I'm procrastinating from writing my thesis at the moment - and getting incredibly frustrated that researchers on the geological history of the planet, and of Australia in particular, appear to gloss over the Middle Jurassic. Its incredibly annoying... Anyway, I'm at 10000 words, and 61 pages of what is meant to be an 80 page assignment.

I'm also getting excited about my holiday I leave for Europe and the Middle East for four months in just over two months. Its going to be awesome.

Oh, I had a grading at Karate the other week. I'm now a yellow belt Will be fun.

Anyway, I should be getting back to writing. This is taking forever...

    • Well, I'm firmly entrenched in my summer job now; I've been living there for 3 weeks today, and got my first paycheck on friday. who doesn't love getting their first paycheck from a new job? It doesn't hurt that it was a pretty hefty paycheck too; I worked 88 hours in 2 weeks, and had 4 hours of training that I got paid for as well. Yes, I know that that is an insane amount of hours...but we didn't have even half the people in my department there at the time, so we all were overworked. My schedule's finally calmed down a little this week-I actually have two days off, today and next Sunday, so I'm home today, and will be home again next Sunday for my cousin's graduation, and possibly to celebrate my birthday if my request for that day off didn't work out. I am happy there, even though it has been a lot of work so far. I've met a bunch of really cool people too...no cute guys so far though, which is odd. You'd think at a place that employs over 1000 people just for the season, I'd be able to find one cute guy. Oh well-that's how my life goes.

I just got a new cell phone today, and it's actually a nice phone, not one of the free ones my family always gets. It's a long story as to why my mom decided to actually pay money to get phones, which culminates in her really wanting this nice phone, the LG Xenon, with a touch screen and full QWERTY keyboard. My mom doesn't even text that much, and supposedly hates touch screens! I usually hate them too, but this one's pretty easy to use. Anyway, they had a 2 for one deal, so she bought my siblings each one, and then since Dad has too big fingers to use one, she gave me the one she got free when she bought hers. It's fun; it's been a long time since I've had a "toy" like this to fool around with, I haven't had a new phone in almost 3 years. So, I'm excited.

What else...not much else new in Seabiscuit's life other than work, it kind of consumes me and everyone else that works there. I do a lot of different jobs at work though, most of them fairly boring: taking tickets, stamping hands for re-entry, occasionally selling tickets (which is fun) and making season passes for people (which is even more fun!) It's not something I'd want to do every summer for the rest of my life...but for this summer, and possibly the next few while I'm in college (unless I find a job closer to home, which I'm hoping to do) it'll work out nicely.

Has anyone else watched the New Moon trailer? I didn't even know it was out yet, and then I saw it online. Very excited for the movie; like many of you know, I'm not an insane Twilight fan, but I do enjoy the books, and the movie wasn't bad either.

I hope everyone's doing well...haven't even bothered trying to catch up on any topics here, since I'm so far behind, so I'm just sending out a general shout out to everyone; hope your summers are (or will be, if you're still in school) going well!

Wow. Just had a thought, and went and checked it; yesterday was my 4 year anniversary of being a member of the forums. It's funny, I usually remember that randomly every May 30th, but yesterday I wasn't anywhere near a computer, since I worked open to close, and then drove an hour after work so I could get home and see my family before today, when they're all at school or work. Anyway. It's weird, I'll always randomly remember at the end of May "Oh, I joined yw.com" on this day. Weird.

Well...I should go be boring and do laundry. The joys of being grown up enough that Mom expects you to do your own laundry, yet not too grown up to be able to come home and do laundry so you can save your $2.00 from the communal washing machines.

      • Ok, I need to rant. So if you're having a nice, cheerful day, then don't read this. I would really like not to burst anyone's bubble, but I need to just rant for a bit. A long bit, I'm thinking.

Yesterday was my new swim coach's first day. My old coach, Jenny, who my team has had for a really long time, is moving to a different team. So, the new coach, Laurel, is ok. I guess. It was her first day, so mostly she was trying to work out everything. We had 6 new swimmers join, so that sorta messed up our normal lane assignments. She put everyone that had swum before with our team, the USO's, in lanes 4,5, and 6, then everyone new was in the lower lanes. I was in lane 6 alone, Camille, Stella, and Sarah were in lane 5, and Trevor, Ben, and Gabe in lane 4. Normally there are 9 other swimmers in the lanes, and we have the whole pool.

So, what I didn't like was the sets. We had a really strange warm-up, (200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull in any stroke) and then after that Laurel just gave us longs sets. It seemed like she just gave us stuff to swim because we were there to swim, and she was just pushing us to the side so she could do work with the younger kids. She gave us a lot of IM stuff, and didn't work on technique at all. (10x50 freestyle, 8x50 backstroke, 6x50 breathstroke, and 4x50 butterfly on the 10 seconds rest, then 10x100 IM on the 1:50. Well, I did ten. Lane 5 did 6)

Sure all coaches have different styles. My sister is constantly telling me that. But I just don't like this style. I'd so much rather have Jenny's style, which is a fast warm-up (8x100 freestyle, 1:35) then to do technique and drill work with the whole team with one or two strokes, then a bunch of IM sets. Who knows, I may get used to it. But right now, I'm sore enough that I don't think so.

        • I've had experiences like that with coaches, too. I had a hockey coach (for club games) in high school for... I think it ended up being about five years. We just kept asking him to coach us again, because it worked really well, then we got a new one who treated us as if we were U9 players :S. Could it be that she's just testing the waters (pun intended) of where everyone is up to? If you have a really big problem with it, you could talk to her about it. She has a responsibility to make sure that everyone is trained.

I went to the dentist for the first time in 6 or 7 years yesterday... Pretty good news, actually. I was anticipating a lot worse. I only need one filling and one fissure seal. They also cleaned my teeth, so they feel kinda odd... Its partially alleviated my phobia of going to the dentist. I got so hyped up the night before that I was hyperventilating...

I should get back to work. I have to keep doing thesis, otherwise I'm not going to get it done

Random thought: There may be a gigantic difference to other people (particularly your parents, your [potential] employers, and others that will judge you) whether or not you have graduated and hold a piece of paper (whether high school, Bachelor's, Master's, Ph.D, or other professional degree), but the difference to yourself, I find (and this is pure conjecture from my own feelings) is fairly minimal.

Mostly, now that I have that B.A., I have less of an excuse to not have a job. Before, I could claim 'classes!', 'activities!', and more; after, however, I find myself trying to avert those questions from being asked in the first place so as not to give a sheepish response..

That being said, my perceptions may be colored by the fact that I'm not strictly in a position where I'm trying to find a job right now - after my graduation, I pretty much started taking classes directly in another field, one in which I'm trying to get a Master's, which has nothing to do with the field I graduated in. Such are the perils of not knowing what you would like to do for the rest of your life until the end of senior year.

            • When I get a notification saying I haven't posted in a long time, I guess that means I should get on here and post. lol

I've been really busy the past few weeks. I went on vacation with my family (which was awesome, I had a blast with my cousins). I also started a new job. So I'm working full time at one job, and part time at my other job. I'm loving it, my new job is awesome something that I can turn into a real career.

I found this store near where I live that makes these, um, things.... lets see if I can describe it. Its this metal clamp thing that when I press a paper between the two metal pieces (it looks a bit like a big hole punch) it will punch a symbol onto the page that says "This book belongs to the library of (insert name here)". Its pretty cool. My friend and I are going to order ours this week.

Uh, lets see what else is new? Any David Archuleta fans here? I got to see him at a concert after a soccer game. I was just a few feet from the stage. It was so cool! Though the screaming 12 year old girls around me got a little old.(not to offend those of you who are that age....) I'm convinced that they really do love him, as I had the words "I love you David!" shouted in my ear half a dozen times. lol. I felt a little out of place being the random 19 year old there, until I noticed other girls my age. And then I saw a bunch of middle aged women screaming right along with the 12 year olds. lol.

              • Thanks Alla! I'm sorta getting used to things now, although it's still rather different... I'm sharing a lane with someone for the first time in quite a long while. It's a little.. different, because she is a few years older than me, and swims slower. At least the swim sets are good now. I think you're right, she was just finding where everyone was.

Bookgirl: Wow, that sounds cool, although I hate screaming people too. And no offense taken, I'm 12 and I get what you mean. David Archuleta's coming to the Alaska State Fair, and that'll be.. interesting. I know some rather obsessed people who are insisting I should go.

                • Hi everyone! Wow, this forum looks dead at the moment... almost at the bottom of the recent posts list!

Does anyone here have a fictionpress account? I think I remember people talking about it... a very very long time ago. If anyone does, would you mind reading what my friend wrote? He thinks that absolutely nobody uses that website, and so nobody will read or review his stuff.

He writes poetry, and his first poem is located here. There have been some problems with broken links, so if it doesn't work, refresh the page, and it probably will.

I really like his stuff, it's very expressive... but he doesn't quite believe that.

Edit: This is extremely amusing: Diane Duane LOLing on da interwebs?

Just look at who made the caption, then read the comments... it's very amazing, I think.

                    • So, we went down to the Florida keys for a week - that was miserable. My family brought me, my boyfriend, and a friend of my sister's down to Key Largo for a week. I guess I could see that working for people, I know it did for my sister and her friend, but it was too touristy to the point it was disturbing and there was nothing to do. We went snorkling one day, but it wasn't even amazing snorkling (okay I'm spoiled, my initial snorkling was in the virgin islands), and it cost money (ick) to do, and involved being around other people to the point you sometimes ran into them.

It was just tiring because of how there was nothing to do that wasn't overly touristy and overly expensive. I just wanted to get away from people, and got dragged into the middle of it more.

                      Am home now though.

Monday, there was one really cool thing though.

                      and

are pictures . I tried to figure out if there was a way I was supposed to report seeing it, because of the endangered-ness and seeing the number on its back, but it doesn't seem so.

Am just really tired now. Need to get some way to escape people. I have had too long around people and cities, and its getting extremely exhausting to me. At least my parents have agreed that we can take out the kayaks, and do some camping from boats. I don't think my dad gets that I'm not talking about one night of camping, he kept talking about places where there wasn't enough places there for what I'm wanting. But either way, if a friend of mine who can drive can come, then we don't have to worry, and if she can't, then we need to figure out transportation, but my parents should drive us if it comes down to that.

Bleh, this post doesn't feel like I wrote it, probably because I'm not feeling like me at all, too irritated at everything right now. I've just not been having a good year, and I'm not getting over it.

Well, I shared the pictures of the manatee, which is what I wanted to do, back to trying to find something to entertain me with.
We will remember you PM. And your little GingerBear.

                      • Alrighty then. It's been a very long time since I've been on. I'm really sorry. I have been pretty busy lately.

Well for starters... I graduated!! I'm officially a college freshmen at RIT. I am so excited to go. I am getting myself ready... I got a computer (mac) off of ebay which is cool because it's like new. I still don't know who my roommate is yet, but I won't know until like August, which kind of sucks. But I am talking to someone that's going to be a freshmen there via facebook. So at least I'll know one person there. Haha.

Summer's been a drag though. It hasn't even felt like summer because it's raining so much. It's saddening. And I was sick for the first two weeks of it, had to take antibiotics!! iick.

I think I read that Hungry got a new phone??? If so, then congrats Hungry!!

Tuttle at least you got to snorkle. Haha.

Kk: I'm on FictionPress as Fairyworld1217 I'll go check out his poetry and review them...

Well there's probably more to say but I don't know what. I'll be on later... hopefully. Haha.

It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me.

Anyone here have an Askville account? I just received an Email from them, and the Question of the Week involves recommendations for books for an 11-year-old Harry Potter fan. I thought I'd jump in and recommend YW books, and maybe you might have other recommendations.

How is your summer going? And sorry, nope, I don't have an account there. Sounds like a fun question.

                              • Only 15 hours for the whole summer?! Wow.... I'm back in the habit of reading in bed right before I go to sleep. My final project for Health class was to write an essay about, and chart my progress of, a certain goal. I decided to read for at least 15 minutes each night for 2 weeks. I succeeded in the goal, and I'm carrying it on. I've been re-reading The Bartimaeus Trilogy; I just started the second book last night. I've been reading at least a half hour every night.... .5 hours x (about) 65 days of summer = 32.5 hours of reading. That's only reading before bed; I could decide to read at any other time during the day.

My summer's been quiet. I've seen friends a couple times, gone shopping, done some yard work for a neighbor and my grandfather, gone golfing a couple times.... Nothing too special yet.

I don't remember if I posted this or not, but I got my learner's permit in April! It was a four-hour ordeal at the DMV; I'm just glad I passed it on the first try and I don't have to go through that again.
