balthasar, have you tried your local public library? And if your local system doesn't have a copy, ask them about how to get them to purchase the book, or about doing an interlibrary loan.
Or, if you just wanted to know if it's available in Canada Amazon.ca is listing it as "ships in 24 hours", so it's out there.
Sadly, as with most things, time = money. If you can't spend the money on the book, then you'll have to wait until your library gets it, or it comes out in paperback...New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

heh heh...I can never do that...I had to get W@W as soon as it came out, I had to get Girls in Pants the first time I saw it....I'm normally very patient, but when it comes to books....well, If I see the last copy of a book I want, and you're standing in my way, well, I'm having meatloaf for supper.kli6:

(wow, that was really gross...I don't think I've ever said (or typed) anything as remotley gross as that...ummm...)
anyways, the whole "guy reading girl book" thing...I can think of another book. My ILA (english, spellling, and reading) teacher from last year said that "there are no boy or girl books". WEll, that isn't necessarily true. For example: DId anyone here ever read Absolutely Normal Chaos by Sharon Creech? It is most definatley a girls' book. It's a girls diary/journal and it deals with her first kiss! Cummon!!
Or Are You There God? It's me, Margaret. That deals with puberty in girls and such. It actually made me laugh more than anything, for some reason. Now you see, there are some girl books, but fantasy/sci-fi is both. I know a boy in my class who knows every Yoda line and every Darth Vadar line from the 3rd Star WArs movie, not to mention all the books....
umm, as b4, I might use a few of these quotes, invoking a "weird girl" thought from some, wileinvoking a ,"hey, I remember that! that was soooooo funny!" thought from others...
wow, long post!! (heh heh)
ta-ta! (evil, Cruella-like laugh)just let your heart take over and sign with a flourish

I think it's harder to come up with boy-only books than with girl-only, which is one of the reasons that you find more girls as readers.
Disney animated films revolved a lot around the Princess Heroine, so that could be one reason why fantasy may be seen from the outside as a girls' thing, and there certainly is an entire fantasy subgenre of the princess story (e.g., Robin McKinley's Beauty). But then, Disney began doing "boys' movies" and their most successful was The Lion King, iirc. It's also cited as one of the reasons the Harry Potter series does so well--some folks posit that the series wouldn't have been nearly as successful if the protagonist had been Harriet Potter.
Anyhoo, I should also probably mention Guys Read.New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

I think that it's not true that girls are supposed to read preppy books about people in high-school. All I basically read is Fantasy, except for a couple of exceptions like [I]Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants[/]. A lot of my friends think that it's really weird that I read in my spare time, not unlike they watch T.V.

Yeah, I have that problem too. Alot of my friends think that it's really weird that I read so much. Only one out of four of my friends doent think it's weird. In fact one of the things I got for Christmas was a $40 dollar gift card to Borders. I was like Yay!Don't take life so seriously- you wont get out alive anyway.
I just got lost in thought…it was unfamiliar territory.

I think that, in a way, reading "preppy girls in highschool" books have become a trait that media, and other people are just automatically associating with girls, like shopping and makeup, and things like that. Being a bookworm or a science fiction and or fantasy fan is made to seem geeky by movies and tv.
I'm probably one of the few people in my class and my group of friends that actually likes reading, and people seem to find that strange.
Maybe because I'm a girl, or maybe because most people find reading geeky.Who knows!
