Try to hook yourself up with Photoshop Elements, though: It's cheap and pretty much the exact same thing as Photoshop 7 (if you're using a mouse--once you get into tablets it's an entirely different story), so...yeah. Useful.

I guess this is a kind of hard question for anyone here to answer, since you have all read the book and know what you are looking at, but is it easy to see what is going on in the picture? Does it look like a whale visiting the moon with her own air/water supply, or is it kind of like "why is there an oval around that whale, and are those stars?"

hey dormy, do a google for GraphicsGale.
not quite as good as photoshop but it kick paints backside. has alpha tranparency and layers.
