  • Thank you, Cody. And, you were right Eragon is supposed to leave with Arya to Ellesmera.

    • [I've done research on publishing...] The fact that he self-published is rather sad. Don't tell me the writing sounds like it was written by someone who was 16! The fact that he self-published/through his parent's company indicates that he probably did not have any luck with any of the major publishing company. It was after he did well, did Random House discover, "Hey, this kid is making money...lets by his book and put it under our name!" It's all about money with these companies. They only publish if you're going to be the next great author.

Anyway, hisbig thank you here and there at the end of his book tells you plain out straight that he didn't do it on his own.

      • Small town -

What do you mean, "got away with it"? Got away with what? Who did they have to answer to, who could make them do anything differently? An inexperienced, awestruck author, his parents...they have no power to make the directer do anything.

        Balthasar -

I agree with most of you said except it's not "next great author", it's "next successful author". There is a big difference Other than that, yes, as soon as I found out his parents published the book for him, the degree of which I was impressed at the kid publishing the book dropped to about nil. (Whether or not he or his parents wrote it, I don't have an opinion. I was a pretty decent writer when I was a teenager, and I knew some who were much better.)

I do find it amusing that of all the things people could complain about in a movie that's messed up, they choose to complain about the character having the wrong hair color and other things like that. Unless it's integral to the plot in some way that hasn't been mentioned (or I missed), then that really doesn't matter. Particularly given that so many other things were apparently wrong.

I remember seeing a movie of a book I loved, and I hated it because they totally changed the plot (for instance, at the end, a character who was supposed to be dead was not dead - huh?!). Of all the things wrong with that movie, the fact that one character was the wrong race was the least of my problems with it.

Thank you for agreeing with me, the movie had many other flaws as well. Arya is suppose to be uncomcious when he lets Saphira carry her, the Razac's are so suppose to capture Eragon.

          • Okay, didn't they make Brom kill the Ra'zac in teh movie? They are supposed to live and play a part in the second and third books! Teh twins are gone, they messed up Arya's character, and left out Solembum. Overall, for someone who hasn;t read the book, it might seem good, but I have no words for how much I disliked it. My little sister, on the other hand, has heard the book and still liked it so...maybe we are all just wierdos who overreact
Oh well, forums to visit and homework to do...we all know the drill!

              • We had a book club meeting today, and we "discussed" the differences between the book and the movie. The "discussion" got so loud that the librarian came into the conference room and told us to talk about something else. There was one guy in the corner who hadn't read the book and he was totally lost. When he said he liked the movie he got a glare from everyone in the room.

                    • I looked at the cover of the new edition of the book with the actors on it and noticed that the stone on zar'oc is blue its supposed to be red like the sword. Right? The video game my 8 year old brothe finished in one day (no joke). I noticed when he beat it that the final level was beating Durza in the air with no help (as usual in a game) but I asked if it was like that in the movie and he said yes. I have played one level with my brother co-op and it wasnt very challenging. I still havent seen the movie yet.
Well I g2g going to Daytona speed way for scout day.

Murtaugh was not happy about going to the varden, he seemed like he actaully wanted to go in the movie. I take it they really didn't read the book, htey screwed it up.

                        • They sure didn't read the book. I need to reread the book, but the mistakes that were made were over the top. I hope they don't make a movie for Eldest and screw that up too.

oh, and it's sad when we DON"T want them to create a movie for a book out of fear of them screwing it up...*sighs* oh well. :P

                            • Yeah um... they already screwed up Eldest just by leting Arya leave in the end of that book. So who are your favorite character in the book?

                              • And now for a netiquette break on proper quoting from your friendly neighborhood mod. Since this seems to be happening a lot in this thread.

                                1) If you are replying to the last post in the thread, you do not need to quote it.
It's right there, it's easily referred to, and for those people who don't drop by every day, they may have just read it a second before they hit yours. It's weird behavior to repeat whatever anybody says to you before replying. Just because the system automatically puts the quoted text in doesn't mean you have to leave it there.

                                2) You can also use the Reply button.
It's right there, below the page numbers. See it? It's also at the top, but that might be too much scrolling. That will bring up the Reply window without quoting the message you're replying to.

                                3) If you need to quote the entire message, consider linking to it instead of quoting it.
This saves a lot of space, especially if you're only going to reply to it with a line or two, rather than point-by-point. If you right-click on the little text icon before the "Posted [Date]" of each post, you can copy the URL that goes directly to the post. Just paste that in, and folks can click on it or not (if they remember the post in question).

                                4) If you are going to quote, trim down the quotes just to give enough of a sense of what you're replying to.
Again, this saves space, and doesn't waste everybody's time making them read stuff they don't need to. Also, don't assume that quotes have to be done as a solid block, or only from a single post. You can intersperse the quotes with your own replies, rather like a play, or a real-life conversation. Learn how to use the quote tags.

                                5) If your post is shorter than the quote (or your sig) consider not posting at all.
Chances are, you're just agreeing or disagreeing, and not really adding to the conversation. Try adding why you agree or disagree, or how you feel about something, or additional information. Give your post some substance.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled thread.
