I have been blessed with four siblings.
I have also been cursed with four siblings.

Really, it's not that hard for me favoring-wise. My sister is REALLY popular (she's flirting with fifth graders while she's in fourth grade) but mom actually looks down on that. I fight with her a lot, and so does mom, and both my younger brothers. Big Bro doesn't tease as much, but Sis kinda gets picked on a lot. Mom gets mad cuz her clothes are too small, Sis only wears like four outfits, because "They're all she has," when in our reality, her drawers are stuffed, and Sis makes life difficult for all of us. She's CONSTANTLY holding us up. The other day, mom honked the horn for Sis, and we were like "She's already here" and later, Sis closed the door in Alien Boy (my younger brother, age 11)'s face and said "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm used to being the last one."

Yeah. She gets violent, and I get blamed. Alien Boy (Oh, I'm calling him that cuz he's really short and really weird - Sis is younger than him ((she's 9-almost-10)) and about two inches taller) is just weird. Example: We were being introduced to people at Steph's dinner party- "Hi, I'm Lisa" "Hi, I'm Sis (not real name)" and then, Alien Boy, waving with his pointer finger and middle finger to one side, and the ring finger and pinkie to the other, said "Hi, I'm out of this world." I nearly died. (Y'know what I'm talking about with the wave thing, right?) I get mad at him sometimes, but mostly cuz he's got a grudge against Sis. That's where most of the Sibling Rivalry stuff goes on- Sis, going into 5th grade, is taller, more popular, and easier to know than Alien, who is short, strange, and the middle child.
It's also hard for him because every one of us was accepted into center based GT - where you go to a different school cause you're smart - except him. We all turned it down, but poor Alien hasn't even been accepted into school-based GT. Luckily, he will be next year! His specialty is math, though, whereas the rest of us are more into Language Arts/ English or generally genius. But he's brilliant. When he was three and four, he would build spectacular Legos - The little kinds, entirely symmetrical, including the colours, without directions. Plus, he can understand the Pythagorean Theorum at age 11, so he's cool. (Cutie's only 8 and he gets it, but that's another story.) He has to live up to me, the teacher's pet with top grades, and worse, he has to live up to his younger sibs so they don't outshine him. That's the harsh-ness of being middle child.

Cutie is my youngest brother. If he finds out I'm calling him that, he'll either throw a fit or hug me. He's really random and mood-swingy, but he's the most adorable kid. He's going into 4th grade, and he's 8, almost 9. He's the complete baby of the family, and he acts it. He's kinda popular, but I don't really know. All I know is he's got a mischievous streak in him. He's my kind of smart-- the general know-it-all kid, real mature for his age. (I told you he was mood-swingy. Half the time he's a baby, the other half he's an adult.) I don't know as much about him as the other two. Sis likes drawing, and copies me at all times (she suddenly became a writer as soon as I expressed interest in writing), Alien is the one with the organized brain, and the peaceful middle child, except for when he's angry (he scratched Cutie's arm badly today. I got mad.) But Cutie is just that: Cute. He doesn't like reading, apparently, but he's fast at it. He goes outside with Sis, but often stays in with Alien and the video games. He's like the best of us rolled into one. And the worst, sometimes. People often mistake him and Alien (or him and Sis, or Sis and Alien, or all three of them) as twins or triplets.

Favouritism:
Sis is the "problem child," and the "parent's pet." She gets in trouble half the time, and the other half is mom's right hand.
Alien is quiet and calm. He keeps to himself, but helps out as often as possible.
Cutie is, I fear, going to be the ONE. The ONE that the other sibs are jealous of because he gets all the attention. I'll be out of high school, and he'll be just starting. Yeah...he'll be the favorite.
Lisa is the brain, the recluse on her computer. Mom depends on me a lot, more than Big Bro I think, because he's often at work. I've become the mini-mom, and equal more than a kid, and because of dad leaving I've had to help be parent. Unless I become the "rebellious teen." Mom gets it into her head that I'm going to be one of the girls with skirts above their wrists (school rule is students have to wear shorts/skirts that reach beyond their fingertips), and tons of make-up, and hates the world, and hates the parents...just the general stereotype of teens. I'm not. I'm the girl with "Catch the Reading Wave" t-shirts, her nose in a book, and weird, unmatching shorts that reach at least three inches past my fingers. (Gasp! So uncool!)

Why is it that the oldest siblings turn into book-reading, uncool, socially inept, completely outcast freaks?

Big Bro. I've saved him for last, because he's different. I consider him my best brother. We don't fight at all. When we do, it's because he wants to know why I'm angry at someone else. He's so caring and sweet...and unsocial...but that's something else. The others don't think of him as just a brother, I think. He's kind of become their other dad. He's the one who gives us allowance, he plays video games with us, he tells us cool stories from work. My brothers call him the "Almighty Video Game Master Big Bro (name replaced) Bow." And yes, they actually say bow. As in, they bow down to him while saying bow. Kinda freaky. The age difference has something to do with it, I guess. He celebrated his 22 birthday July 3. He's 8 years older than me, ten years older than Alien, and so on. I'm closest to him in age, obviously, so I think we're closest to each other, because I'm really mentally mature for my age. As I said in a discussion with my English class, it doesn't matter who your real parents are, you pick up your interests from those around you who set examples. Dad's not around, so I have Big Bro, and I read Big Bro's books, not dad's. It's that simple. He's oldest, so he's the best, from a sib's point of view.

The thing that annoys me most about Sis is her constant asking me for help. She comes in my room at night, during my ONLY private time, and bugs me. Since I yelled at her, she's slowed it down, but it took five tries to explain to her that I don't know anything about earrings, so don't ask me. I've never had my ears pierced, so I can't help her take hers out or put them in! Gah.

End rant.

I have 2 sisters, and I am the middle child. We have a complicated relationship, but I'll try to explain a few things.

Amy is my older sis that is 24. She moved out earlier this year and got her own apartment, and she's constantly hanging out with her BF. I don't mind that too much, usually, b/c they fit really well together, and they're going to get married eventually. (His parents say he can't get married until he graduates college, which is 2 more years I think.) The only problem with her spending a lot of time with him is that she doesn't spend a whole lot of time with me or my other sis (who'll I'll be getting to in a moment). Sometimes on the weekend I can go to her house or maybe her boyfriends house with her and watch a movie or two, and also we are in the same Sunday school and I sit with her in church, but that is usually the extent of our hanging around each other. Before she moved out, we had a more complicated relationship. Sometimes she was really cool and we did things together, and other times we were fighting and yelling at each other. She could be really cool and I could tell her things, but other times she could be a real backstabber and I would wish there was something I hadn't told her. Now, since we don't see a lot of each other, it's a bit better b/c we don't fight and there's usually only the cool part of the relationship to deal with.

Kelly is my younger sis who is 17. Her relationship is even more complicated. Sometimes she is cool and we do things and get along together, but most of the time we are at each other's throats. She is mom's pet and she hardly gets in trouble. She is supremely annoying most of the time, whether she spies and/or tattles, or if she starts a fight and blames it on me and gets away with it...she's also the kind of person that when we get into a physical fight she always has marks and I hardly ever have marks that stay for more than a few minutes. My mom is always mad at me b/c she says that I'm this big strong brute and Kelly's this weak little thing and I shouldn't beat up on her. THAT LITTLE THING CAN HIT REALLY HARD. Sure I'm stronger than her and sometimes I might get a bit carried away, but 9 times out of 10 she starts it. Also, she's just like my mom religiously, so basically she thinks a lot of things I like are bad. She thinks YW is witchcraft, and she says I'm turning into a heathen. I suppose I am by their standards, but then everyone here would be, even if you just were ever INTERESTED in YW. *shakes head* Sometimes mom and Kelly can be downright nuts. Kelly does have some good parts too, though. She can sing and play the guitar and she's a REALLY good artist, and she's usually a good companion to play video games with. With video games, usually it goes like this: she plays and I show her what to do or where to go. I'm the strategist, she's the one that holds the controller. It usually works best that way. Of course, sometimes I want to play things myself, and I'm usually pretty good at it. But when Kelly steps in to play and she gets the hang of it, she is usually a lot better than I am, with very few exceptions.

Since this is the siblings topic, I'm going to refrain from talking too much about my parents. I am going to mention my general living arrangements. During the school year I am away at college and Kelly lives with my mom and Amy has her own apartment and my dad lived in Alabama and sometimes comes to visit either of us (he can't do both in the same day though). During the summer, like now, it's almost the same except I am at home with mom and Kelly and my dad comes around almost every Saturday to visit.

So anyway, there you have it. *wanders off*

Good god you people analyze your relationships too much. I have NO idea what my bro and I are like. We're starting to be friends a bit more now, but we're three years apart, so he's in High School and has decided that anything involving his family is "uncool", so he NEVER hangs out with us. I on the other hand, am quite happy going to movies and hanging with my parental figures whenever they're around. I play badminton and Monopoly with my family.
We tease eachother a little bit, but mostly we gang up on my dad. He has a girlfriend, and sadly I'm not allowed to tease about that, or I'd spend my entire life going around after them making a little frame out of my fingers and saying "Kodac moment".

I've got one brother and a sister in law... Growing up my brother and I were enemies and constant companions. Consequences of growing up in the country, if we wanted anyone to play with at all we had to play with each other. My brother is older than me so I usually had to play what ganes he wanted to play. As much as he annoyed me as a kid, he always stood up for me, especially with the ginormous bully who took great offence at my reading habit. Now that we're older (and he's married with two kids) we get along great, weekly phone calls and I try an visit as often as possible. I love my nephews and his wife. I guess we got rid of our rivalry fairly early as w're both in our twenties now. Honestly, as family goes, I've been blessed.

((How pathetic is it that I've been a member of these forums for two years and have only managed like 2 posts!))

I've got a total of four brothers and three sisters and am the second oldest and oldest girl. It sounds like most of you are in school; you may have a little different perspective on your siblings when you're older.

Three of my siblings are married now, with another sister getting married this weekend. I haven't always agreed with some of their decisions, but our parents (particularly our Mom) were pretty strict when we were young about talking problems out and actually hitting was pretty rare. We didn't have enough space many times to learn to want it until we were older; there were just things we had to do. So we still have spats (and even huge disagreements) but we still manage to get together and play together pretty well, I'd say.

Unfortunately, your siblings won't always be around. Little things you do, like going out to a movie and talking about neutral subjects, are so important. I wish I could have had better communication with some of my siblings when they were making certain choices, and now well...they're out on their own and have their own ideas. But I love them dearly and they're some of my best friends. If your siblings are jerks, unfortunately there's a limited amount you can do about that. What can be done for them is largely your parents' job. But do what you can without putting yourself in a bad position; we as siblings can make it easier sometimes for our siblings to be nice.

Anyway...have a great day!
I solemnly swear I am up to no good...

Fortunately enough, I get along quite well with my only sibling, my younger brother. When we were younger we had our fair share of fist fights and what not over silly things, but we outgrew them over time. By the time I was in highschool, I started to see him as more than a sibling, I wanted him to succeed where I had failed, and I knew where I had made mistakes in the past, and since my brother was following a path similar to mine, I could correct him. He did in many ways achieve more than I did, and my parents pushed him harder as a result. In the end, however, I think we're both better off as a result.

Of course, my parents had some role to play in this as well, my dad in particular. He made a point to make sure that we got along well, and did so because of his experiences with his siblings that he related to me and my brother. You see, my dad and some of his brothers didn't get along well as kids, and unfortunately, this animosity stayed with them as they grew older into the adults they are now. This enmity has had its consequences. For one thing, my dad and his uncles were never able to achieve as much as they could have had they worked together (at the very least things life became more difficult). It's also very hard emotionally, for some of my cousins think that I, my brother and parents are bad people and try to avoid us, even though it's not true, and they should beable to realize this. So you can see why my dad was particularly keen on making sure my and brother got along well.

My point is, your siblings are closer to you in many ways that any of your friends, and later in life, you want them to be there for you if necessary, and you should be willing to do the same. If you don't get along well with them, it's probably a good idea to try and make up (and the earlier the better) at least that way it'll be easier to avoid problems in the future.

I never got along with my older two sisters too well, and now we're all adults we're really disconnected and have very little in common. They live in the UK while I've stayed in NZ, so I simply don't think about them much, and vice versa I guess. Still, I'm not overly bothered. It's no big deal these days with the physical distance.

However, I know a big part of why I enjoy YW so much is the rather abnormally good and mature relationship between Nita and Kit. It's a wonderful ideal - a deep, meaningful platonic relationship at that age. Given I was lucky to have _any_ friends of either sex when I was in college (i.e. high school), but got along better with girls than I did other guys, I'd have given anything for a Nita/Kit type relationship. Of course, I would not have been as mature and well adjusted as either of them, so it may have been an impossible dream.

I have one sibling: a younger sister(she's 12). There's a 4 1/2 year difference, so it's a bit of a gap(at least to me.) I love her to death--I would do just about anything for her, if she needed it.

Yet somehow we can't get along. It almost doesn't seem like she's bothered by it--in fact, I think that she thinks it's okay to get into huge fights. But...can anyone else attest to the fact...that it hurts?

...does anyone else want/need to cry when someone you love, tells you that they hate you? That they DO NOT want you as a friend? That they'd rather watch TV 24/7 instead of talking things out?....maybe I'm just a weirdo for hurting badly about my sister. It just hurts to love someone so much and have them get so angry at you for the smallest things.

Siblings can be both a blessing and a curse. It really does depend on how you all get along, and how you all treat each other.

I, unfortunately, only have one brother who is younger. While I am a junior in college, he is a Senior in High school (or for those that go by numbers, he is in the 12th grade).

During my childhood, my brother and I were like cats and dogs. We could not agree on one specific point at all, and you would never see us getting along. We bickered, fought, squabbled, and god knows what else to each other. It was not that we did not like each other; it was that we disagreed on many different points, and when you are a child, you feel that the way you see things are the correct way.

But as time goes by, as it always does, things started to change between both of us. But in order to understand that, you have to know a little history about us two.

When we were younger, my brother contracted this disease called Purthies desires (I am sure that I butchered that spelling). Basically, what it does is block the blood vestals that flow through your bones and give them nutrients. Because the blood vestals were blocked (clogged if you will), his bones were not getting the nutrients that they needed, so his bone was week, and started to disintegrate. By the time the doctors found out about it, his entire hip bone, the part that connects his leg bone to his thigh bone was, instead of a ball like it was suppose to be, flat as a disk.

That does not seem like a bad thing at all, when you first hear about it, but since his bone was flat, it was not connected to his thigh in anyway, so it was at a high risk of being pulled out of socket, and never being put back into its proper place again.

There were many things that had to be made in order to keep his bone where it was and not have anything happen. All sports activities that he partook in was squandered, he had to quit every spot he played (which was most of them). He also had to move to a smaller school so that he did not have to walk too far from one room to the other. And, he could not partake in the gymnasium activities.

That was a real downfall for him, for sports was his life, and I, for all my stupidity and narrow-mindedness saw that. He was not happy with the way things happened, so I did the only thing I could do; I moved with him to the new school. Loosing all my friends, most of whom I do not even know anymore, I went with him to this new school.

Considering how he could not partake in any activities (basically), he was forced to go to the Computer Labs while the rest went out to play or went to the gym or Field Day, or any other activity deal. In order to keep him company and not be lonely, I as well did the same thing.

As time moved on, we started to find out that computers were actually interesting. We both had our own specialties, me with the software part (like programs and running things), and my brother with the hardware (the making and fixing of them). We had finally found the one thing that we both agree on and could both relate too.

You could say that it took the devastation of one event to bring us closer, and I would agree with you on that. As the years passed on, and I moved to high school (while my bro stayed in his school), the doctors told him that was making a grand recovery and could start sports again if he wanted too. While he was happy about that, it had been several years since he did anything of that sort, and was really rusty, but he was a computer genius, and we both knew what he was going to end up doing.

first off, i would like to say, wow,Gibby. that was nice of you to stay with your brother..
and to Angel, no, you're not alone. I have an older brother who's basically a jerk a lot of the time, but i know he's a good person..i don't know a lot about him, which is sorta sad... and i want to, but theres age difference, gender difference, almost everything difference

ok, how do i get along with my siblings?
i have two older brothers (Almost 16 and almost 18), which, of course, means I'm the youngest. now to hungry and kaiba, and whoever else is the oldest child, a lot of the time it sucks for you. but you have to take in our perspective. I was not only the youngest of my family, i was the youngest of all my cousins at one time, so, naturally, you get picked on. a lot. My oldest brother and I used to be distant. really distant. i mean, there is a 6 year gap, which is enough to not talk. we generally didnt talk, but whenever my other brother got into fights with me, he either fought him off for me or let me get pummeled because i probly deserved it. but mostly fought for me. even my 5-year-old self felt gratitude for that. but recently, we've been getting along much better. he became my Sponser (for those who don't kno, a Sponsor is someone who supports the Candidate (the persone recieveing the sacrament) in a Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Faith known as Confirmation. Kinda confusing, isn't it?) So we became a little closer, and we can talk about books forever! that doesn't mean we don't get in fights, though...well, he's really strong, and i wouldn't be surprised if a few bruises are from him, but he's normally not a Berserker... normally..
and he's just like a little kid... currently, hes sitting downstairs with his girlfriend, friend, and friend's girlfriend whatching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Tomorrow i'll be hearing, "If you want to view paradise..."
besides that, he's pretty smart.

my other brother...hmm..he's the middle child. I think he has it off worse because, like hungry said, they have to live up to the oldest while setting a record for the youngest. and besides, my other brother and i dont get along with him generally very well. our common grettings are "Move, dork." "Good morning, idiot." and so on. but i think he's actually ok, when we're not fighting... its a love/hate relationship. he can be really funny, and i really like his girlfriend (she's really nice!!) but there are always fights...
and he's pretty smart too, smarter than my oldest brother, i think, but somehow, he doesn't filter that into his actions....

and then there comes the fact that my brothers are good-looking. (not my words; God no!) so everyone walks up to me in school and is like, "Hey, are you Ryan's sister? He is sooo HOT!!" and all you can do is nod your head, groan and try to forget about it...

and i definatley do not have their looks... (unfortunately)

so all in all, i guess i'm ok kwith my brothers. tho it still sux to have teachers giving you looks when they hear your brothers names. you can just hear them thinking ," Oh, God, not another sweeney! I just hope she doesn't get as many behavior slips as they did..."
just let your heart take over and sign with a flourish

I have a love-hate relationship w/ my sisters, especially the 16-yr-old one (I'm 17, and we're irish twins). She's the person I show all my writing to before anyone else, and I talk w/ her about her problems & mine, etc, but she's really touchy. And good at beating people up.
My other sister's 10 (almost 11,) and actually a stepsister so I don't see her all the time. But she's mostly like "I love you!" when I have the time (and inclination) to pay attention to her, and "I hate you!" when I don't.
Yeah.

I have six siblings, three older and three younger. The older ones I don`t see much, so I`m the "oldest" of us for most of the time. Of my older siblings I have a brother and two sisters. And of my younger siblings I have a brother and two sisters. I don`t get along with my younger brother (six) and sister(four), but my brother and I get into fights about everything. Not that he dosen`t deserve it. My littlest sister is almost two, and she is sooo cute!(Yes, my own words.) My brother and sister are insane about Neopets, and I`m not.I`m insane about Neopets! At least sort of.

I have an alien psycho sister. I'm not kidding! She's eleven but she acts about six. She shrieks- sometimes while running at top speed through the living room- she has her own language, and she's OBSESSED with the dog. Actually, just dogs in general, since if she sees any dog besides an ugly Chihuahua, she'll start squealing and doggy-voicing.
I'm cursed with an alien psychotic posing as my little sister. Plus, it makes very strange noises and doesn't always speak English.

I have two brothers. Whitney and Alex. One of them is a hyperactive chimp how seems to be eat ing a little TOO much candy, and the other is a cave troll who barley leaves his room, much less his computer. To all who have siblings I must say one thing. We are as much sibling to them as they are to us. Oh, and M.B.F., whitney is how I describe him, the whit you see is an illusion...
