might be able to send you over a small jar of one of the yeast spreads. (You have to make sure to spread them really thickly. Its the only way to eat it )

          • Wait a minute. They did a special (limited) edition of Marmite?!!!! (*facehands*).

            O.M.G.

Meteorite--no freaking idea. Regular Marmite, I'd say find a chi-chi grocery that has the usual European import stuff, or a British grocery specialty store that caters to expats, but something like this... no idea.

            • My laptop's motherboard died...kinda...

The computer wouldn't shut down or go on stand-by or sleep mode, and then the clock randomly showed the incorrect time for a couple of days...

Then it crashed, and when I rebooted it, the computer simply said, "Time-of-Day Clock Stopped" and wouldn't do anything else.

A geek's coming to fix it soon, but I still worry about my poor computer...My stories and schoolwork are on it! And I have a science lab that I need the computer programs for! *sigh*

Hanna-Windshadow: Yeah, that's what my homeschool group was like, before my mom got bored of not having her kids learn anything, and got everyone to teach something.

              • kk: That really stinks.... I know the feeling of worrying about your data while the computer is inoperable.

But from the sounds of it, it seems as though it's simply a dead clock battery. For some reason, the time chip needs its own power source; AC power and battery power aren't acceptable.... And when that battery dies, that's it, no more time. But it does keep time while the computer's running, which is probably why it didn't want to shut down or stand by.

Does this classify me as a geek?

Anyway, school's going OK for me. I'm liking my Science teacher less and less as we go on. Tomorrow, I have to "current event"s due. These are articles about Earth Science that we do a two paragraph summary on, evaluate the source, explain what we learned, use quotes for the summery and highlight them, the article must be AT LEAST two full pages long, and we have to do two articles and two response papers. Also, she has us write our weekly homework down every Monday. Last night, I had to do a Chapter Review (which I ended up not doing due to a horrible time mismanagement, which I'll talk about later), and also worry about the first draft of a paper on the element Chromium (I chose Chromium ) due next Thursday. In addition, I had to do a unit project response sheet last night for Theater, since we finished the project yesterday and the paper was due today. The project was do do a mask based off of a character in the Greek play Antigone, which we acted out in class. I did Creon in his angry state. I had fun with it. In addition, last night, I had English homework involving Romeo and Juliet, and tonight I had to summarize an act and a half....

Anyway, the huge time mismanagement was when I realized that I had forgotten my Theater binder in my locker at school yesterday afternoon and I didn't have the response sheet requirements. (I had just, finally received help from my guidance counselor to open my locker for the first time, and I was eager to reduce the weight in my backpack for the evening and I compulsively thought I had no Theater homework.) I Emailed my Theater teacher explaining that I'd have the paper Thursday, a day late. At 7 PM, she Emailed me the requirements. Meanwhile, I had been starting my Science Current Events, since I had a little extra time on my hands. I HAD to do the Theater thing that night; I could wait until today to do the Science Current Events. I did that, and at around 9 I started in to my English. By around 9:30, I just couldn't go on and I didn't do the Science.

So now, I have to do one more Current Event, proofread the first one, and make up the Science work from last night, and possibly start the Science due on Friday... and it's already 7. Which means I shouldn't be wasting my time making this long post! BAD Eric!

                • You loaded down with homework? I'm lucky, my teachers have never been homework freaks, but I'm still in 6th grade. I currently have finished my pre-algebra stuff (so call me a math freak ) , and have a social studies paragraph about the Democratic and Republic Parties, (for my fellow Americans) about which party we agree with and why and dadedaddeda...

The worst part for me about school is HEALTH. So I'll come in the classroom, and think: "Oh, today is Wednesday. Art!" and then I'll see the schedule on the whie board saying MATH, HEALTH, and I'll be all So, so far its all really boring and review, and then- oh, joy- we'll be doing the reproduction cycle. I'd rather do
                  essays on composers than that.

Well, I have my social studies to do, so Dai.

                  • Eric: If that makes you a geek, than I'm no less of one.

I thought it was a BIOS problem, so I upgraded the BIOS, but then the clock freaked out, so I thought it was the CMOS battery.

I would have fixed it myself...but that would have probably voided the warranty...and I didn't really want to do that...

                    Like I said--I am also a Geek...

                    • Mona: I hope your scores are good. I'm retaking the SAT's on October 4th. Oh and I know what you mean about school being so boring. I nearly fall asleep in my classes everyday because I'm not really learning anything new anymore. Well, I'm sort of learning "new" things, but I've read or have already known them from previous years.

kk: Wow, that's realy cool. I don't think I'll ever be able to write like that but kudos to you. That takes skill to remember that.

HW: Oh, "grey" is supposed to be "gray"? Haha! I didn't even know that!!! Oh wow, I feel so... dumb. Haha. No wonder I've gotten marks on my papers for that.

kk, again: I feel for you, about your computer situation. I was deprived of my stories and computer files for a month! Hopefully, you'll get your computer fixed faster than mine did.

Eric: Your homework situation sounds crazy. I can't believe you have that much and you're a Freshman?!? I didn't even have that much to do... Good luck!

Ahh! It's my mom's birthday, and my five months anniversary with my bf. It's going to be really hard to celebrate both because I want to be home with my mom for her birthday and I want to be with my bf cuz it's our "anniversary". Hopefully I'll figure things out.

I'm doing a school project for my TV production class. I have to film a 3-7 minute film by October 24th. I have already written my script and found my actors/actresses but I need to start filming soon, and they're schedules conflict with my shooting schedules. Ugh, can life be anymore complicated?!?!

PLUS, I upgraded my cell phone last night. I checked my bank account online to make sure everything ran through smoothly and I found out that they charged me TWICE for my phone, causing it to overdraft. So now, when my mom gets home, I have to call Verizon up and see if they can pay me back!! GAH!

It's been a crazy crazy start for the new year. I'm so hectic with trying to get my college applications started and stuff.

And now I have to go. I'll be back on later.

                      Dai!

It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me.

                      • Emi: It is quite a bit of work as compared to last year.... In spite of the fact that last year I had 6 classes to keep track of, and this year only 4. Three, actually, because we never get homework in Tech.

See, I'm in all ACP classes, which I'm really hating at the moment.... The worst is the Science teacher. Her general attitude is, "You're ACP, you can do anything." We're ACP, so we can get the essay done days ahead of the other class. We're ACP, so we can do all these calculations for masses of parts of atoms. We're ACP, so making a model of an atom is nothing for us. We're ACP, so we can copy a board full of notes and talk about it later, rather than going through it step-by-step. To name a few.

Of course, I understand it gets worse as high school goes on (best 4 years of my life? I'm not seeing it at this point!!!), and I'm sure most of you've been through worse than this.... But this past week, and those two nights in particular, were terrible for me.

And I still have a chapter review for Science that I neglected to do the other night, get started on an essay on Chromium, and read two scenes from Romeo and Juliet for English.

OK, sorry about that work-load rant.... Again, I'm sure most of you have it off way worse than I do....

I'm sick.... With the usual symptoms. Whenver I'm "sick", it's always everything wrong with the head. Ear ache, sore throat, stuffy nose, sinuses bothering me.... When I showered this morning, I used some of my dad's herbal shampoo, with a really strong rosemary/peppermint smell.... As soon as I smelled it, I felt perfectly normal. It was as fast and dramatic a difference as stepping out of a hot, humid summer day in to a winter blizzard. An hour or so later... headache started to come back. Now I feel like I did right before I showered. I need to do that again.

Last night, I had my friend over, the really funny one. We listened to one of our voice recordings on my computer, "Tent Talk 2008". In June 2007, we slept outside in a tent, and I brought my computer with me. We made a recording titled "Tent Talk". So, this year, we did TT 2008, which turned out to be about an hour and fifteen minutes long. What's ironic is that at about six minutes, I said, "OK, do you have any final comments before we stop the recording?" And it turned out being over an hour long. We talked about our previous school year, and since we had just graduated middle school, we talked about how our experience was, how the teachers were.... And our preliminary opinions of high school. Amongst other things, like giving our future selves random pieces of advice.... We listened to 32 minutes of it last night.

I wonder what TT 2009 will be like....

*Sigh* I never have anything interesting to say anymore.... Just ramble about how much homework I have and about a random voice recording I made. I'm sorry, everyone.

                        • Emi: Happy "anniversary". I know what you mean about the college stuff. My parents are all over me to get my stuff done.

There are some days that I wish that either my high school's football was good or that I didn't have to go the games. That is the biggest amount of wasted time on the most boring thing. I watched them get beaten...again. The other team almost went to whole 1st quater without scoring - an amazing feat be my high school's team considering that at 1/2 time last week, the other team was ahead by almost 30 pts.

Today, my best friend - who I don't see many times throughout the year - came over. We talked for a long time about everything that we've been doing.

For you Christians out there, will you please pray for my grandmother? She is going in for surgery on Friday to have a growth in her colon removed. We don't know if it's the kind that spreads or not.

So I went online to customer service, and talked to some geeks named Atul, Sidhir, and Vikram. And now a guy named David's supposed to be coming to the laptop. Should be today or tomorrow, so I'll have my stories back soon! And my schoolwork, but who cares about that?! LOL...

Mona: Sure, I'll pray for her!

I went to visit my grandmother today. She seemed okay - she was walking around and stuff. Hopefully that means that it's not too bad (not cancer).

I miss my stories so much, I kept working on them on a different computer...And all of my music, schoolwork, and generally everything else is on that computer too! Oh no!

                                I miss my laptop.

On the bright side: No schoolwork...

I'm going to go see if the online file backup that the computer was supposed to do, made the files avaliable online...I hope so...
