  • Where did everyone find these books?

Hey everyone. I was at the bookstore and I saw this box that said "Box of Wizardry" Since I'm a HUGE fantasy freak, it caught my eye and I picked it up. I bought it, read it, and loved it!

I was wandering through the Young Adults Sf/f section in my library and I saw So you Want To Be A Wizard. Who wouldn't pick up a book with that title? Not me! So i got it out and read it...

Me, I found the titles listed on a "If you liked Harry Potter, you might want to read..." pamphlet. The titles caught my eye, and I searched my library for the first one. They didn't have it. I spent more time looking for them, and eventually found them at a local bookstore. I bought it, read it, and loved it, and subsequently bought the rest.

Yea. The way i found SYWTBAW was almost the same as Aurora only i was just kind of skimming and this one caught my eye and at the time i was huge on Harry Potter and it said if you liked harry potter you would like this so i bought it although the way it caught my eye was a little like how Nita found hers at the library. (i found it at a bookstore but still, creepy.)

SYWTBAW bit me in a bookstore about 17 years ago and has never let go since.

Same time frame as Vendalin's, but my "bite" was in the library, on the bottom shelf of a bookcase.

I found the recording of High Wizardy in the library, listened to it, loved it, and found the rest. Got hooked.

I went to a book store where I use to live, I was visiting a friend. I needed new books to read, and basically like Nita the book kind of snagged me. I stared at the title for a while, thinking basically that it was some cheesy joke or something. So I took it off the shelf and read the back, and freaked completely out because I was thinking the same thing. I bought it immediately and started reading, and then, HOOKED!

PART OF THE PROBLEM, Nita thought as she tore desperately down Rose Avenue, is that I can't keep my mouth shut.

Found So You... in a library many years agone. Can't remember, now, which library or exactly where, though.

I was looking for these books, though I didn't know it. I had read Diane Duane's Rhiannsiu (Star Trek) books, or at least the 1st one (I think's that's "My Enemy, My Ally", but it's been so long I forget the title). I loved them and loved her "The Door Into Fire" and "The Door into Darkness" even more. They all had respect for the elements in them (earth, air, water, fire, plasma) and the magic of honor and honesty. In the "Door Into ..." books (the Tales of the Five) accepting one's true self and being willing to love were the way to personal and magic power, and that still seems right on target.

Then it was years (late 1980's-late 1990's, it seems like) before I saw another book by D.D. I looked and looked. Finally, "So You Want To Be A Wizard? appeared on a bookstore shelf. I was glad when it did. I think I've read all the others since, and all the other Duane books except for the Marvel Comics ones and the ones about space fighters.

                          Actually...

My mom got So You Want to Be a Waizard because she thought that I'd like it and I read it once and I just couldn't get into it. Fast forward a year and I'm out of books to read. I picked it up again and LOVED it! I got all the books that were out at the time and read them each several times. Now I'm totally adicted!

I missed SYWTBAW somehow. I came in around DW in what was it '85? I thought the cover looked cool, picked it up, read the intro, and was hooked. Imagine my happiness when I found there was a book before that one! After that I avidly followed the series. In fact, I think my joy at finding out about _So_ was only exceeded by my joy of hearing about _Dilemma_. Now *that* was a massive freak out.

You could say that "Wizard Abroad" 'snagged' me in my school library 3-4 years ago. I read it and loved it, but couldn't find any other books by DD and thus forgot about it. But I found "So You Want To Be..." in the bookstore and immediately bought it, got hooked, and returned the next day for the rest of them (literally).
