I think that's the first time someone's said my train of thought makes sense.
Thanks M!

I like it, Amber. It makes sense to me, too. Do you guys like my friend's poems? I do:
Um
Does that mean anything to you, when I say um?
To me it spells I love you
Maybe you can't speak my language um
But then you can't be right for me
I say um beside each word
I um love um you um
Which really spells I I love you you I love you love I love you
But I guess we're rather different
You say er just all the time
Does that mean anything to you?
Er equals I love you?
I wish I wish um
Er um er um er um
That was written by another friend. Not my type. No.

ppc... I really like yours. It expresses exactly how I feel sometimes ^.^. and brokencello, your friend's is cute.... *ack... having a decreased-vocab attack...*
I write lots of poetry, although I don't post most of it anywhere.... and I've lost two of my favorites, although I'm emailing a teacher who has hard copies to ask her to email them back. Which I'll get along to, sometime....
I have three little dribbles to share here. One of them is something I wrote when I was in second grade, to submit to a contest (and it made it into the anthology!), titled "The Butterfly and the Bee":
Said the butterfly to the bee:
"Why don't you look like me,
with beautiful wings
and a wonderful shape?
Oh, the beauty of me."
"Well," said the bee,
"Why don't you act like me.
buzzing about and making honey,
as fast as a bunny?
Oh, the wonder of me."
So they argue on, all day long,
until they said to one another:
"We should have known
We're both as good as the other."
(It's a bit cheezy, and has an irregular meter and rhyming scheme, but hey--I was about seven or eight when I wrote it. I'd be ashamed of it now, but I was proud of it then and am proud of my snooty little snot-nosed past self now ^.^)
I also like to scribble random junk in demi-caligraphic (ar as close as you can get with a pencil) script in the white spaces of sketches, and this one's my favorite (haven't thought of a title):
Philosophers
have left their tow'rs
And gathered in
the streets, the rain
For all the el*
have left their stars
And vowed to not
return again
*El: god(s), angel(s)
(This one only has half-hearted approximate rhymes, and is slightly nihilistic, but it was originally tailored to a particular character whose personality's kinda like that. Meter is constructed to imitate a heartbeat.)
And this is something I like to call a train-of-thought-tracker, which is basically expressing a poetic (i.e., severly edited so it makes some semblance of sense/sounds prettier) version sequence of thoughts in more-or-less the order in which they happened. This one I thought up, creepily, about two days before I first read Neil Gaiman's "Fear of Falling", from The Sandman (I haven't given this a title, either):
Teach me.
Teach me to fall with grace,
To throw myself
To the winds
And the skies
And the heavens, above
And below.
Teach me,
And watch me as I plummet,
Dreams
And fears
And concerns
All stripped away
By the passing wind.
After all,
Is this not that
To which we aspire?
For if I fall
With no ground below,
Who is to say
I do not fly?
(Loose-to-the-point-of-nonexistant meter, and absolutely no rhyming scheme whatsoever, but that's part of the point ^.^)

It's really unfair how talented you are.
I especially love the last one..Who is to say/I do not fly, indeed. It makes one stop and catch one's breath and see the sky for a moment.
The second one is really...beautiful, for lack of a better word. I really am losing control of the English language, aren't I?
'The Butterfly and the Bee' made me smile. When I was in second grade, I stuck to haiku and the like...didn't start writing real poetry until fourth or fifth grade. Like I said, you're really unfairly talented.

Ppc, you don't do my ego any good, you know... *grin* thanks, tho'!
But I really think yours are just as good, mweee? The last one you posted was even in almost the same format as my third, come to think of it.... mmm. Interesting.
I was only able to write poetry in second grade because of how my teacher pushed me... she was VERY proactive, Mrs. Hopper. Kinda scary, actually... especially if you were stupid/acted stupid... (well, I did, but I was too ADHD at the time to notice how much I irked her...)
And it is really hard to say exactly "what it is" about poetry in general... I have trouble with that, mweh. Lots. (Notice how little I was able to express how I felt about yours...). It didn't help my grade at all, no.
I am Lionfish. HEAR ME ROA-- ....um, bubble. Blub, blub. *sweatdrop*
If you can't spell my name, go ahead and call me semi or S-chan. I don't mind, really.

Well, you deserve it.
Eep! One-linerness! Um...
This unworthy one presents a poem-scribble-thing written, and this is important, without coffee. I simply put down whatever I felt like putting down at the moment, so it's not very coherent. You have been warned.

Wow. This stuff is really good. Semiramis*, what is with you? Got a muse on your shoulder or something? And ppc is going strong too! Wow, I love this stuff. I should get some of mine on here, so I can justify my reading YOUR poetry...
*Queen Semiramis, the ancient effigy of the Assyrian empire. Famed for her beauty, strength, wisdom, voluptuousness, and alluring power, she is said to have built Babylon with its hanging gardens, erect many other cities, conquer Egypt and much of Asia including Ethiopia, execute war against the Medes and Chaldeans; which eventually lead to an unsuccessful attack on India where she nearly lost her life.

db, M: *glomps* Thank you!
Rysade, semiramis: *snickers* I was wondering where the word/name/whathaveyou 'semiramis' was from.

ppc: Again, you've managed to put into words something I tend to think about but have never been able to express... lovely, mmm ^.^
...your simple, expressive style reminds me of someone we studied in the poetry unit of one of my literature classes, but I can't put my finger on who....
re: the name "semiramis": heee. yesh, that is where I got my screenname... I actually didn't know about the voluptuousness part -_-... me is really rather flat-chested ^.^v (although I've become so comfortable with the moniker "semiramis" that it now feels odd to see it in the mythical context...).
Muses? I rather think I have three, actually. One for writing, who is insane and messed-up; one for art/music, who is a quiet little fellow and tries to avoid the first but has a bit of a split personality; and one to tell me/both of the others WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?? FIX THAT STUPID MISTAKE THERE RIGHT NOW!!! ...needless to say, the third is the most vocal ^.^***

Glitter
Sparkles
Around your eyes
Wrinkles
Laughlines
Around my eyes
Scarlet
Shine
Upon your lips
Cracks
Chaps
Upon my lips
Blush
Glitter
Around your cheeks
Skin
Skin
Around my cheeks
Face it girl
I'm no princess
And you can't
Turn me into one
Face it girl
You have style
And all the guys
Like you a lot
Face it girl
I don't want to be
The way you are
Cos I like me
Don't threaten me
With lipstick
Don't yell at me
With blush
Just give me
A little coverup
And I'll be fine
For today
