Z-considered doing something with newspapers? They're non-fiction...you could read a newspaper then make your own about your school, town, etc...

Luthien-Okay, Macbeth is the BEST Shakespere drama play ever written so anything to do with that is cool. I've seen some interesting clay-mation versions of that. Twelth Knight is a very good comedy with lots of mistaken identity. If you do something with either of those, make sure that you buy the clif notes to go with them. Otherwise you will have difficulty with the text.
Annother interesting project would be to look at West Side Story, which is basically a modern version of Romeo and Juliet in musical form. Very good musical and very fun to watch.

Oh...and my dress looks nothing like what I thought it would. I ended up with this really pretty big ball gown in emerald green with a black sash...I'm still considering a big cloak with the lothlorien broach....Thoughts? Comments? Accusations that I'm a nutcase?

Oh...and my friend just pointed out that I'm going to winter formal with the wrong guy...I should be going with Aragorn... ...oh well...my date's nice...

Luthien, I don't know myself which would be the best one to do, but in terms of modern interpretation, Romeo and Juliet would be the one- it's the most famous, a lot's been done with it, you could contrast traditional (ie Zeffirelli) interpretations with modern/individual interpretations (Luhrman) with various stagings (no idea) with re-tellings (West Side Story)- all that jazz.

Zgirl: I don't know. Maybe do it on a writer and then do a nice presentation of part of his/her work- you could make an illustrated book our of a poem, or read from a chapter and do a poster explaining it to go along with it, and include, I don't know, a short summary of his/her life and how this is representative of what they wrote/important to them/influential? I don't know.

Firewitch: sounds lovely. And definitely go for the broach- if you're planning on wearing the cloak at the dance at all, it'll get in the way, but if you're planning on leaving it with your bag, again, go for it.
I know, isn't it a shame about Aragorn??

Zgirl: Origami? fun, cheap, and easy to find information on.

Luthien: How about the parallels between "Hamlet" and "The Lion King"?

FireWitch: I'd nix the cloak idea. Don't know how your formal's going to be set up, but at the last one I went to I had a simple little wrap and I spent most of the night just trying to find somewhere to put the bloody thing down so I didn't have to resort to tying it around my waist (I think I eventually balled it up and stuffed it in my purse). If you're not sure that there's going to be an easily-accessible place to put it (or you're mildly paranoid about just leaving a handmade item lying around somewhere -- I know I will be when I finish the Renn Faire costume I'm making!), it'll just be an added stress.

I'll second that. I left mine on my chair (it was a school ball, reasonably thief-less we hope) and the tassles at the end ended up hopelessly knotted about. Not a good thing. Mmm, the same thing goes for handbags, except you really do need to tkae one (or so I thought.)

Speaking as someone who has been to zero formal school dances...I really have no clue what I would wear. Thinking about it, I would agree with the others to not wear a cloak unless you know there's a place to hang cloaks, which there definately isn't in my school. Maybe there is in your school though. If you do wear it, definately go with the brooch. That would be so cool. And of course you're not a nutcase! No more than the rest of us are...

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. Hm...now I need to figure out what to do with them.

Zgirl, I would read an autobiography and do a character analysis. But that's just me.....
Dresses are a nuisance. I never wear them ever ever. If it's a fancy event besides proms and that, I wear suits. Maybe MAYBE a skirt. but suits. I love them...

                Good Luck!

This is a very random question... Does anyone here have a snake or lizard for a pet? I have a leopard gecko and most of my friends think it's really gross.(Except for my BFF who owns a newt.)

Hmmm....can't say that I do. Just faithful Eno here, who is a lizard, I guess. But he's more a fire demon, virtual thing, so I can't say yes. But I'm glad I don't have to ask for dress advice! It's confusing. Seriously--note the lack of men in here!

My brother has a leopard gecko!! Three actually. Spot, Roxie, and Dot. Not very creative I know.. But neither is he. But I named Roxie. She looks like she has eyeshadow, I was 10 and I don't know why I thought that had to do with Roxie... *shrugs*
That's scary. We have LOTS in common..... aranoid:

My leopard gecko's name is Sam. I got him last year. Mabye leopard gecko's are a MN thing. Because I know a bunch of people who have them. And there's a leogecko forum and a fourth of the people on there are from MN.

My friend's date to the Valentines Dance last year gave her a red tedy bear, and a guy STOLE it and was going to give it to his girlfriend when we found him and stopped him! She left it UNDER the table in hopes that no one would see it! HEHE! THE safest place for us to leave our stuff is in the back of the Caff. under the tray rack. That is where the girls put their shoes, just put your stuff behing your shoes and they are considered OFF LIMITS or safe. But I'm sure we are the only school out there that is like that, we're all weird! HEHE
