As for an agnostic... Well, I think would depend on the personality of the person, no? The same thing as the two different ways of the believer... (Sorry, I've had some trouble with vocabulary since my friend happened to smack me in the head with a bow...) They'd all react differently.

Yeah, I agree; especially so because agnostics are so often... confused. No, they're less likely to have so much conviction about their beliefs, probably because they are so uncertain.

Aka me? I don't bother with religion anymore. Too many Christians trying to convert me. Last attempt was something about God and the devil fighting over my soul.... *confused* I was just like "I'll stay a agnostic, thanks..."

An agnostic is kind of like a atheist, only they wonder 'if' more.

I'm supposed to be a catholic, but ugh I just can't fit in with/don't believe in the stuff they teach. I still respect my family and anyone who is Catholic, but why do they keep trying to force me to be?

I'm not saying there is or isn't a god, how could I know. I'm skeptical yet open minded at the same time. Mostly though, Im just confused!

Michael Schermer has the best ideas on the subject of Agnosticism I've ever heard. He says that it's actually impossible for anyone to be anything but an agnostic. Nobody can prove God one way or the other, and if nobody can offer proof, then there can be no certainty, which is a very major part of faith. People are very certain about what they beleive, but often they're certain about things for reasons that are flimsy. Most of the proofs that people offer for or agaist God are flawed in a very major way. It varies from proof to proof, though, and It would take the better part of a day to go over it all. Anyway, a good link to follow for more from Michael Schermer is here. The book How We Beleive is where I got most of the stuff I was talking about. It's non-denominational in the most pure of ways. Pretty cool though.

Watch out for those skeptics, though. You don't want to go making claims without REALLY good proof to back you up. Those people will chew you up and spit you out if you say you crossed the road this morning.

The agnostic thing is interesting, but I don't really agree with it... I don't think. See, I think you choose to one extent or another what you believe. It's what you call yourself, or perhaps how you believe, that defines whether you're agnostic, atheist, or theist. For example, my Catholic friend. She fully believes in God. She can't prove it, and doesn't want to try, but I still think she's a theist- it's what she believes, rather than what those outside us believe about what we believe.
It's interesting stuff, though...

My friend's mom is very devout (i had to smuggle the YW books to my friend because her mom thinks they're the work of the devil) because she believes that god has spoken to her several times. Once while she was at work, twice in the shower and once as a child, in fact she's even writing a book about it.

going back to the original topic...

We know that sometimes in the world of wizardry, and ours also, the history of what happened becomes the ledgend of oral tradition. An example I remember is the story of the Tree. Speices choice, in both worlds. It is one of our oldest oral traditions. Gilgemesh is older, but in the ruins of Sumer, they have found stone tablet record of the King Gilgemesh as one of the kings, indepenant of the records of his exploits. Most religions start and are spread aurally. It the Wizard's world, all things can comunicate. Remember the trees who were having an argument? or the swaping fridge from Wizard's Holiday? (go read the clip if you are confused) I think that is an object can communicate, then somewhere, somewhen, they have wizards. Communication starts an oral tradition of stories of neighbors who then through time become ledgend, and may start to take the forms of god(s).
Or, as I prefer to believe, God came first, then man, then communication about God. But that is my set of beliefs in this world. In the Wizard's world, only m'lady Duane has the answers.

Larwan, sometimes people believe very firmly in God, and think He's spoken to them, and you really shouldn't ridicule them. I've seen thinks beyond human ken, and I use them to write my stories. I write SF&F and go on believing what I want. I consider my self very devout, but I read what I want. You may think I am weird also, but please, refrain from discussing it.

I agree... sensitivity is important (though I think it's also OK to disagree, so long as you do it tactfully); I personally admit I have a problem with it!

Besides, that's what private topics are for. If we want to keep this up, we'll need to find somewhere else to do it. I don't want to lose friends over something this petty.
