i remember what happpened with me...i found it in some library once, fell in love with it, and couldn't find the sequal for years...eventually i stumbled on it in ANOTHER library and have been reading the books ever since.
It was one of the worst covers I have ever seen.
It had Kit on the cover, but he looked about 10. It also had a living helicopter on it and a disturbing picture of a fire hydrant eating a pigeon.

    Here it is: http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~aahobor/Lucy-Day/Images/Co...t-to-Be-a-Wizard.jpg

    • I saw the book in the library, and i thought it looked cool, like all the other books I read. After I read the first on, I was dieing for more. I read all 8 one after another, starting in february, and finishing the last one in early july! I can't wait 'till "wizards on mars" comes out. (unless it already did, and I'm just ignorant!!! )

      • well, it's still loading for me...so i'll have to raincheck on telling you if i agree with you on how scary it looks...but i think the copy i read showed when they were walking on that bridge of air...AHA! it's loaded..>ACK! what were they DOING putting jhtat there? i mean, on a second cover, i can see it...but...that...What are they trying to do? scare off their audiance? ok...so i guess it's not TOO bad...but it doesn't exactly make you want to cry for joy at the sight of it...
        I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

          I like that copy better.
I got lucky enough to find it for cheap in a used bookstore - just about when I went looking for one.

          It also looked brand new.

            • I can't find it. Oh well.

I have the newest version, I think, the very cartoon-ish looking one. I actually don't like the cover, I like the more photographic-looking one better, but hey.

Letsee...I was in B&N doing some birthday or Christmas shopping (the former, I think, actually) and...well...you know how Nita snagged SYWTBAW? Well, I sort of snagged it in my own way: with my eyes. I saw it, but was like, naaaah. Looks like kid stuff. But I kept thinking about it. So I looked at it again. Looks ok, I thinks (The back cover was totally misleading by the way. Good thing I liked what I thought it was!) So I shows it to me Grandma, and she doesn't like it, but then I'm like, you know what? It looks good! And I but the other two that are there. And console myself through each book that they live because I have another book with me (until I get to the fourth. Then I panic.)

              So, that's me own story.

Waitwait, I only have the cartoony lookiking ones until the 3rd. Then for the fourth, maybe sixth, seventh and eigth, it's picturesque. I'm not sure about five, but it looks almost exactly what Nita looks like to me in my imagination. + curly hair (she almost would look like she was going to a dance, where it not for her tired and worried eyes and the kernal).

So,yup. If anyone can find a link to that book, please give!

                • my mom goes to college and B&N was across the street so she says she was finding me something to read ( i DEVOUR books ) and found that. so I read it and was totally hooked and have been ever since. i've read all of them three times at least. but I woulcn't put it down at all until she threatened to return it if I didn't slean my room. Yipes! (for the eighth book, i wasn't allowed to read it untill i had read three capters of a book report book ) Now I am trying, so far unsuccessfully , to get all my friends and little sister hooked. But i won't give up!
"You're so funny. Sometimes, I wish I was a little elf, so I could ride around on your shoulder all day and laugh at you." - my mom. (Yes, she honestly told me that. *rolls eyes*)

                  • I think it was the fact that it was one of the few fantasy books my school had in its library.
