• Ouch. Yeah I can see why one wouldn't want to see that kind of "sequel". I mean half the time normal sequels stink, so if they're written by someone completely different...
PM-I don't know if I remember that part. Maybe you could refresh my memory. I just have no idea who that is.

• Oh, you have to take a day off work, oh, damn, what a pain, what a hard decision that must have been.

Moviewise: Hotel Rwanda is finally, finally out in New Zealand. (Yeah, and you think it takes us a while for us to get normal films, like about six months. I've been waiting for Hotel Rwanda for... I'm not sure when it ws released in the States, but possibly over a year. Damn. (It did show in some arthouse theatres and film festivals, but I missed it every time.) So... yay for widespread theatrical release!

Now to find out the dates for Howl's moving Castle and Narnia- actually, Narnia was filmed here, it may be released quite soon. *hopeful*
Go ahead! Panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!

• Howl's Moving Castle is already out here. Now I just need to find someone to see it with. Bah humbug. I truly can't wait for Wallace and Gromit and I'm SO going to see Serenity even though I didn't see any of Firefly. What's Mirrormask?
My mom wouldn't see Hotel Rwanda because she thought it would romantisize what actually happened. She's a bit...obsessed about that incident. She gets very passionate about it sometimes and I kind of need to calm her down a bit. It scares me how much I act like her mother sometimes.

• Mirrormask is the Neil Gaiman/Dave McKean film they made on a shoestring budget and thought up in Jim Henson's house. Basically, it looks a lot like one of their comic books, only it moves and has actors in it. Ultracool.

The basic story is about a teenage girl who lives in a circus who wants to run away to real life. But then her mother falls sick, and Helena has to go into a dream land on a quest to find the mirrormask to save her mother.

And yeah, Tui. I suffered untold agonies coming to that decision.

• OOh, that sounds really good. I'll have to see it. Again, I would like to ask-has anyone seen The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? Cause I really liked it.
I love Jim Henson. Muppets rock my world.

• Yesterday I saw Batman Begins, today I have to say, best Batman movie ever.

The scenes and the settings are great, making the movie very artistic, especially the fight in the ice between him and Ra's, the cave, etc.

I didn't like Christian Bale's acting, especially the little voice he put when he was Batman, it was simply annoying... but it was nice watching Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman and Katie Holmes again. As well as Ken Watanabe, even if his role was short.

The way the hallucinogen (sp?) changed Crane's mask and Batman's mask to a gross monster was genius.

What I want to say, is, basically, watch it. In it's short days of being in the teathres, it climbed to #64 of the top 250# of IMDB.

I saw Braveheart too, I hadn't before... it's now on my top 10 favorite movies.

• Er, I think Batman Begins is planning on running for a while. I saw it, I enjoyed it, but the actors I was most surprised and delighted to see were Tom Wilkinson and Gary Oldman, which was great. And I loved Christian Bale. He looked like a Neal Adams Batman drawing half the time, which was insanely cool.

I agree that it's definitely the best of the Batman movies. It's the first one that's felt like it was made by someone more familiar with the comics than the tv series. But there are some serious problems with the pacing, especially with all the huge lumps of exposition they gave Liam Neeson at the top of the movie. Still, just to see Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon was completely worth it.

I just wish they'd known how to pronounce Ra's Al Ghul correctly... (sigh). Does no one watch the animated series?

• Anybody seen War of the Worlds? I saw it. It's kinda freaky...as in creepy, blood-and-gore freaky. It was really touching...

I KNEW Robby was going to die. I KNEW it. But he didn't. The only anxiety I had for the first half was that I KNEW he would die. But I asked my cousin (who'd seen the movie the day before too) if he died, and cousin said no. So after that, I wasn't scared. Overall, it was a good movie, but it seems it was just made for the suspense part. There was no way to guess what happened to the aliens ahead of time, no explaination to how Robby lived...the only other part was that it went too long. Too much running away, and too much getting away by chance. But I loved it.

Episode III is perfect, despite its many obvious flaws.

• OMG, War of the Worlds was SUCH a bad movie... The gore wasn't that bad, just kinda icky... but the ending, grrrrr.... and the movie was just really annoying...
How can aliens watch humans before they are even aware of themselves, and not know about bacteria? How can they not realize that people get sick? Totally screwed up way of getting rid of them... And they made such a lame holywood ending, argh...

• Weirdest thing happened when I went to see War of the Worlds. I went with my best friend, David, and my sister, Sarah. When I invited David to come see it with us, he said was I sure? Because it looked really scary, and it looks so scary he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to see it.

I tend to be very scared at scary movies, to the point where I just don't go see them because I get so scared. And when he said that, I was like "What are you talking about?"

So, we went to go see it, and went out to dinner afterwards, and David and Sarah were talking about how scary it was and how scared they were and on and on and on and I just started at them. "I didn't think it was that scary."

So, we all mulled over the fact that I (the scaredy-cat) did not find it particularly scary and they (who like scary things) did.

I enjoyed most of it, and there were some creepy parts (like the flaming train, that was creepy) but it just kept remind me of other movies and episodes of tv shows. Alias, Close Encounters, varions non-scary alien movies, Minority Report....

And yes, the kid should have died. There is no possible way he should NOT have died.

I didn't even think the gore was that icky, and I also hate gorey movies.

(Yes, my movie choices are somewhat limited by the fact that I am a wuss. I've come to accept that fact )

• Bluesalamander-I'm exactly the same. I NEVER see scary movies because I know I'll freak and not sleep for a month. I mean, certain episodes of Buffy freak me out. Horror=not for me.

• Well, i think it wasnt scary, and im like bluesalamanders, get scared REALLY easily... I dont see how it could be scary.. and i didnt really like the movie *shrug* not cause it was scary, but because i didnt like it...

Well, in case you peoples dont believe me... I got scared of The Ring for like.... am still scared of it, although the sequel helped, 28 days later kinda scared me.. well, whenever i take the trash out i expect some infected person to come running down the street for me... The prequel to the exorcist creeped/grossed me out.. but didnt have lasting effect, still creeped me out though.... I think the Ring really did mess me up... The only other movie i can think of right now (sorry cant think of more) was the grudge.. which i saw the last 10-15 min of... man, that really creeped me out, but again, not as bad lasting effects... well, yeah.. i love comedy/action movies, and have a lot of weird movies on our movie shelf cause my parents... well, thats all for now folks :P

• Just going to jump in here real quick with all of this talk about "War of the Worlds".
I have to take issue with people who thought the ending was bad, in particular comments from Tatiana and Lisa. Have you never read the book? It a classic piece of sci-fi literature, and one of the earliest examples of the genre. The movie couldn't possibly end any other way, because that's EXACTLY the way the book ends. Including the "lame Hollywood ending".

That is all.
