Garrett: Snort, chortle. Just so long as that's not where we're going to find Door Into Starlight...! When on when will DD put aside this neverending YW series and get back to finishing what she started?

Oh, well. At least you reminded me of something. Where did I tuck away that copy of Farthing...?

I like Young wizards. Please don't start snubbing the author. (No offense). I can't get into her other series either, YR.
I can create a world, out of letters and words. I can make you believe something in a paragraph. I can make you love someone in a page. I can make you go places that don't exist in a book. That's all the magic I need. [url]http://melpomene.freeforums

It's my favorite. I feel like it's (no pun intended) the deepest of the series. Ed is the best.

But somehow, I can't help thinking that a fan begging an author to write more is not snubbing the author.

At any rate, I tend to make that lament on a regular basis on these boards, and I am, of course, only joking. DD will get to Door Into Starlight when it's finished cooking in her head, and not before. It's just that the first volume of the series came out in 1979, and some of us having been following her career and waiting for the Door series ever since then. The fact that there are only four novels in the Door series, and that we've since had eight YW novels... well... you guys just don't know how lucky you are that they come out as frequently as they do.

Jamie: I like Deep Wizardry the best, too. DD is very proud of saying that Robert Heinlein said to her that it was no small trick to make an old navy man feel sympathetic towards a shark.

*looks up* laughs...i suppose you have a point there...i've been wanting people to beg me for that ever since i left my best friends/fans in pensilvania...so i guess it really is a compliment. and a great motivation to continue writing...as if the increased insanity caused by NOT writing isn't bad enough.

you really think its's the deepest? i thought that wizards dilema was, personally...i mean, it was saddest, but it all seemed more powerful, and deeper then any other...*shrugs* that's just me though.

i agree that this one is a really good one. it's hard for me to pick just one (they're all so good!) it was interesting to see the reactions/results of nita's parents finding out about nita and kit's wizardry though.

Ok, i will say that having everyne find out about the wizardry WAS cool...but i still don't think it's the best for reasons already mentioned. the wizards dilema book was just the most powerful of them in my oppinion...of course, that's just me. *ShrugS* well, about to get kicked off comp, so ending this post!

DW was pretty cool with the whales, but as for storyline I really have to stand by WH and WAW (are those the right abbreviations? O, well, figure it out!) Sker'ret, Filif, and Roshaun add so much to the series.

I really like DW, second only to Wizard Abroad.

Different strokes for different folks. I felt like Dilemma's resolution was a bit deus ex machina, while DW's finale built, little by little, on how the characters developed during the book. (Besides, back when there were only two YW books, there was no guarantee that Nita actually would get out alive...)

Has anyone read a book where the narrator was killed off? (Not counting Starrise at Corrivale, of course. :-) )

i suppose not knowing that nita would get out WOULD make everything a bit more shocking...but i at the same time, who rights only TWO books? one, sure. three, alright...but TWO? *has never read any series with TWO* which means she simply HAD to get out alive...still, i liked the book all the same. *Grins* i like ALL the books in the series, though, even if i DO like some more then others, so that's not really anything all that shocking.

                            The Wizard's Dilemma is good...but I don't think it's the best either.

Deep Wizardry was definitely a crowning achievement. It had so much to it in multiple parts. Nita comes out and tells her parents she's a wizard, Ed is awesome, and all the characters are so intense.

The last thing i'd say is that it has to be very hard to write a story where the main character starts out agreeing to be a sacrifice. All the Wizards series has some points where people die or become hurt, but to write it from the perspective of willing sacrifice was a very interesting place to go.

I love the entire series, but i've read Deep Wizardry more than any of the others. I think it just has something more than the others.

On another note. I haven't really gotten into the door series, but DD has stated that the Wizards series was her most "personal" work. I think she needs to get it all out, and then she will probably get back to it. Writing isn't easy.

So far it's my favorite. HW was kind of boring to me. That didn't stop me from liking the series. But I guess it would be hard to choose since the series isn't even over.

despite the fact that i seem overwelmed on all fronts, i STILL hold to the oppinion that wizards dillema aws the best...it had a kinda power to it, amongst the saddness, that even THIS book didn't contain...though this one was also thrilling...i'm glad nita didn't die in it. i would have been HORRIFIED...as things are, it's kinda sad how things worked out, but kind of happy too, if that makes any sense at all...
