I think the disappearance of the senior/administrative wizards has to be related to something that's going on well beyond earth. The absences are too far reaching. (Sure, they do call in wizards from other planets at times to help with things -- but that many? Doesn't seem likely....)

...You know, on another subject, that comment about if Nita ever came to perceive herself as fictional reminds me of the one about Dairine probably not being (comparatively) too far away since she'd been stuck on Star Wars instead of Heinlein.

I found myself reading the begging of 'A Wizard's Holiday." Ugg. Don't want to do that. *Slaps hand* I should wait for the book to come out in paperback! It stinks waiting... I saw the hardcover a few days ago. Hardcover=thick, more expensive, looks funny next to all the other 'Young Wizards' books. I'll spoil it if I read ahead. But I love this series!!!

Oh come on, just buy it! Raise $$, it's EASY. Especially during the fall, excuse me, AUTUMN. Ask to rake the leaves for money, babysitting, bagging the leaves, cleaning a siblings room for money (if you have a siblings), anything! But don't do that to yourself!! I couldn't STAND waiting. But if you want to wait for a year.... *shudders* your decision.

BUY IT! I would never be able to wait that long...it drives me crazy that someone could wait that long.

Anyways, I agree with Agent M, your decision, I admire your patience... tsk tsk Skitty you and db_pr shouldn't read the spoiler topic when you haven't read the book. (I took a quick look at this topic too before I read the book...*blushes*...i'm just as guilty..., I have the patience of a two year old..)

Actually, while the first few each self-contain pretty well, I wouldn't say they don't have much continuity... Deep Wizardry definitely leans on SYW -- I'm sort of expecting a similar connection with the binding oath, in fact, though perhaps with a longer delay. And High Wizardry resolves the stuff that started in Deep with Dairine's observant-ness. Having a specific question/plot treated the way the leakage or Ponch's new ability is across several books is a bit different, though, yes.

Skitty, you have to buy it! I was going to have to wait for paperback too, but i did what Agent M suggested. It's completely worth it. god, now i can't wait for the next one to come out. Did anyone else find it interesting how the LP commented on how it and Nita would make a good team? I mean, later on couldn't that tie in with how LP had before said how it couldn't wait for Nita to betray Kit? I don't know...it's just a thought. I hope that it doesn't turn out that Nita betray's Kit, though!. I would be so sad!

NO! They can never work away from each other AGAIN!! I HATED how they weren't together in books 5 and 6. And Nita will NEVER join with the LP, you guys know that.

Well, it isn't really, is it? If the aspect they're dealing with is redeemed, then It's gone and joined them, which is perfectly all right. It's dealing with the in-between or mixed aspects like Esemeli that gets exceptionally confusing. (It really doesn't help when the LP may be just as confused.)

But I think the Lone Power's needling Nita on the subject is just that -- needling, picking on her, trying to undermine her confidence in herself. To some extent it was working, for a while at least -- we all saw how much trouble she had with the idea of turning to Kit for help in Dilemma (when she used to be able to "give herself away" and throw all her wizard's power over to him without hesitating -- she hesitated in DW because it was someone else, Ed), and how little the Lone Power wanted her to overcome that. But Ronan got warned about "the myth of self-sufficiency" in Abroad, and I think Nita's come around -- passed her crisis point, at least that one.

Actually, I thought when I read Alone that letting Nita save the day the way she did was probably a deliberate way to address that, to some extent -- her side of the "drifting" between her and Kit has been addressed in Dilemma, but in Alone, Kit ends up with a different variety and Nita, in the course of Doing What's Needed, gets a chance to be very competent on her own. I have the feeling DD probably did this in part to balance things a bit and for confidence-development purposes, and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if there is considered to be some engineering going on in that direction within the story either.
