  • Vashmata: Ah, I apologize. I guess I didn't notice that...

VBS again today. I'm actually there right now (I snuck onto the church PC).

There are a lot of children in the auditorium, all screaming as loudly as they can...it's nice. I'm beginning to remember my childhood more, I guess.

Like last night, I suddenly remembered the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch when I was little...that lineup of cartoons was called "1 Saturday Morning" and it was on ABC...*sigh* It's been a while since those shows were on...

Now, when I have to explain the shows to a younger child, like my little sister, I feel so old...I feel much too old to be giving one of those "When I was your age..." rants...

    • It's so miserably hot. Ugh. This is me: This is me right now, just as I've finished taking my dog on a very long, sunnny, hot walk: It was 93 degress outside this morning at ten...and I have band camp next week, which will be pretty miserable seeing as I have to carry forty-five pounds of dead weight on one shoulder all day in the middle of a parched football practice field and I can only drink a certain amount of water a day. Not looking forward to that.....

On the other hand, this week is the first week this summer that I haven't had something to do. Aladdin was last Friday and Saturday, and that's basically my last commitment of the summer besides band camp. That's the reason I haven't posted in quite a while...I was so busy. Anyway, I have this week off, then band camp next week from 8-4 every day with activities in the evening, another week of nothing, then school starts on the next Wednesday after that (the 20th). Meh. It's hot. My brain is fried. Or perhaps I should say broiled.

      • It sounds like everyone's having a nice summer so far. Good. I also got burnt/tan like a lot of people, spent some time in the ocean, etc., etc.
        Good stuff.

On Facebook: All right, I'm in them, and horribly conspicuous, but actually I think I set my privacy settings juust right, so I'm pretty covered.

On des old cars: I really, really want an old car, from the fifties and such. I'm saving up. It will be my first car and it will be my baby and it will eat up my gas so I'll end up using my parents' car much more often XD

        I'm sorry Tut.

On dolls: The funny thing is, I never really cared much for dolls when I was younger. I look upon them with more fondness and nostalgia now then playfulness then. Strange, no? It reminds me of this story I had to read for english, Barbie-Q. Interesting story, actually, and sort of made me wish I had liked dolls more when I was little. Eh, oh well. *shrugs* I had me books :P

Emi: You've only been on for a year? It seemed longer than that!

also... Something happened similar to my brother with the Mercedes thing, except with beemers. Oh my gosh, we must have seen a beemer every five minutes for two hours when we went on vacation. It was really, really funny :P

Ugh. That really stinks. I hope everything clears up and you have an awesome time in NC!!

kk: sounds like some good books! But that really does sort of sound like a strange family *cues x-files music*

incidentally, I cannot WAIT for that movie! It should be amazing, I looove x-files! I used to watch it when I was a wee little bairn!

kk again: I remember those cartoons! Road Runner was the besttt! I actually remember sitting there when I was really little, and thinking, "Man, I wish they had these on every day!" And then they did! And then... they all went downhill. Poor little cartoons.

Even now, whenever I hear Mendelssohn, all I can think of is bugs bunny in a tutu XD

Ooh, and Garrett: Thanks for those piano sheet music links!! It makes my summer a little more interesting when I have something new that I really like to work on! For instance, I've got the first two pages of Nyman's "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" down, which is gorgeous, and "Lighthouse" by the Hush Sound memorized. They're both very fun and nice to play. Thankyee very very much!

*sigh* On a completely different note, at the moment I feel like a sort of horrible person. It's really stupid stuff involving boys that I won't get into, unless you pm me or something. I don't thing the togr is the place for it.

But other than that, life has been pretty spiffy.

Actually, something that's really fun and cool (especially for people who are classically minded like me) is writing letters. I highly suggest it, even to your best friend who lives around the corner. It's cool to have something to hold onto, and also it helps you say things that you find hard to say in person or online. It really frees up your mind, and strengthens your friendship. I suggest anyone try it out, it's amazing

        Well, to sleep or somesuch.

        Dai stiho!

        Mellers

EDIT: Emi, Team Emmett?? Psh, please! Hahaha it's alice all the way XD

EDIT (again): I can't believe I said spiffy. *groan/headdesk* What has happened to my insane sanity? I've lost even that! *sigh*

        • kk: great finds. Yeah that is a bit odd about their books... hmmm.

CyberMirage: You went to Japan? What did you do there?? My dad's from Japan, and I've been begging him for years to take me back there. (I was there when I was two, so I really don't remember much) Good to see you back, even if you don't know me.

Hungry: A leech in the ocean?!? Never heard of that one before. That must have been gross.

kk again: I remember those cartoons!!! Oh I miss them soo much. I used to watch them all the time. At my school one of the seniors theme was "Back in the day" and they had all the old shows and stuff. Like "Doug" and other various cartoons (Animaniacs).

eowyngirl: Ugh, I hope you have a good time a band camp.

Mel: I know, I was surprised myself.

I'm having a good time in NC so far. I've gotten some tanning done. (And I've gotten burnt)

There was a major storm last night!! I was in a department store (Goody's) for anyone who knows what I'm talking about. I don't have that store in my state. Anyway, I was in the store with my mom, grandmother, and sister. The storm hit while we were in there and it killed the power. So we were like stuck in the store and couldn't make our purchases. Then it kind of calmed down so we were able to run out of the store in to the car.

My mom was like flipping out the whole time driving back to my grandparents house because we were driving _in_ to the storm. When we got to the house we found that the power went out there as well. So we were all in the living room last night talking. I ended up sitting next to a candle and read New Moon. I finished it last night btw....

Anyway, the lights didn't come back on until around 1 am. My dad and I were the only ones up. Haha.

Mel again: What? Emmett is hilarious. I love Alice too.

It's a nice day outside but my grandfather thinks that there's going to be a repeat of last night. I hope not. I don't think my mom can handle another storm. Hahaha.

          • Emi: I googled all of the shows I remembered, and I found that there are some episodes on YouTube. I was utterly happy...and then I found a free download of and album that had the audio files of all of the theme songs for shows like "Doug" and "Pepper Ann" and "Recess" plus the general "One Saturday Morning" theme. I was drowning in happy childish memories. It felt good...

So the power went out at my house for no real reason. It may have been the construction at the park (they're renovating the library), but I don't know. And it was really not cool, because even though my laptop had sufficient battery, the wireless router didn't, and I had no internet! I just decided to give up, and read a lot instead. Pretties is a good book...as is The City of Ember...

              • TanithT: I'm in Robeson County. I'm actually leaving tomorrow. Unfortunately.

kk: That's awesome!! I'm going to have to look up that on youtube now!!! I'm excited. Hahaha.

Oh one thing I forgot to add in the last post. I had visited one of the colleges I'm thinking about attending on... Tuesday? Yes, Tuesday.

It's a really neat campus. I loved the whole atmosphere. I actually got to talk to one of the professers there and he seemed really cool. I'm totally applying there.

                  • Emi: That storm sounds horrible. I live in Tornado Alley (section of the Midwest that has really no other significance but to produce tornados), so I'm kind of used to it, but once I got stuck in a mall during a mild tornado and had to go to the dressing rooms. Not fun. I didn't even have a book.

                    Mel/Emi: Alice!

kk: Ooh, I love the Uglies books! Or anything by Scott Westerfeld, really. City of Ember is pretty good, too. That kind of sucks that you had to read them because the power was out.

I'm up really early this morning...as you may notice by the time at the top of this post...so forgive my fogginess. There's a live webcast of the solar eclipse in China starting at 5:30 AM, and I got up at 4:30 so I'd actually be cognitive by the time the webcast starts. The webcast's here. Yay. I really wish I drank coffee...it would help. But I only drink tea, and I don't particularly feel like stumbling to the kitchen, making a pot of tea, and inadvertantly waking up my mom. She would be verrrrry cranky.

Edit: Am I a grammar dork for noticing a missing period at 4:41 AM? I think I am.

                    • kk: Oh my God! I remember One Saturday Morning!!! I didn't think I'd remember it, but once the song started... it was hard not to sing with it!! Haha. Amazing find. That was like forever ago!

eowyngirl: No book? Ah that stinks. How long were you in there for?? We almost had to do that, but they just made us stay at the front of the store.

So, I'm back from my wonderful vacation. I didn't want to leave... but it's nice to be home. We drove home the whole way. No stops for rest, only for the restrooms and restaurants. No "rest". So, I basically woke up at, 7am went in to the car at 8am. And stayed up practically the whole time, and didn't get home til... 3:45 am the _next_ day. I went to bed around 4am and then woke up at 10. Six hours of sleep, and I'm wide awake. This is good, compared to when we went down to NC. I only had an hour and a half.

Now, I'm just (un)patiently waiting for my Breaking Dawn book to arrive at my house. When I looked at the tracking shipment thing it said it wouldn't get shipped til the 4th? But that was just the estimate so... I don't know.

Oh, I can't really post this but if you want to know about it PM. Me and my sister pulled a really funny prank on my cousin at his work (he works for our uncle so it was okay). And my sister and I had left him a note, but he assumed it was just me that pulled the prank. So he was waiting forever to pull one on me.

Guess what? He did. He had to house sit my house because we had to leave my dog and cat at home while we drove down to NC. So he used that as an advantage... if you want to know what he did by all means PM me. But it's kind of gross (for me), in a way.

Alrighty, I'm off. I'm going to stand by my mailbox in case a certain package arrives. If it doesn't, I'm going to cry...

                      • Emi: Only a couple hours. Fortunately we were at the end of the mall with all the huge department stores, so we weren't crammed in with half the people in the mall.

I'm going shopping today...two hours away. So I'm going to Wal-Mart on the way to get my copy of Breaking Dawn. Hopefully I can read it on the way.

                        • WHAT?!!! Are all of these shows canceled completely now?

Just a few days ago, I was having my memories of all of the canceled PBS Kids shows.... Looking at the Wikipedia list of PBS Kids shows that are listed as "past", these include Anne of Green Gables, George Shrinks (well actually, reruns are running on some stations), Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat, Zoboomafoo, and ZOOM. For ZOOM, I was reading up on the casts, both in the '80s generation and the ~2000 generation, and really the only cast member I distinctly remember is Pablo. I don't know why.

And there are other, older ones, like Theodore the Tugboat....

A few weeks ago, I remembered The Brave Little Toaster movies (I still have TBLT Goes to Mars on VHS). I spent an afternoon watching the the first movie on YouTube. Hence the addition to my signature. There's also a third movie, TBLT To The Rescue. Apparently this movie was based off of a book, which I never knew. Anyone read the book?

Interestingly, I was looking through the comments of TBLT. Someone mentioned how much better kids' movies and shows were back then. They showed a dark side of life, unlike the shows of today's "sheltered idiots", as that commenter explains young kids today. I'm not sure I agree with this or not; just sharing that particular comment.

                          *Sigh* Those were the days....

All right, now after that rant about past shows.... The week after this coming, we will be going to NH again. My mom is kind of sick of going there, but my dad and I want to go. I can tell he does because in response to my mom saying that there's nothing to do up there besides Water Country, my dad said that there's plenty to do, but we've never pursued anything. And knowing him, he wouldn't say that if he were against going there. We're bringing one of my friends, who's come with us every year since 2006. In 2007, we were having all of these "last year" memories, and now it'll be, "Was it last year or two years ago that...?"

                          • Eric: if you really want to ride in the car for a long time, I advise you to head to the White Mountains, up north, near Lincoln? It's an amazing place. There's a Clarks Trading Post where they have these trained bears and some rides... It's cool. There's even a wild wolf man .

And the Flume up there is amazing as well. If you like hiking that is. There's also a Lost River Gorge where you go through caves and stuff. It's so much fun. I had a fun time when I was there.

Canobie Lake Park is another good amusement park, it's in Salem, NH.

                            Have fun on your trip.

I REMEMBER ZOOM!! Haha, and Pablo. That's really funny. I think it's because his name is Pablo.

Eowyngirl: Ah not bad then. Have fun getting your book.

                            • Eric: OMG! I somehow remember watching Theodore the Tugboat! I was really really little...It seemed kind of like Thomas the Tank Engine...anyway...

I'm hyper. And tired. And impatient about BD. I need to read that book! And my church's youth intern just posted on facebook that she already got her copy! And there are already two people from my library who've gotten the book (I checked online).

How will I live three more days??!?!!?!?!

Anyway, I'm going to go watch another episode of Doug or Pepper Ann or maybe listen to the One Saturday Morning theme again on YouTube...I like remembering what I watched when I was little...

Edit: I had an interesting day today. I was at my freakish neighbors' house again for another yard sale, and I saw a fork sitting on a table. Just...a fork. Apparently the rest of the silverware had been set somewhere else, and the fork was just sitting there.

My mother walked up and said, "Look, it's a real silver fork!" Then I kind of had a YW flashback from when I first read SYWTBAW. It was a good feeling. My mother talked on obliviously about how fascinating a real silver fork was, and I just kind of smiled at it, I suppose. I bought it, of course. I bought the rest of the silverware set as well, but I just set the fork aside from the rest.

Also I was shocked, that among so many good books, and so many good vampire books, they didn't have Twilight! I got a look at the books that weren't for sale as well, and Twilight wasn't in any of those either! Unless they just keep their Twilight books on them at all times (which I can imagine myself doing), I feel that they fail at life for not reading or owning those books.

You know how on vacations it's sometimes a little difficult to remember what day it is? I totally lost track of time... and now I have school next Monday / / /
Sorry for using so many Smilies. I'm kind of excited for school to start; i've kind of missed it... but I also realize that I should have done more Geometry work, etc. over the summer so I didn't forget as much...
How has summer passed so quickely?
I would respond to some other peoples posts, but, unfortunetly, I don't really have enough time to go through and read them all . It's hard to keep up with things in here .
