heee... I was just about to rant at surfy about the same thing....

re: black pudding: yes, it's made of blood. It's not the same thing as what other puddings are (i.e., sweet, somewhat gelatinous dessert often coming in a little plastic cup with a little plastic spoon). I have no idea what it's actually like, I just know that it's different... and sounds sort of ick, but, hey... so does fermented soybean (tofu, for those who don't know).

Actually, tofu isn't fermented soy beans. Stinking tofu is. Miso is. Natto is. But regular tofu is actually soy bean milk (ground soy beans and water) that's been coagulated with either calcium sulfate (plaster of paris!) or magnesium chloride.

And you thought tripe was gross.

This topic is the nasty food topic apparently we've all changed it!
I have to tell all my friends my crush on the last day of school. I don't want to Oh WEll! I guess I will anyways. This is the grossest food I've ever eaten.
        Whitebait:
I got it at a pub in London. It was so gross! It was like fish sticks, But the whole fish was in them. With the eyes, bones, scales, and heart intact! And the worst part was my mom stuffed a whole one in her mouth and said. "This is soooo good!"
Sorry all of you people in england but I don't eat anything that looks back at me.

Black pudding is made out of blood, and i think it's a particularly English food- which would explain everything. According to google, it's "congealed pig's blood in a length of intestine." Yum, yum.

:O Whitebait is LOVELY! Of course, you've only had the english version... the real version is the kiwi version, white and fluffy and in pancakes. Mmm, whitebait fritters... (They're actually really small and skinny, like 2 cm long and you can't really see much detail. mmm.)
Go ahead! Panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!

I could really go for some HushPuppies right now. Deep fried corn bread is a beautiful thing. I'm a southern girl in California!

I had a major craving for taquitos today at lunch. Don't know why. Just hit me all of a sudden. Instead I went for the chocolate in my desk. I'm so bad.

                  Drea.. there ya go...

Long live chocolate!!! (Though I can't eat much of it very often.)

I must be a southern girl at heart too... But I have been on a Mexican food kick. Taquitos, chimichangas, and Taco Bell's Fiesta Taco Salad. Yum!!!! Also I also make a mean Spanish flavored goulash.... with beans, veggies, rice, ground beef, and mexican seasonings like you would make salsa with. And we treat it like salsa and scoop it up with white corn tortilla chips. Hmmm... this is making me hungry. I think that sounds good for tonight. I think that I will go make some in a few.

The black pudding I had years ago (didn't like it, last time I tried it) was a sausage with blood as one of the ingredients. So yes, that does mean blood in a pig's intestine, since that's what sausage skins traditionally are, but there's meat in there too.

None of which is making vegan_chick want to eat it, of course...

drea: I am so missing the little fast food fry up place that did fantastic catfish and hush puppies. (sigh).

And I need some REAL Mexican food, soon. None of this lettuced, jack-cheese, guacamole-smothered fried-hard-taco shell gringo crap. Time to go to Super Cocina, where they don't hire chefs, they find someone's abuela and ask her if she has a regional speciality to add to their menu... Get me a bowl of pozole. Or something with squash blossoms in it. Maybe a big plate of carnitas or barbacoa... And fresh-made tortillas. Mmmmm.

Chani, have you ever done Mexican hot chocolate? To die for. Here in San Diego you can find Ibarra at the local supermarkets.

I eat a lot too, but no matter how much I eat, I can't seem to gain any weight (I weigh 80 pounds and I'm eleven already)! Not that I'm self-concious about it, I guess it's just genetics. My friends say I look anorexic but I eat and eat, esp. when I'm bored, but not junk food. I hate junk food! I usually eat salad and fruits as a snack. For lunch, I had vegan organic shephards pie. YAY!! I had some really good "sausage" made out of organic tomatoes.

Yes, fruits ARE the ovary of a plant that grows around a seed.

                          And some useless info:
peanuts aren't nuts, they are part of the pea family.
                          Vanilla are beans AND fruit!!!
                          Pickles are pickled fruit!!
                          squash is fruit!
                          You'd be amazed!

I love mexican food, esp. home made tamalies (which my mom's mexican friend makes, she makes mine without the meat!)
... But he was looking through the window at the one joy from which he must be forever barred.

Mmmm. The closest place for Hush Puppies is about 15 miles away, called Alfie's Fish and Chips. I keep bugging my mom for a Fry Daddy (a little baby deep fryer).

Due to the fact that there is a high Latino content in my area, real Mexican food is in no shortage. It makes me happy to get shredded beed tacos. Or potato tacos. Or Pozole. Oh god, Pozole makes me so happy.

Yummy, I love taco bell! I don't get why people call it taco hell. Once we went there and we had just bought a TV and it fell out of the car. It was kind of funny.

Peter, your description of blood pudding is also having an adverse reaction for me as well. The more I think about it, the more my stomach threatens to flip over... not good.

Enough with the subject, okay? Please... brussel sprouts are better by comparison.

Kli... nope, haven't tried mexican hot chocolate. I stated in my post that I can't have it very often. (About once a month) So, I tend to eat things that I love and have loved all my life. I am trying to be good for my birthday (in two weeks) so I can have a big chocolate cake. My son and I decided that is what we wanted cake-wise for our birthdays (his is the day after mine). I am looking forward to it... though not as much as May 31st and then on June 5th.... one weekend at a time.
