  • Beware spoofed emails "from" forum-administration@youngwizards.net!!

    Friends,

Please look out for messages which claim to be from forum-administration@youngwizards.net, but aren't.

As so often (unfortunately) happens, someone's computer has been infected with one of the viruses which lifts email addresses out of the infected machine's address book and pastes them into messages containing viruses, Trojans, or links to "phishing" websites which further infect your computer or try to steal private information from you. The "forum-administration@youngwizards.net" address has been compromised this way, and is now turning up as the "source" of messages that have virus and Trojan files attached to them.

We do not send out messages with attachments. Don't click on one if you receive such a message!

We also don't send out messages with bodies that look like this one:

"If the message will not displayed automatically,
follow the link to read the delivered message.

    Received message is available at:
    www.youngwizards.net/inbox/forum-administration/read.php?sessionid-(some digits)"

The link is a scam. Though it looks like it's going somewhere on our site, it's actually secretly directing you to some other site that wants your personal information. Do not click on a link like this!

To help everyone be clear about which messages are safe, we are changing the YW forum administration address to "admin@youngwizards.net". After today, May 2nd, the "forum-administration@" address will be invalid. If you like, you can report any messages you receive "from" that address to me. But the main thing to do with such messages after today will be to trash them.

    Apologies for the inconvenience, everybody.

Unfortunately, no. The origin headers of the mails are spoofed as well.

How about using spam-tracing scripts, such as the one at spamcop.net? They don't want people to report viruses via their site, but tracing headers only is apparently Ok.
