    I don't like math!!! I have a math test on wednesday, and I'm going to fail.... Stupid exponent, hate the stupid things....

    Longest book I've read? Shogun, over 1000 pages. Longest book I've ATTEMPTED to read, due to boredom? The dictionary! I made it halfway through the A section too!

      Ah, fractions? They're baby maths. Now, if you'd posted trigonometry calculations, then I would have been impressed. I like maths but I HATE HATE HATE trig. Did I mention I can't do trig? Yeah. But 4lg3br4 rulz. Good luck for that test, Aurora... when she was 10 or so, my best friend read the dictionary (some of it) too- but only so she could say she had.

        Man, I feel old. I bogged down (about 20 years ago) in diffy-q (differential equations). Trig for me was the baby maths. Birdhead: have you tried remembering SOHCAHTOA?

        SOH -> Sin = Opposite / Hypotenuse
        CAH -> Cos = Adjacent / Hypotenuse
        TOA -> Tan = Opposite / Adjacent

        Lessee, longest book I ever read? Hmmm.. Well, recently, I worked my way through the Gormenghast trilogy in one volume, which was about 1100 pages. Ditto Lord of the Rings. And volume 3 of the Song of Ice and Fire's about 1100 all on its lonesome, so not those. But I tend to think of Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles as one big book, too, which would be about 3000 pages or so. And her House of Niccolo would be about 4000. Yeah, maybe Dunnett.

        Aurora, you need an OED (Oxford English Dictionary) for the really fascinating reading. My fave reference volume for random-open-and-reading is another Oxford U book: The World's Writing Systems. Every writing system article ends with a sample of the original text, a phonetic sounding out in English and IPA, and a literal word for word translation, and then an English translation. Juicy goodness.

          Aurora, Good luck on your exponent test. I only just learned them a few months ago, I liked them and I love Algebra (not much difference between the two but still.) I tried to read the dictionary once when I was in 4th grade but only made it to the second page of A. But a guy in my class read it and got all the way to S! that's impressive.

                Yes Rysade, it's ALL YOUR FAULT. *snicker*

                It's not that I don't understand maths- I understand it well. An online IQ test labelled me 122 and said I was best at that kind of thing...

                No, I don't mind maths much. But we already did algebra... I had trouble with that because my idiot of a teacher didn't teach us FOIL (first, outer, inner, last)... And no, I have no idea what it really means, other than I'm SUPPOSED to know it, but DON'T. But I aced algebra anyway.

                And thanks for the SOHCAHTOA, Kli6. I have a feeling I'll need that next year.

                  Can't STAND geometry. Or other types of Visual Maths. Gah. My mind just doesn't take it. It's also probably why I hate trig! I know the rules- like SOHCAHTOA (though we're currently doing, uh, what are they called? Radians. I kinda get them, but boy, sometimes I miss good old Pythagoras. Probably doesn't help that I have to teach it to myself, too) They just don't always go right for me. It probably has something to do with the fact that I also can't draw a straight line, can't draw an angle, can't measure angles, and have never drawn a proper circle in my life. Protractors and compasses hate me, and I them. Algebra, on the other hand, always works, and it's SO EASY. (comparably) *sigh* Oh, well. I'll survive (I guess) What are Polar Co-ordinates? Never done them, but they sound a lot like co-ordinate geometry- I'm OK at that.

                  And you started the math talk. Wanna get off it? Tough. Come up with something more interesting... actually, a lot of things are more interesting than trig. Like watching grass grow.

                  PS FOIL is what you use for expanding double brackets. You know, things like (x+3)(x-4)=10 But it invariably leaves me completely confused, so I never use it. You can get by without it, and do pretty well!

                    Any math BUT data and data management works for me... Hate the stupid charts and all that.

                    Yes, lets get off the math.... Like *thinks madly. Voice in head: Kai was so mean. Rei is cool. But Kai was mean.* Yes, I was watching Beyblades... *guilty grin*

                    Anyway... is it just me, or is EVERYONE on?

                      It's just you. But I think this is a good time, because Rysade's generally on around now, and there's always someone else. I'm only on cause it's the holidays, And I don't have to be at school. Is it the evening in America (The continent not the country) at the moment??

                          No, you're not. If I needed a math tutor, I'd stay after school anyday anyone BUT my math teacher is helping. My math teacher is scary...

                          Yeah, its about 8:30 EST. Unless the Guestmap decieves me, Rysade's in the same time zone as me.

                            *shudders* OK, they involve radians. I do indeed know what they are; I am currently trying to tech myself them. It's NOT working to well, as I'm sure you can imagine! I only have to do it because, since our math classes aren't streamed this year ( ) Our techers decided they couldn't teach all the topics. Consequentially, if you want to take Calculus next year, you have to teach yourself the trig section. Jeez. Like I'm not busy, or anything...

                              I feel sorry for you....

                              Ours are streamed, divided into Academic and Applied. Applied is for College- Academic for University. In Grade 11 and 12, it becomes more complicated, but that's the basics...
