  • New Thanks button: please use it!

There are times when you want to let someone know you saw their post, but you know that just leaving a post to say "Thanks" or "Saw that" (and nothing else of substance) will get the mods annoyed with you.

So to help you out, we've installed a "Thanks" button that will appear at the bottom of other members' posts. When you click on it, the system will leave a message under that post to tell the message's author that you've thanked them (and it'll also mention the names of everybody else who's done so).

Using the Thanks button kicks your Helpfulness stats upwards, and will eventually help qualify you for the new goodies we're going to be springing on the Forums in the next month or two. Using it will also make your hard-working moderators happy... which is a Good Thing.

    So use that button!

Lee, if I read this properly, we should only use the Thanks button to avoid MeToo-ing a post, correct? In other words, we shouldn't Thank someone and then respond at length?
"...and that's how Snuggles the hamster learned that yes, things COULD always get worse."

"You are the most insolent child I have ever had the misfortune to teach." "Thank you."

Ideally, yeah, that's what we're looking for. Any time somebody feels the need to say something (substantive) besides "thanks", a post is probably the better option. But for just noticing something, letting know others you've seen it and (ostensibly) agree or appreciate it, the button's the thing.
