I haven't read all her books, but I am working on them, and I really like them so far. I just wish they were longer... I actually don't buy books under three hundred pages, unless I love the author or know I will read the book many I times (I read all my books many times, so I still buy books under three hundred pages... but if it is a new author and I'm not sure, I try to go through the library)
Since I'm not very far... Beka Cooper and Alanna, mostly, and suggestions for which of her books I should read first?
Dai : )

I love ALL of TP's books, every single one, but not so much the Beka Cooper books.Others than that EVERYTHING goes.....I am really excited about the numair books that are coming out soon, I just can't wait!!!!! If you have read all of the Immortalls books, or atleast up to Wolf-Speaker, Then you should read Half-Human, edited by Bruce Coville. It includes a short story about a tree that got turned into a man by a strange mage called Numair.....it made me happy when I RANDOMLY saw that book and I thought OMG Tamora Pierce.....MUST READ.....needless to say, that was the first book I got out of the library that day........It was realy cool!!!I liked the Kel books because she seemed the most human of them all, BUT, Diane might be my favorite.....or maybe Alanna, but then again, Kel is amazing too..... I like them all equally, I gues.....GO TP

I have every book written by her in both the Tortallan series and in the Circle of Magic Series. She is my favorite author (sorry Diane (your #2).

I liked Trickster's Queen a lot too. Who was your favorite character? Personally, I liked Dove a lot. On another topic, what do people think about the book that's supposed to come out about Numair?

Tamora Pierce!
I love Tamora Pierce's works of writing! I have read Trickster's Choice(<awesome!!!) and part of Trickster's Queen but I don't really like the other ones...But Trickster's Choice is one of my faves!

Yes, you're probably right, though I meant in comparison. Though I suppose there are a few in Bloodhound. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of gay characters in fantasy for young people. Sadly, three actually is more than usual.
I have no idea why.

It's kind of sad that three lesbians (Lark, Daja and her girlfriend) and a bisexual woman (Rosethorn) can be classed as "so many gay characters", from where I stand, given how many characters are in the average series... am I the only one who thinks that?Originally posted by Silverclaw View PostYes! Another RosethornLark shipper. I didn't think of it at all when I first read the books (probably because I was 9), but when I reread them it seemed obvious. Why are there so many gay characters in the Circle books, and so few in Tortall? *clings on to ridiculous theory that Numair is secretly gay*
Anyway, yeah, The Will of the Empress gives Lark and Rosethorn's relationship right away for people who couldn't see it in The Healing of the Vine. I love that. *G*

I'm a fan, too. Not terribly keen on Alanna, haven't finished reading the Protector of the Small series, but I adore all the Circle books, and I'm very definitely a Rosie/Lark 'shipper... I've always had a hard time picking my favourite character of that series, though. I like most of them.

Zirsta, really? Alanna seemed a pretty typical character to me, though I wouldn't go so far as to say stereotypical. Everyone seems to like the Tortall books better then the circle ones, I wonder why? I like the plots of the Tortall books better, but I personally think the Circle ones are better written. It seems like the Tortall books, especially SOTL, go a little overboard on the obvious themes. I have absolutely nothing against books with political agendas, but it's nice when they're at least sort of subtle.

Re: Bloodhound/Counterfeiting -- I remember reading a post on Pierce's LJ in the middle of writing Bloodhound where she said something to the effect that she had written herself into a corner with the counterfeiting plotline and didn't know how she was going to get out of it. Sounds like she didn't quite manage, huh? I had Bloodhound in my pile of books to browse at Borders the other day, but got bogged down in the middle of "A Fine Romance: Hollywood/Broadway". I may have to go back and get it this weekend, since it's on the bargain table. (And re-order Witch High -- maybe this time I'll actually be able to pay for it. :-) )

When I saw this thread, i thought i would ramble on about how AWESOME Tamora Pierce is, but everything that I wanted to say was already said!!!I didn't like the Trickster books, the Circle Opens, or the Will of the Empress, or the Beka Cooper books as much as the others...mainly because it was more centered around the fighting and violence. I did like Melting Stones, but it was a little dull.Kel, Alanna, and Diane are my favorites. I have read all her books, and one short story about the tree that was turned into a man when Numair turned Tristan Staghorn into a tree in Wolf Speaker.
that's all for now..... Go Tamora Pierce!!!!!!!

I love Tamora Pierce! I have pretty much all of her Tortall books and the Circle Quartet. I think my favorite is the Beka Cooper series though. Don't know why. Just like them best. But the Lioness quartet is right after.

I forget this thread was even here!
Well, I had a friend that bugged me for years to read Tamora Pierce, so I started the Lioness Quartet last week. I think I have all of The Immortals, but I need to check... I got a ton at a used bookstore yesterday, so I'm not really sure what I have.
I loooove the Lioness Quartet, as it seems everyone does... I really like Alanna as a character. She's not to stereotype-y as one of those oh so common rebel, independent girls, and her story still stands out from the other girl disguised as boy books I've read.

Yes, the two new ones are very good. I also liked the storyline of the first better, but the second was ok too, and introduced some awesome characters, like Okha.
