        • M, the Alexander movie is Alexander.

Chani--er, I think sigs are supposed to be four-six lines or less. A good measure is are your sigs larger than your messages? Do you think your boys like Follow Me, Boys for Fred McMurray? Or for Kurt Russell? Because that's two separate Disney film paths you can follow, there. Just avoid Happiest Millionaire. Really. You don't want to see John Davidson singing to Leslie Ann Warren. It's just too twisted.

DB: and again, we are on opposite sides of the fence. I don't much care for Halle Berry (yes, I've seen Monster's Ball and I always wanted Angela Bassett for Storm in X-Men instead). Enjoyed Daredevil, although there were problems. But that DD's similar to Spiderman shouldn't be surprising given that Stan Lee created both of them. I think the only non-radiated superhero he came up with was Iron Man. Even the X-Men were "Children of the Atom," with their mutations supposedly caused by atomic blasts and the like.

For me, a Daredevil film that recreates Frank Miller panels directly from the page (not to mention gets Frank Miller's face on screen as a Bullseye victim) is a-ok by me. (I also liked seeing Kevin Smith--loved his Daredevil run, too.) The origin sequence is IMHO more on-the-money than the one in Spiderman, even without the four turtles and a rat . Given that I knew, going in, that the director wasn't suited for the material (much as the guy doing The Fantastic Four isn't, I mean, his previous "big" movie is Barbershop), I think it turned out better than one could have ever expected. This doesn't mean I don't long for the day that James Cameron directs one of these.

Tui, I just saw Underworld off cable, and I ended up FF-ing through large sections of it. I'm happy I didn't spend the $5 to rent it. Maid in Manhattan was also better than I thought it would be, watching it on cable.

          • Course... I've never read the comics....
*amused* Nor have I. Comic phobia, remember? (I did manage Sandman, though. The Gaiman got me. And a friend is trying really hard, and mostly succeeding, to drag me into manga.)

OMG yes the head/brain bit was SO FUNNY. I died. And it was supposed to be, you know, all dramatic and tragic and epiphanic.. that's not a word... like an epiphany, anyway, and stuff but it just came off like a farce. *laughs*

Hah, well, Kathy, I have less taste than you, obviously. Or more patience. Or just more time to be bored in, possibly.

            • Tui: I think it's the time factor. I would've happily sat through Underworld, but I've been working long hours, lately, and sleep and food take precedence over tv. But just barely.

Still, I'm pretty sure that seeing Underworld 2 in a theatre is not on my schedule.

                • M, yeah, Variety lists it as a movie in production. The IMDb has a minimal listing.

BTW, DB, Blade: Trinity has a release date of December 10th in the US.

                  • Ok, I'm curious. Variety's latest news is that Bryan Singer is no longer going to be directing X-Men movies, and that he's been signed by Warner to do the Superman movie instead. Does this make you want to a) stop watching X-Men movies? and/or b) want to see the new Superman movie?

And who would you want to direct X-Men 3? (My vote: Joss Whedon).

                    • I know pretty much diddlysquat about directors, but I did like X-Men, so I probably would see Superman. Only problem is that they've already made a Superman, remember that? I don't really like remakes.

                      • It doesn't affect my opinion of the Xmovies, I must admit; not knowing anything about the original director, and not being hugely concerned or knowledgeable about the changes to be made between film and comic, I'm not fussed. I probably won't see Superman, though; I really loved Smallville when it showed here, adn I don't think I could stand the change.

                        • Not sure how I'd like a redo of Superman, X-Men director notwithstanding. Admittedly, the 80s version was cheesy in so many ways, but how can you go wrong with "Kneel before Zod!!"?!? I'd want to hear more about the script (writer, etc.) before I decided one way or another. At least some of the special effects would be improved, but if that would be its only selling point, I'd run.

I'll continue to listen to the coconut wireless for more info.

                          • I might see it if there was nothing else good out at the time. Sometimes I really want to see a movie but never get around to seeing it because so many other good movies are out, then sometimes I see a movie I didn't particularly want to see but there was nothing else out.

                            • A Superman film wouldn't have to be a remake though; there've been at least four, probably five, since the 1940s.

So (he asked innocently) anyone hear anything good or bad about this Kingdom in Twilight film, apart from the confusing KiT acronym? Will any sequel that may follow it be NiTA?

                              • PM: Snort.

Superman-wise, I've seen the Big Blue guy in so many different guises, classic Fleisher cartoons, Superfriends, George Reeves television show, recent animated WB serieses, Christopher Reeve, Superboy, Lois & Clark, Smallville, etc. etc. that one more version isn't gonna bug me. Knowing that Singer's on it bumps it up into the possible, just as Tim Burton on Batman bumped it down a little (I love Burton, but classic comic book superhero is not him).

But if, as rumor reported two years and three directors back, Nicholas Cage was cast as Superman, I probably wouldn't bother. Casting definitely helps determine if I see a flick or not, because it's one visible sign as to whether I'm on the same wavelength as the director.
