Dai Stiho!
I'm 16. I only discovered the series a couple years ago, rummaging through my public library's kids section to find something to fill up my spare time...and now I'm hooked! It took me awhile to figure out how long ago SYWTBAW was published; at first I thought it was relatively new, then I checked the copyright date. But hey, it still reads well! Aside from Joanne making fun of Nita for not having a color TV...who doesn't have a color TV nowadays?
Don't even think about calling me a young whippersnapper ...sorry, I just hate that...

You must have been reading an old edition-the new ones change it to a "wide-screen TV". My long angry rant about this is somewhere around here...

You're not alone, man of limbo...I really don't care which version I have, because they both have to be the same, except for perhaps a few changed words here and there...but Canada STILL hasn't gotten any copies of A Wizard Alone.

Man of Limbo - there was a an "old" copy of SYWTBAW in the bargain stand at Angus & Robertsons in Nth Sydney a year or so ago. There's probably more hanging around the place. Galaxy might have some old stock, maybe.

It was the Corgi paperback edition, with the evil helicopter charging through the worldgate at Kit and Nita. Mine says it was published in Corgi in 91, so that's still 8 years after it was written. Does anyone know what the original cover looked like? I'm kinda curious...

I believe DD has a scan of the original Delacorte cover, which was done by David Wiesner (who picked up his first Newbery medal last year, if I'm not mistaken). I'll ask her if she can dig up a .jpg of it.

I guess it was an old copy...I think it's been in the library for a while, anyway. I'm here, so give me a second and I'll check...

No, I can't find it. Gotta run, neighbors just spotted Elvis making crop circles!

I still remember the cover of the version of SYWTBAW that I read, and I believe it was the original edition. The picture features Kit standing in the street holding his anntanae/wand aloft, above a manhole, out of which Nita is emerging. She is carrying what I always assumed was the Bright Book, and they are both looking to the background, where we see the Lone Power on his six legged horse approaching surrounded by perytons.
It was a pretty cool cover.
The DW cover of the same era had S'ree beached on a sand bar, with shark fins in the water around her, and in the background, Nita and Kit are approaching, walking on the water.

And, yes, I've seen that cover in the library. As a matter of fact, I've seen 4 different covers for SYWTBAW. One was the one described above, one was the new one that pictures Kit and Nita walking on the air bridge above New York City, one (this is the one that I first read) a sort of collage (sp?) of pictures, including Kit with the antenna, nita with the wand, a helicopter, a tree, etc., etc. And the other one has a picture of Kit and Nita next to what looks like a dragon that's probably supposed to be the fireworm thing.

Cool! Wish I could see all the covers...but no bookstores I regularly go to seem to get a lot of copies of YW. -_-" I've seen 2 covers... My covers for HW and DW are different. HW has Dairine typing on a keyboard, and in the back ground, Kit and Nita looking at a little FACE in the black sky, surrounded by those things Dairine created, I have forgotten what they're called at the moment. DW is an underwater thing, with Ed, the whales, Nita, Kit and the lone power as a snake in the background.

On the topic of the old covers, it'd be really neat to have a gallery of the old covers on the Young Wizards site. I'd enjoy it; anyone else?
