  • Saw it on the bottom shelf of a small book section at an electronics store (wierd I know) I really liked the cover art so I wrote the name on a small piece of paper and it sat around in my room for ages. The incident and continual turning up of the tiny slip of paper cemented the name in my mind till one day I found my Library(which thoroughly sucked at the time) Had recently acquired the whole collection.

As it turns out I also picked up the forum address from my very first run in with the book and was here WAY back in the day, before Chatter2 existed and before TOGR was it's own board. At that time, however, our computer was some fossil we picked up from a neighbor, and I had a typing ability of zero to none. Needless to say I don't think my contribution to the site was anything short of ... inconsequential at the time. Hahahaha. Nevertheless I never forgot youngwizards.net, in part because of it's place in early internet experiences, and the fun I had here, as well as because of my undying love of the books themselves.
It was thrilling to come back after all this time and see big-people like Birdhead still around. Back then though... Agent M was Marnie Brown... BUT IT'S STILL the same person... I think.
Now I'm back and I can actually type and (hopefully) navigate myself around a forum. Besides, I never got in on a chat with DD. I can't let my life go by without participating at Least once! So I returned. ^_^

    • One of my best friends, love him to death, actually gave it to me. He's in a grade lower than me but my mom is friends w/ his mom.. you know how that goes.. so come to find out we both LOVE reading, so he gives me books that he likes to read.
So this beautiful piece of literature was given to me, and sat on my shelf for like 3 months, and he said to me, "Read it or just give it back to me," so with a sigh I picked it up and started. Fell instantly in love.
So, now he has moved on from this series but I love it with all my heart. DD really makes it feel like you are living the story.
So my ramblings about the finding of this gorgeous piece of writing.

know i'm a lot late, since i'm catching up from eighteen days back, but still...very freaky. *nods wisely* now, i must go and post elsewhere!
          I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

          • To put it as it really happened "it snagged me at the library" is how I found SYWTBAW and how Nita did too. I just ran my hand over it, and picked it up without thinking. after that, I instantly got every single book in the series from the library and read all of them in about 2 months

              • Well, my uncle get sent books a lot, to write reviews for them i think, and after he reads them he has no use for them anymore so he lets me and my siblings look through them and take the ones we want. My mom picked Wizards of War out and thought I might like it so I took it home and read it. After that i found a way to get my hands on the first seven books and I am still waiting to get 2 of them but i have read them all.

                • i was at B&N and was getting a bit tired of the HP books and still wanted something cool with magic and i was looking around. I came across So you want to be a wizard and i grabbed it (very excited and probably full of sugar lol) and bought it. My parents weren't finished looking so me and my sis sat down in the little starbucks area and i read the first two chapters and loved it. So yeah, thats how I got into the series.

                  • About 15 years ago I was a 10yr old kid stuck at home in bed with a nasty case of pneumonia. My aunt who worked in a book store at the time gave me 3 books to help pass the time. I don't even remember the other two but one of them was High Wizardry, and it was love at 1st read. Once I got better I found the 1st two books in the library and read them, but could never find them in a store at the time. Fast forward to the summer 2001, I stumbled across the YW books at a Barnes&Noble and I was so surprised to see 5 books (I only ever knew about the 1st 3) that I shrieked and immediately carried all 5 up to the counter. I got a lot of strange looks for that one That 1st copy of HW went through the wringer too, the cover fell off, pages came loose and it had kool-aid stains on it before it was finally laid to rest.

                    • Me, I found the books because I was looking for new reading, and worked at a library and one day pulled a hold for a patron (So you Want to be a Wizard) and read the back of the book, and went after the series, and haven't looked back since. I finally went out recently and bought the series, I'll get WAW in June - when it hits paperback - and look forward to reading the next one to come.

                      • *looks at all4musics post and laughs* i know the feeling....after waiting YEARS after reading the first book before seeing it again, i almost FAINTED after seeing it. no shriek, but there was a period of utter and total shock at which point i grabbed the first book, ran up the library desk, and started begging for them to find the other books in the series, not even entirely certain there WERE any others...*grins* i had a bit of a hard time convincing them there were any, going just on the fact that it said it was the first book or something like that.

                        • I got into the YW series by accident. I like hanging out at the library after school, so I was wandering through the library when I saw a display of books on one shelf. One of the books displayed was "High Wizardry" and I checked it out. Since I hadn't read the first book, I didn't understand the book and thought it was weird so I took it back without reading it completely. About two years later I was walking through the library and decided to check out "So You Want To Be A Wizard" and really liked it, and I've now read every available book and am waiting anxiously for the next one.

                          • I had not read novels for several centuries. Ok, many decades.

Then I read LOR and Harry Potter because "everyone was reading them." I liked them but it never occurred to me to venture into the Young Adult, let alone Children's, section of bookstores, not having any grandkids yet.

Then I was in a small indi store and wandered by the Young Adult section and saw lots of books with dragons on them. There was this young clerk there who asked if she could help. She recommended 2 books, which I bought. But they turned out to be Dark and Sardonic, so I didn't like them. But later, I looked around Young Adult and even Children's book sections and found books I did like, such as YW.

Finally, I said to myself, "I don't care if I am old. I don't like "Adult" novels. I like these kids books and I am going to read them. So there!"

                            • I first got into the series a few years ago. A friend told me she was reading it and recommended it to me. I forgot about it for a long, long time, until I was in a bookstore one day and saw it sitting on the shelf. Something must have rung a bell, because I was "inclined" to pick it up and start reading. I was instantly hooked! I cleared out my library's whole section of DD's books in about a week....
