No looking sad in the forums. *gets a bunch of clowns to come and cheer everyone up* or really creep people out, which can be just as funny and generate as much laughs...
I probably am not going to see the movie. *sighs and disobays everything i said by being sad* i hate when they mess up books i like...oh well. *goes and posts some more, with newly restored happiness*

The movie..was ok.; There were a few things I liked and disliked about it. I liked how Carvahall looked, but I really really did not like how quickly the movie progressed. It seemed as if it took place in a day. I also loved the flying scenes!!

ok, kinda off the eragon subject, but once, i said a spell that was supposed to make dragons watch over you for a week, and for the next week, there was a big dragon-shaped kite in the
sky right above my house! (as if it were watching me) Oh, and the movie Eragon was ok, but i didn't like it that much. I'll just stick to reading the books.

Personally, I thought that Paolini is a fair writer, with no ideas of his own.

If you run a charactor analysis, he has all of the stereotypical characters, and he uses this as a cruch(sp?) so that he needn't do any character development.

The plot was unbelievably close to Star Wars.

So then, how does Paolini capture the attemtion of millions of fans worldwide?

easy, people love reading about the classic story. doesn't even need to be good.

People love the star wars plot, it is an ideal of good versus the overpowering evil.

i haven't seen it yet, and probably won't until its on tv, but i heard they cut out entire races...i hope they don't do such a bad job on blood and chocolate...it was a weird book, but a good one, and i can't resist movies made from books.
*sighs* i hate it when people gut an entire book, change it completely, give a couple of tehm characters names from the books, and give the movie the same name as it JUST TO GET PEOPLE TO SEE IT! i mean, why not just change the name? does it ever occure to them, that people might just like the movie better if it wasn't named after a book they loved? i mean, as far as i can tell, it wasn't the storie of eragon's movie that was bad...it was the fact that they had changed the book. if they had just called it something ELSE people might have enjoyed it a lot more!
oh, and mel...after your saying that you thought the movie was ok...i suggest you duck.

I've never liked star wars. It always seemed too...oh, I don't know I always just thought it sucked. I'm not trying to get mobbed here, but I think that Eragon is better than Star Wars.

of course it is. everything follows plots that were laid before it at this point, young wizards, harry potter, lord of the rings...everything.
its just a matter of weather its obvious or not...

That's not true! Not EVERYTHING has been done! true, people often copy other people's ideas, but then there are some who don't. I, for instance, can write something completely different with a completely different plotline. Something creative and totally origional.

Things like that are what kills the avant garde movement. DON'T KILL THE AVANTE GARDE MOVEMENT!!!

i'm afraid everything HAS been done...you may not have actually SEEN it before, and some of the details may be unique, but all basic plot lines have probably been done before, if only by some obscure writer, from hundreds of years ago, who never bothered to actualy write it down...
my basic point is simply that things shouldn't be judged by weather the plot has been done before, but by weather or not the writer is good at writing it, and whether or not they include things unique to them, in order to make it something that's just...theirs.

a plotline that no one has thought of doing before: after the destruction of the entire human race, wolves take over has the most inteligent species. A young wolf, Puck, decides to live as a dog (an inferior species) to learn how other species veiw wolves. There. completely unique. How do I know that it is unique? Simply because I made it, and I am unique.

chances are though, someone, in the history of time, has thought of something along those lines before...
but my basic point is just that there are too MANY repeating plots to constantly worry about whether its been done before, even if there ARE still things that are unique out there...
particularly considering the fact that said things are usually unique because noboddy wants to read them, so no one wants to write them...
