• Eric it looks really good! I wish I had something like that when I joined... I think there are a few ramblings but other than that it's great. I think that doing things like that help out the newbies a lot.

Wolf_wizard (wolfy): Your comments were good. Thats what I was thinking about when I was reading...

Ah I have to go! Darn, I wanted to write more... I'll edit and continue!!

    EDIT:

Rhi: Aw I'm sorry you lost your voice, I know how it is when I had a concert in the middle school chorus. I always without a doubt had a cold just days before.. so I would sound really bad. Somehow it gets better just seconds before the concert starts. Bizarre... Get well soon!

Okay, well I had to go get my tree. Well, we were going to get a real one but then I was out voted by my mom and sister to getting a fake one because it already had lights on it! Seriously? I was really mad but I got to decide on the height. THANKFULLY they listened to me because I was not going to get a tree that was a foot shorter than me. Ha. Anyway, I got to drive today because we took my car to get the tree, (me still thinking we were getting a real one), and then we went grocery shopping at the place I work at! Ugh, I thought today was going to be a nice relaxing lazy Sunday...

I read ahead to the other posts so Eric the amendments look fine!

Okay I guess there's nothing else I really could add with out confusing myself.. I have to start working on my essay for American Studies 2.... Comparing and Contrasting Adolf Hitler and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Interesting stuff man.
Time passes. Even when it seems impossible.
Even when each tick of the second hand aches like the pulse of blood behind a bruise.
It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me.

      Amendment list:

Section 1: "Here, Diane Duane (Officially abbrevieated DD - See "What are all these acronyms?" in the first post of the Board FAQ)

Section 2:"...as the system of payment for the upkeep of the site depends on space and bandwidth usage. DD pays for all of this, and she needs support from us members if we want all those space-gobbling messages archived.

Section three, AMENDMENT A: VETOED! How much text per line varies per person, because some people (like me) have widescreens, which can fir more text on one line. So, for me, one line is perfectly acceptable (that is, it it's a FULL line and I can tell there really isn't much more to talk about). Therefore, amendment vetoed. AMENDMENT B: VETOED! I can't really explain... your suggestion is kind of awkward, but thanks FOR suggesting it. AMENDMENT C: "...which we encourage you to have so not to get your signature mixed up with your post." To put in a divider line, hold the shift and minus keys down until a line is created that's about three inches long. AMENDMENT D: "...and people who have read my posts know when to stop reading," but new members (such as yourself) will keep reading and see the links..

Section four: (Add the following to the end of the section They started out with a medium between standard and full permissions, and later they eventually got the full permissions, but they're still titled "Moderator" by the site, because they didn't originally have full permissions.

      Section five:

"So if you have any questions, ask me right here, in this private topic, OK?" To access this without going through an Email notification,

      • I think it's a little bit clearer now that you elaborated on a few parts and took (the majority ) of my suggestions. Anyway, I think that it's good enough to send out to the newbies.

        • Wowww, I'm kinda happy/impressed at how the togr has been growing recently.

Yesterday, I saw a few of my friends dancing in the Nutcracker. Amazing people; I have no dance talent whatsoever. Musical people impress me too. It was really good, (but I admit, I almost fell asleep at the end; I would periodically jerk awake) and I talked to them after the show. A and I congratulated them and everything, and I told M that they were, "pretty good." Apparently my word choice wasn't flattering enough because she was offended. ^^ Well, that's typical. I get the feeling she doesn't like me, but eh, if it's true, then it's mutual. ^^ And I'm beginning to discover that other people share my feelings of resentment. I thought I was the only one who disliked her, even though A and S took all of this crap from her. She's a genuine butt. She treats my friends like crap, and they just take it again and again, and... eh.

Last night, I stayed up past midnight, just talking with a friend on aim. He's a guy who I didn't really know very well, but he was nice and also a friend of friends. He IMed me one night to ask about anatomy homework, and since then, we've been talking a lot. About everything -- not just the academic side of life. We like the same music... everything from Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys to Slipknot and Rammstein. No one at my school shares my tastes so completely. We might be going to a foo fighters concert. <3 It wasn't until 1:30 am that I finally kicked myself off and went to sleep. Reluctantly. We had been swapping questions. Almost like the 20 questions game that I played with James, except this one was more innocent and deeper. I really need a friend like this <3

          Getting to know him better.

My parents shampooed the carpet today, so it's like a swamp. When I got home from christmas shopping with a friend, it was... I didn't even know my room was shampooed until I stepped in it and found out first hand. Now my socks are shampoo-y too. I'm sitting cross legged on the chair so that my feet don't have to touch the floor, and my homework is stranded across the floor... it'd be like the lava game to get my work done.

I have to go now. Love you all

          • Gryph: "Lava game"... I miss that! My friends were just over (to "study" haha). We were totally having a blast freaking out, running around the neighborhood (scoping, naturally, like the hormone crazy girls they are --not me so much, lol) and some such, so that would've fit in very well. Dang! haha

Hah. But, don't get me wrong, we're only complete teenage girls half of the time. The rest of the time, they're both pretty deep people. I slep over the one's house and we stayed up late (and I mean until four a.m.) just talking about all the serious stuff on our minds, it was insane. It was everything I had really ever wanted to discuss seriously. We've been friends for, what, all of four months, and yet... I feel as if we've known each other forever.

Gryph, I'm really happy you have a friend like that too! They're really cool to talk to.

            *huggles music*

Hungry: I'm flattered that you think of me as an online bff! haha

Eric! I'm a little upset! "Some of the "oldbies" are pretty irritable towards new people, even if the new person asks a question that they had absolutely no way of knowing beforehand." *pouts* Now, that's not cool. Speaking as an almost-olbie, that hurts! Besides, I think that'll give them a bad impression of people on the site, and force them to be mistrustful of everyone. We're not really mean people. A lot of times, we're just irratable teenagers +, but I mean...you can't blame us. Things get...stressful. You'll see.

Rhi: Ouch! I understand that....completely. I actually think I may have the same cold (or similar, at least). Huhn. Drink lots of chamomile tea, but with nothing in it but honey. And eat a spoon of honey before you go to bed. It seriously helps your throat. Heh, I have....twelve performances in the next fourteen days...fun. But I think I'll be okay. Your voice won't heal completely for a while, but it'll help aid it, anyway. :P Good luck with everything!

Emi: Good luck with your upcoming games!!

Wolfie (haha): I don't think it's a question of Hungry's nickname sticking, I think it's a matter of persistence....hahaha. I won't even think to mention a certain Skitty....*eyeroll* I promise, haha. But, I seriously can't imagine calling her Seabiscuit. I can hardly spell it! (and I'm an okay speller!)

So, New York. Was fun, actually. In the museum, I sort of spazzed at a couple of exhibits (you know, the armor one *drool*, some of the oil paintings...) though I got really sick of a few (the Greek ones, mostly 'cause I got really sick of naked people!). I wish we could've gone to our own things, but we had to go where the Italian teacher told us, in a huge mass (grr...). But, anyway. By the time we got out of the museum (1:30, about, I think) everyone was _starving_ (most of us hadn't eaten since about 5 that morning when we all woke up) so we went to Dave & Busters. On the way we saw the naked cowboy!! It was exciting, :P And then we ate...but I actually think that was the best part 'cause we got to spend it with our friends, and it was like two hours of eating, resting our laurels, and laughing. My two friends (one of which was over today) and I were sitting across from these two seniors who we know. They were _hilarious_. One is nicknamed the Paparrazzi 'cause she takes so many pictures, and she was having fun with the camera.....= some really, really funny pictures.

Then we boarded the bus and started home, only stopping at a rest stop for like a half an hour. That's a good thing, though, 'cause my friend got a starbucks peppermint coffee (and let me have a coupla sips) which is _really_ good 'cause I had a concert as soon as we got back at school.

So, after seeing "Just Friends" for the second time on the bus, we got back to the school. Me and another girl got changed in the bathroom, and got ready for the concert. It was really cool (even though we were labeled as "guests" in our own chapel). We and two other choruses ended the evening with Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. It was so amazing.... my head was ringing as I sang. It was excellllllent! And I got to sing the good part, Soprano 1. Much fun!

So, I think that's pretty much it.

Oh yeah, we just got our Christmas tree! Excitingggggg.........!

Now onto biology, + decorating. However that works out. :P

            Much love,
            Mel

And I thought if you would call her seabiscuit, then you whould call her by her real username- seaiscuit1009. Armor exibits are the best in the museums, so I think I can see why anyone would be spazing out about that. *Frowns, and then growls as is custom of wolves* If people are going to call me wolfy, then spell it with a Y, OK?*coughs*Mel*coughs*. Anyways, everything is pretty much the same for me- procrastinating, watching anime, playing video games, being on the forums, listening to the Japanese song "Colors of the Heart" by UVERworld... Oh and this is the one different thing that happened, besides going to my grandparents' house for supper-it's whited out for those of you that don't like gross things:
My cat just threw up again. Then he started eating it *disgusted face*. I asked my dad to clean it before Strype ate it, but he said "it'll be less work for me if he cleans it up himself". That's the second time this happened. It's like déja vu, except I know that it's different.

Your cat is kind of disgusting. Deja vu is when something seems that way, by the way, and what you were experiencing was probably like seeing your cat do the same thing again.
(Just a hint in case you didn't know what Deja Vu was)

                  • 'Course I know what it means! I live in a french province. I learn french at school. I hear french canadians all the time. vashmat is a really bad nickname. You could try Shmata, although then I'd be embarrassed greatly, because it means "rag" in Yiddish. Some of my friend call me Hippy at school, though I really don't know why. I don't act like one, and I've never said anything for them to call me that. Then there are kids in the older grades, who call me "Candyman's brother" or "candyman". That's cause my bro sold candies at school, and I'm taking on his legacy. Don't worry, what we do isn't illegal, we made sure. And if it was, we'd be in prison by now.*not sure what look to make*
And is it just me, or am I currently one of the most active people on the forums?

If you really know what it means, then why did you say that it was like Deja Vu, even though it wasn't? I was brainstorming when I said Vashmat, and it's supposed to be a stupid nickname. Anyway, Shmata is better.

People who are irritable towards newbies know who they are.

Looking back at some of my experiences with the "oldbies", I realize their reason for explaining rules and saying I'm wrong and some things.... They're only trying to help themselves, me, and the admins out, and there's nothing wrong with that. But sometimes they went too far and they were irritable, and I don't like needing to experience that. Know what I mean?

I still agree with Mel. I think that how it is worded it will give a bad impression of anyone who's been at the site for a while. It makes people afraid of those on the site making it less likely for them to actually participate. It also offends people who are oldbies or even just midbies. It makes you look like you don't agree with anyone who's been here for a while. In general it doesn't seem at all appropriate. Yes, there are situations where people don't do the best thing, but they're looking out for the best of the forum just like you are sometimes. I think its against your goal to say that in that message. People aren't perfect, that doesn't mean you should scare others away.

You're actually sometimes irritating in the same way probably. It doesn't mean what you're doing is a bad thing. Think about that. The only part of the message I really disagree with is that. I'm not sure if in my opnion sending out that is a good idea, but that's me, and not everyone. I don't think that you should say that some oldbies are a pain though. And that is absolute.

Do you see the point of Mel and me at least? It's not that us personally think that we're being annoying and want to be able to be so. It's that we think that it causes other problems.
We will remember you PM. And your little GingerBear.

                          • Eric, I disagree with you saying that some oldbies were irritable with newbies. (I'm really not trying to be rude, so just hear me out, since I do have a point.) As a rule, oldbies try their hardest to welcome newbies, and gently tell them what the rules are when they break them. Or steer them in the direction of the board FAQs, if it comes to that. Lately, I'll admit it, we've had a lot of newbies who don't always act the way we did when we were newbies (we being the oldbies) and that throws a curve into the way we treat people; basically, we're not sure how to handle it sometimes, and the way we used to handle problems (by giving suggestions) keeps getting us yelled at by newbies, which is kind of rude. Try and see it from our perspective. With the recent influx of newbies, the boards have changed a lot from when I first joined, and I can't imagine how much they've changed since people like Garrett have joined (he's one of the original 100 members, if I remember correctly.) What I'm saying: cut us some slack. We're used to the boards being one way, and you and other newbies are making them run another way. I'm not saying that everything that's changed has been bad changes; I'm just saying that they're different. And now I sound like one of those irritable oldbies that supposedly exist, but which I've never seen! Maybe we're like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster...*ponders*

Urgh...I can't have an entire negative post. What's happened...we put up our Christmas tree yesterday. Fun stuff; we have so many ornaments it's ridiculous, since my dad worked at a store that sold a lot of Christmas ornaments for 14 years, and is still friends with the owners. It's kind of crazy; I remember the year it fell over and we lost a lot of glass ornaments. Very sad, but that's not going to happen again because we've got a better tree stand.

On Saturday we got this crazy new cable thing (except I don't think it's actually cable, I think it's something else that I don't know the name of) that has 400 channels or something. I don't know what I'm going to do with 400 channels; I don't watch enough tv to require 400 channels.

It's kind of weird to realize that after Christmas break, I won't be in any of the same classrooms anymore. I did tell you guys that half my school building is being closed to be redone? Well, it is, and it so happens that all my classes are currently in the half being redone. All the teachers are packing up stuff, and my Latin class is trying to see if we can bring in a chain saw to cut down part of the wall that has this awesome mural painted on it. I don't know, I think it'd be fun to take a chainsaw to the school building for a good cause like saving a work of art! All of a sudden there's so much graffitti in the bathrooms, since everyone knows that the bathrooms are all going to be gutted, so it doesn't matter how trashed they get. In fact, that entire half of the school is kind of getting trashed. It's funny, but sad as well.

I hope it snows again soon. The last snow all melted away over the weekend, and I can see all the dead leaves on the ground again. Wait, forget that: if I could have one wish right now, I'd wish that the next week and 2 days before break go by fast, so I can just get to break already. We have an early break this year, because of construction.

Edit: Tuttle posted while I was writing this. I agree with everything she says.

                            Comment

                            • I just think I'm going to drop the whole welcome letter thing, then.... You "oldbies" can deal with the confused and rule-breaking newbies. Now that I think about it, I shouldn't exert myself to the point of sending these messages, answering a bunch of questions, keeping track of how long a member didn't respond to them, and keeping track of which ones to delete when either they've served their purpose or they weren't responded to....

OK, last night my dad and I were driving home and my road was total ice. It was just one big sheet of it. We started sliding around immediately when we pulled into our road (*Mutters* Japanese cars!!). It was the same this morning. There was a 90 minute delay. My dad's alarm didn't go off, and I had about three minutes to get out of bed, get dressed, brush my teeth, and get out of the house. It didn't happen. So, typical of my dad, RIGHT as I was getting my coat on, he said "Forget it, just stay home." He made me get up and rush around like a squirrel the day before a storm for nothing. He called our neighbor and said that we weren't going out and that we wouldn't be picking up his son like we usually do today. He offered to drive me, and we took his Cadillac, which did perfectly fine on the road. (JAPANESE CARS!!) So I did end up making it to school.

This afternoon, we had a sub bus a gain. My bus driver said that our regular bus broke down. Our primary sub, bus six, broke down. And so did the secondary sub, bus one, all in one morning. I was like, "Come on, every time something interesting happens, I'm not on the bus!" This morning, when all that happened, I wasn't on, and last Wednesday when the bus broke in the middle of the run, I wasn't on. My bus driver is now called "The Bus Killer" by her coworkers. Maybe that's why they're not wasting money and giving her a new bus. We ended up using bus twelve today, the one she asked for because of space issues with our regular bus. In some ways, twelve is great, and in some ways (only for the driver, really) it's dreadful. But I like it.... Our regular bus makes a horrible snapping noise that vibrates the floor whenever we take sharp turns, and it really scares me... I think the bus is about to break in half. Bus twelve's frame is nice and quiet and sturdy-feeling.

                              • Eric you got to calm down a bit on that letter thing. We said everything was fine except for that "oldbie" part. It's nice that your taking your time in educating all the newbies and stuff. Hats off to you, because I don't think I'd be able to do that. I don't want to sound rude or mean or anything but just take a breather and listen to them.

We had a two hour delay this morning, which I am grateful for! Then on Wednesday we have a two hour delay just because we do. Thursday we're supposed to get a snow storm so it might be a snow day and Friday I don't know. I love New England weather.

Alrighty I just wanted to check up on here, didn't really think I was going to post but whatever. I have to go because I'm going to put my brain to use and write that essay I was supposed to write like over the weekend.
