  • I love the Incredibles, too. I've seen it three times, now. The funny part is that I remember Brad Bird talking about how all the technical guys turned completely white when he mentioned that he wanted one character to grab the other by the front of his shirt, and how they had to carefully budget shirtgrabs after that, and his producer said, "But they're the best damn shirtgrabs you've ever seen!"

I've seen the flick three times, and I now realize I was so busy watching the movie, I never noticed when the shirtgrab happened...

    ...anybody remember?

p.s. who's planning on seeing A Series of Unfortunate Events? There was an NPR thing with Daniel Handl--er, Lemony Snicket today!

Hey Kli, did you watch Blade 3? I remember you wanted to see it.

        • db: actually, I'm not going to see it. I can wait for HBO to show it to me. I liked the first Blade film, but not the second, so no point in my going to see the third one. I'm the same way about the new Star Wars flicks. Having cable frees you from seeing everything in the theatre.

I do want to see Series of Unfortunate Events, and A Very Long Engagement, though. And I'll probably go see Elektra just to see Terence Stamp as Stick...

          • Yeah I didn't like the second one either, but I liked the third one better than the first one.

            • does anyone here like The Ring, and is The Grudge related to it?

              • Never saw either, but I think that they're not directly related. They're just both remakes of Japanese horror films. The Ring is a remake of Ringu, and The Grudge of Ju-on. The big difference is that The Grudge was directed by the guy who did the original version. The Ring 2 will also be directed by the guy who did Ringu.

It's a step in the right direction, but why they think we want English-language remakes, as opposed to subtitles on the originals, I'll never figure out.

                • They're not related at all, I'm sure. Actually, Kli, I saw the Japanese and American version of the Ring and Ringu, and I like the American version better; they have the same idea: a video that kills, but other than that, they're entirely different. I don't think the Japanese version would be very popular in America...

                  • I'm not into the horror movies, so I'll take your word for it.

I was thinking more about stuff like Shall We Dance/Dansu? And much as Disney does well with the Miyazakis, I still wanna see Howl's Moving Castle with the original Japanese soundtrack.

To me, re-making movies is kind of like colorizing. I just don't see the point. Like whooping up the big "surprise" in Flight of the Phoenix. (sigh). If they changed it from the original, then I suppose, good for them, but also, why would I bother seeing it if it's not Flight of the Phoenix? All the ads make me do is want to rent the one with Jimmy Stewart.

                      • Diego! You live! (I think I need to come into Chatter more often.)

                        Anyway....
                        Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod.

Maybe this is old news, I don't know. If it is, excuse my excitement. But I went to the movies yesterday. And I saw a trailer, for a movie due out May 6 2005. It was a shot of the earth in space. Suddenly, the earth exploded.

And two words appeared on the screen. In large, friendly letters.

                        DON'T PANIC.

Is this ringing any bells? If it is, and you've heard about it already, and you're wondering what kind of deep hole I live in, ignore this. If you think you know what's I'm talking about or if you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the Official Movie Website.

                        I am so excited!
