I was in a school library where I saw SYWTBAW. I borrowed the book but didn't bother finishing it.

I don't regret that though lol. 'Cus like 1 1/2 yrs later in prolly late 7th grade or early 8th (i forget)I was bored in Waldenbooks waiting for the Cirque du Freak book to come out and since the 2 series were in the same section, SYWTBAW just caught my hand and I bought it.

'Sides the books were out in paperback by then so they were kinda cheap. lol.

yay! i didn't know you were a tamora pierce fan, tui!! i love her books. (ban machoism to hell!!)jk. i can get very worked up...

the way i discovered the YW series is through a friend of mine. she vaugley mentioned them at lunch one day and i got curious. so i scanned my school shelves and found DW. I WAS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY HOOKED FROM THEN ON. sadly, though that friend claims otherwise, she doesn't read much now. poor poor thing!!!

My father bought me SYWTBAW in an old bookstore in Manhattan next to a steaming manhole cover back in the 80's. It's funny because that is how I got a copy of Alanna the First Adventure by Tamora Pierce. Strange little world we live in. I had no idea that DD had continued the series, until I was in my 20's and saw DW, HW and AWA on the bookstore shelf. Imagine my shock and suprise to be reunited with some of my oldest friends (I shrieked and frightened the poor salesperson). So, I now own them all and have read them more than once.
