  • Cress, I dunno. Conflating the first three books actually makes some sense to me, given the amount of repetition in what happens in the books. Plus, do you really think they'd do a series of 13 movies for the books? Much more reasonable to assume maybe 3 or 4, tops.

I don't mind Jim Carrey as much, but if he bugs you consider that on the flip side, you've got Meryl Streep and John Cleese in the cast as well. Not to mention the dulcet tones of Jude Law as the voice of Lemony Snicket.

    • Yay! DDR is SSSSSOOOOOOOOOO fun. I did it for the first time yesterday, and I sucked, but it was still fun. I just think the Princess Diaries books look almost as overrated as Harry Potter. If it's possible for anything to be as overrated as Harry Potter.

      • Z, I saw the movie poster for Princess Diaries 2, there was a poodle on it, was that supposed to be Rommel? I thought Rommel was bald and Fat Loui is supposed to be orange, not black and white.

I have read Running out of Time, and it was really good, but I haven't seen The Village.

ooohh, I wanna see Finding Neverland, it sounds really interesting.

I don't want to watch a Cinderella Story, it sounds very very stupid.

        • Maybe your right about Series of Unfortunate Events, but seriously, putting three books into one movie? Isn't that a bit much? I only saw Cinderella story to laugh at it. And it was funny.

blah... The Series of Unfortnate Events are too depressing, I mean on the back of every book the guy is telling you NOT to read the book... Maybe I'm taking that too literally because I know he doesn't mean that but still... And his real name isn't even Lemony Snicket!
Jim Carrey rocks!! I like the funny guys, ROBIN WILLIAMS!!!

            • I agree. The series of unfortunate events are very depressing. The first book was so sad. I don't like sad bookss. Stuff that's too depressing is just not fun to read. Like the 5th YW book. It made me cry in class. I would've stopped the series if it wasn't so good.

                • Ah! Jim Carrey *throws up in the corner* Sorry, I really don't like Jim Carrey. And lots of authors don't go by their real names, like Mark Twain. And it was joking when it said to stop reading. I thought they were funny, and if u don't get way too into them, they aren't that depressing.

                  • Shoot. That reminds me. I need to find Califia's Daughters. Laurie R. King is using the pen name "Lee Richards," because she's hopped genres from Mystery to SF.

Movies: Zatoichi's finally opening in arthouse release here, Hero's got its limited opening, and next week Warrios of Heaven and Earth... all the Asian sword-fighting flicks I could want...

And only three more weeks until Sky Captain and Silver City...

Tui (if you're reading this) have you seen Her Majesty? The trailer looked interesting. And it looks like a US release is happening soon.

                    • Hmm... actually, I haven't even heard of it! Which is... kinda strange, and suggests to me that it's being released in the States first, probably because the director isn't a Kiwi. *examines site* Oh, yeah, it looks like it maybe showed at the NZFF, and I would have missed it; it was possibly sold out anyway, or maybe I just skimmed past it in the book... Anyway, it will hopefully come out here eventually, 'cause it looks kinda sweet.

                      • Ah. That clarifies. Yeah, it sounds like maybe one of the US studios may be trying to manufacture another hit-like-Whale-Rider... I just got fooled by the IMDb saying the date of the film's initial release was 2001 into thinking it was a Kiwi product.

                        • Sky Captain? I realy didn't think that looked very good. I saw Shrek 2 again today. It's so cute. I would've seen something I hadn't seen before, but my mom doesn't particularly like any of the stuff that I do, and I got my dosage of chick flickiness at the sleepover on Wednesday. Four chick flicks in a row, lots of sugar, and not sleeping till 7 in the morning makes me really hyper for some strange reason. Probably the sugar and the chick flicks.

                            • Thank you, kli, for the heads-up on Laurie R. King's pen name. I like her mysteries; we'll see how she does on SF.

Hero is this week's movie pick. I've heard good things about it. I did not bother going to see Manchurian Candidate or Catwoman; I wanted to conserve what few operational brain cells I have for school.

                              • I wasted six dollars today to see Princes Diaries 2. It actually made me laugh when it was supposed to. I liked it. It completely surprised me that I liked it. I must have lost the few marbles I had left. NOOOOO I liked the shiny green one. And the black one. So dark, and pretty. Pretty, pretty, sorry, but look what that movie has done to me!
