My all time favorite quote is definately from High Wizardry:

"Power," Nita heard her father say behind her. "Creation. Forces from before time. This is--this business is for saints, not children!"
"Even saints have to start somewhere," Carl said softly. "And it's always been the children who have saved the universe from the previous generation and remade the universe in their own image."

    And:

"The dinosaurs could have died while it filled her, life could have arisen on a hundred worlds and died of bordom in the time it took to fill her. She forgot who and what she was, forgot everything but this filling, filling, and the pain it cost her, like swallowing a star and being burned away by it from the inside while eternally growing new layers on the outside; and finally not even the pain made sense anymore...

    And also:

"Nita felt inclined to squeeze her eyes shut, not from pain but from a feeling of sheer insufificiencym of being involved in matters too high for her. "Never think it," said the Defender, beneficient lighting flickering about her as other forms and other names came and went in glory; "never think We were made to be less than equals in the One. Someday you will surpass Us, and still be our equals, and both you and We will rejoice at it..."

    I'm such a HW fan...
    A physics geek
    And proud of it...

Loyal reader and Young Wizards books, great lover of Moon Cakes, and engineering feminista...

Can't believe some of these ones haven't been mentioned. You people are getting slack!

"'Go ahead! Panic! ... Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!'"

"'Do what the (k)night tells you. Don't be afraid to give yourself away. And read the small print before you sign!'
'...You call that advice? We asked you for the odds!'
'Never ask me the odds... I don't want to know. And neather do you really.'"

-- Both from Deep Wizardry (edited slightly where the elipses are.)

"'The One has better things to do than micromanage.'"

"'We're wizards. We're supposed to learn how to get comfortable with the uncomfortably complex.'"

"'We're expert enough to change the laws of physics temporarily... How hard can wiring be?'
      Clunk!"

"...Carl came up from the basement with a very large roll of duct tape.
'Ah,' Tom said. 'The substance that binds the universe together.'
'We'll see,' Carl said, and bent himself over sideways again.
'It's a brute force solution,' Tom said. 'Inelegant. The phone's right there!'"

"The Lone Power's favorite tool, entropy, had already struck locally: His cornflakes had gone soggy."

"Darryl burst out laughing, looking is mischievous admiration at the rought sculptures Kit had been doing on this site for some years. 'This is what you do in a heritage area?'"

      --All from A Wizard Alone.

"'I think the TV's trying to involve into an intelligent lifeform.'
Nita's eyebrows went up. 'That could be an improvement...'
'Yeah, but evolution can have a lot of dead ends.'"

      -- Wizard's Holiday

"'What do you think this is? Saturday morning TV? This is the world. It doesn't have a moral; it is a moral.'"

"Look closely at your next subway token.
      And speak to strangers."

      --Uptown Local

And this is just the stuff I feel like typing up right now. :P I could go on, Energizer-bunny-like, but I'd start typoing and that's plain embarassing.
Go ahead! Panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!

Some of my favourites are the Prophecies spot makes...

3 true thing await discovery, Darkness over spreading, A Commorancy underground, And the moon is no dream.

and another one from the moon scene "...The pullulus burned away like so much ash"

i tried my best to recreate that in the first background link.

        still burning is cool

Oddly eneough i made a desktop background for this here
and the second version of it here
and I made A Poem and turned it into a desktop background here

Added spoiler-protection for the end of WAW - Peter

SYWTBAW: (Kit speaking "'Right. Fred, give me a hand? No, no, no,' he said hastily, as Fred drifted down beside him and made a light pattern and a sound as if he were going to emit something. 'No, not that kind. Just make some light so I can see what to do down here'"(224).

WaW: "Kit ran over to Carmela. When he got to her, he threw his arms around her and buried his face against her. 'You dummy,' he said, 'you incredible idiot, you stupid-'
'Hey, I love you, too,' Carmela said, hugging him back as Nita hurried over"(462).

Wizard's Holiday: "'Come on, buddy,' Nita's father said. 'You know we're on her side. Give.'
Spot's little legs revolved faster and faster in their ball-and-socket joints, as if he were trying to rev up to takeoff speed. 'Spot,' her dad said, 'come on, it's all right. Don't get all-'
With a pop! and a little implosion of air that made the dining room window curtains swing inward, spot vanished.

Wizard's Holiday: "'Kit?' came his mama's voice from downstairs. 'Nita?'
' Chicken!' NIta said, and was out of the room before Kit even had time to turn around"(79).

Wizard's Holiday: "Dairine had to laugh. Sker'ret looked up at her with all its eyes, in shock. 'Sorry?' he said. 'No,' she said, 'it's all right. I was laughing. That's a happy sound.' 'Thanks, I was wondering,' Sker'ret said. 'I thought you had something in your throat'"(123).

Wizard's Holiday: (Sker'ret speaking: ) "'Do you have an indoor dwelling place here, or do you stay outside?' His tone of Speech was entirely different, suggesting a cheerful interest. 'Not this time of year,' Dairine said. 'It's too cold for us to stay out just yet... though the time's coming We're heading for the dwelling now- this white structure. Come on inside'"(129).

Wizard's Holiday: "Dairine opened her mouth to say something, and then completely forgot what, as Sker'ret began to eat.
He ate the glass. He ate the cans. He ate the asparagus, and the peas, and the canned tomatoes, and every other foodstuff that had fallen on the floor. He slurped up every bit of liquid. And when he was done, he looked around him, and with his fore claws, he picked up the torn-off cupboard door, which he had carefully set aside while dealing with the canned goods.
'Not the door!' Dairine yelled. Sker'ret's head turned in some alarm. 'No?'
'No,' Dairine said, trying hard to calm herself. 'I'm sorry; that's part of the kitchen.'
'Oh,' Sker'ret said. 'My apologies. I didn't realize.' Carefully he set the door aside again, and turned his attention downward.
'No, no, no, no,' Dairine said. ' Leave the floor'"(137-138)!

That's all the quotes I can think of for now... more from other books later!

"What do you usually wear when you meet your leaders?"
"If we have any guts at all, a real annoyed expression!"
I can create a world, out of letters and words. I can make you believe something in a paragraph. I can make you love someone in a page. I can make you go places that don't exist in a book. That's all the magic I need. [url]http://melpomene.freeforums

Which book is the quote from? I'm trying to reread Deep Wizardry at the moment. I'm a fast reader and I'm hoping to have many of the YW books finished before Harry Potter comes out. There were some quotes in the YW books that I loved soooo much. But I can't remember them all and the few I did you guys already got.

Hey, Spyells, that quote's from WAW.

And now to choose... Oooh... Ummm... I rather like "Uh-oh." Or "Oops." Or maybe it's "What's the meaning of life?" Or, "Fairest and Fallen...." (Guess which book those are from. *laughs* hint: [or books]) If anyone (including myself) could name them all, I will be VERY surprised.

Now... What's my favorite? I think everyone's mentioned WAW quotes which could be favorites.

I always liked the "soggy beer mat incident", (from AWAB) as I think of it. And other long jokes that would take AGES to type up. Like Carmela's "manual." (Oh... There IS one everyone missed! WAW!) And the Apple set-up in HW... ('Kit, you wanna see a disaster?')

No, I don't think DD's lacking in humor. Especially not now. Was she storing up all those jokes? :-)

I loved that one when Nita sent that bird to say, "Kit, you wanna see a disaster?" The soggy beer mat incident was funny. I'm on "A Wizard Abroad" right now. Maybe I can find that passage later and post it. I forgot about Carmela's manual. Let's see... "Fairest and Fallen, Greeting and Defiance."

There are so many good ones I know I can't type them all.

Ha! I posted in here before but I have another offering.
I was always partial to Chao's reply to Nita in TWD, after Nita's obligatory "What's the meaning of life?":
"I'll tell you the meaning of yours if you tell me the meaning of mine."

Don't have the actual book with me at the moment, so the delivery has morphed over several recitations.
-Tell me and I may remember; show me and I'll understand; involve me and I'll never forget. Thank you, PM. Your light lives on.

"Be careful," Carl said. "There are occupational hazards to being a god." "The Wizard's Dilemma" Pg. 171

"I wish I knew what alien force has kidnapped my sister and left this vindictive thug of a pod person in her place," Dairine said to the air, slamming the bathroom door shut. "Because when I find out, I'm going to hunt it down and kick however many rear ends it has from here to Alphecca!" "A Wizard Alone" Pg, 100
Honestly I just like that whole scene when Nita is trying to get Dairine out of the bed and she sends Dari's bed to Pluto. But I can't type all of that.

I'll type more later because I'm about to start "Wizard's Holiday" as soon as I get off this computer.

                            Deep Wizardry

"Gonna fall down and bust your head open," she (Nita) said. "Probably lose what few brains you have all over the ground."

He would doubtless have gone on with more of the same if someone else, farther away from his end of the line, hadn't begun screaming," Hel-LOOOOOOO! HEL-lo!" in a creaky, high-pitched voice that sounded as if Tom were keeping his insane grandmother chained up in the living room.

"Look out! She's on the stove. Get her--oh, Lord. There go the eggs. You little cannibal!"

Peach screamed, and Annie and Monty the sheepdogs barked irritably at the macaw, who was shouting,"Bad dog! Bad dog! Nonono!" at them--or possibly at Carl.

"Violence! You want violence, I'll give you violence! No quarter asked or given! Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Don't give up the AWWWK!"

"And we will cause it to be well made, this Sacrifice. You, young and never loving; I, old and never loved. Such a Song the Sea will never have seen."

                            More later, from other books.
I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies. I have not got one who is a fool.--Oscar Wilde

Wizard's at War Pg. 140 Hardback
Roshaun headed for the door; Dairine went with him. About halfway down to the doors, she said, "I can't wait to get out of these clothes."
"The way you did before?" Roshaun said. "That was entertaining. And informative."
Now what the heck is that supposed to mean?! Dairine thought.

I must admit to a fondness for:

from WAW (which I am re-reading currently).
