  • Infinity

All that Transcendent Pig time-talking got me wondering (in an odd connection), what you all veiw infinity as. Everyone has their own way of grasping it, and I was wondering how ya'll dealt with the concept.

Me, I see infinity as a super Wall-Mart: if you stand at one end, you can't see the other end. It just seems to go on and on and on forever and ever. Yeah. Odd, but a good way to grasp it.

Lol Caitlin, about the Wallmart thing...Infinity...

Infinity is how far away I feel from real life during the middle of the night. Infinity is...the seemingly unending depths of the sea. Infinity is how long you're supposed to love when you get married. Infinity is reaching to the depths of space, and then reaching even farther, because you want to know what's out there. It's the feeling you get during science fair week, or the finals in basketball season. The feeling of Tech Week for the school musical in the spring. The feeling in the beginning of summer break. It lasts forever. Infinity is how long high school is taking to get over. Infinity is...now and forever.

I hate nights. I get all weirdly sort of philosophical. I DESPERATELY need sleep right now...so infinity is how long I want to sleep right now...or at least 8 hours....but I'll probably sleep less. Way less.

      Interesting question...

To me, infinity is something like a Moebius strip. Something that just goes on and on and on and on and on and on ... Or as a feeling it is something that you totally enjoy doing - like spending all day chasing a feed of fish - and then finally cathcing something on the way in. Its also looking at an endless horizon - or finding a place where there is no light polution and having trouble finding the constellations that you usually look for because there are so many stars.

When I think of infinity, sometimes I think of a line of numbers that goes on forever. Usually, though, it's space, like looking out into space and it keeps going on and on and you know that there's stuff between the things you can see, just so far away that you just can't see it from where you are, and it goes on and on forever.

I've heard infinity explained like this: A bird flies past a mountain once every 1,000 years, and brushes a single feather against the mountain...when that mountain has worn away, that's infinity.

But, personally...if I close my eyes and envision outer space. Just...the endless darkness and the stars so far away...I picture myself soaring through the void and passing endless planets, suns, comets, and moons...

I actually get a funny little feeling in my stomach when I envision that. It's almost like when a roller coaster suddenly plummets 200 feet, after ascending for a little bit. Yeah...but space is basically my idea of infinity. Something that literally has no ending...

I don't really know why, but infinity makes me think of circular things. I think infinity to me is travelling in a straight line for so long that you eventually end up where you started. It'd take eternity to do that anyways...

Another way I thnk of infinity is a long string of numbers, like pi (or just a straight line) that no one knows the end of, or if there even is an end. Something that, if I ever find the end, I would feel extremely satisfied.

The infinity symbol is a good example too (looks like an 8 on its side). You can trace it forever and ever and never stop or some to an end.
-Tell me and I may remember; show me and I'll understand; involve me and I'll never forget. Thank you, PM. Your light lives on.

Angel, well, EVENTUALLY, the mountain is going to be worn away, and that's not infinity. That's just a very long time.

I imagine infinity as a beam of golden light (don't ask me why) that stretches into space, and never ends.

I imagine infinty as on of those fruit-by-the-foot gummy rolls. It goes on and on and lasts forever... until you eat it! XP

Or infinity is a Six Flags amusement park. Very very big, and very easy to get lost in.

Actually, I dont imagine infinity as such a thing. I see infinity simply as never-ending space. Like eternal darkness flowing in all directions forever. Its kinda scary to picture something so vast, something so great that it would actually NEVER end...it's too vast for the human mind to even attempt to understand. I mean, everything HAS to end, have walls and some sort of limits... except infinty is just that, limitless...*shudders* How can something possibly be literally endless??

Hehe, _I_ know that Gryph. I just said that someone had described it to me that way ^^ Hm...a beam of light...that's an interesting way of looking at it. I can sort of see why, though. Oh, and Kaiba, that's DEFINITELY an interesting way of looking at it :-p Muahahaha...fruit by the foot...and amusement parks. Huzzah!

Infinity.... hmmm.... I think that it is a never-ending line. Did you ever hear that a line is never-ending? When I learned that in Geometry I thought to myself, "That sounds like infinity..." Well that's my opinion. Anyone else the same or am I the only one who's weird and thinks of such things??
I'm a happy person. Do you know why? Because happiness is an excuse everyone understands. Life is full of surprises, but happy people takes them in stride.

infinity is a figure-eight, it goes back and forth with no begining or end. life is like this.

When I think of infinity I think of a place that looks like Heaven, stretching either way forever. It just never stops. I don't like thinking of it as a circle, because I don't think Infinity ever retraces it's steps, or goes back. It's always somewhere knew. If you believe in Heaven, do you think Heaven goes on forever, and is infinite? Mmmmm...

I think of infinity as...googoplexes of googoplexes of years, of all life, of everything constantly changing, of the fact stars will be for infinity, of music, of stories with morals and sandess and joy and adventure. I think of family, and of those like pictures of sunrises and sunsets in high-speed. I get a weird feeling in the pit of my stomache when I think of what infinity is; it's just too big to comprehend! I think of a line, sometimes going all squiggly or jumping across the pages, but is still there, and continues for a thousand sheets of paper. That's my view of infinity.

Just as an afterthought, it reminds me of the mobiles and their looking at not only individual things, but "everything".

hah. that's a bit hard, no?

I think of space when I think of infinity really. You're much more creative then me. -_-
