    • Let's just say that it can (and does) go both ways. I've certainly encountered my share of people who think my beliefs are totally illogical--one of them is my best friend. Let's just say (and hopefully this will come across better than last time) that theists and atheists alike can be a little hypersensitive about any perceived attack on their perspective.

What I was trying to say is this: if we don't agree with someone else's point of view, if it doesn't match our understanding of the world, it's perhaps foolish to act as if those differences don't exist or don't or shouldn't matter. And maybe it's best to talk about them, hopefully in a rational manner, and not be too defensive. As long as there are differing views, people will believe other people should act and believe differently. The dividing line, I think, is if people of good will can talk things out freely and work together despite their differences.

The Eternal Soldier was stating an opinion (a generalization) that he/she didn't believe there were truly atheists and that the thought was horrific enough that the human mind wouldn't want to accept it. I happen to think that's probably wrong. There are a lot of reasons why a mind could like atheism and a lot of people that aren't horrified by it at all and, in fact, consider atheism the only rational approach to the world. But if The Eternal Soldier would personally consider the idea of not having a God horrifying, that's his/her opinion. He/she never said that anybody, individually or collectively, was horrible or irrational. And I think we can let this comment go without assuming that he/she meant offense to anyone who believes differently.

I hope that made sense. Thanks, all!
I solemnly swear I am up to no good...

      • ...isn't this a bit off topic?

I didn't know we YW fans had our own war on religion too...is that a sign we're getting big enough to fight harry potter?

        • I believe in magic. Solidly and indefinitely. If there was no such thing as magic, then how do miracles happen? Why does love happen? Think about it and you'll believe too unless ur a scientist that thinks a little chemical is triggered when you meet certain people and that is why we love. You then would be what I call clinically crazy and do not deserve books rooted in fantasy. *nods* Now, if you agree with me then there is not a problem. lol
I'm a happy person. Do you know why? Because happiness is an excuse everyone understands. Life is full of surprises, but happy people takes them in stride.

              • I dunno if I believe about magic(k) per se, but I do believe in energy and its transferance. I know that there are times when I have been angry or excited or anxious and the light next to me blows. This has happened about eight times in the last 3 months.
I also have a lot of deja vu in two different forms. One is that I dream about something happening, and I actually experience it a couple months later. The other form is simply getting an image or word in my head that references something immeadiate. I have no explanation for these occurances.
I am a logical scientific person, and I don't know how to explain these things that have happened to me.
But I do have to say that I have a problem with people believe that by saying some words and lighting some candles, you can change the nature of themselves or the universe. But I do believe that people can use their own energy to affect their surroundings.
I also don't believe in coincidences.

I am prolly about on the same page as hyper-horse, I believe in energy and, well like what hyper-horse said. ANd I have all sorts of dreams of things, and then they happen, or major deja vu as well, or just the little things, I know when the phone is going to ring b4 it does, or I know who is on the phon b4 answering it if it is for me, little things that arn't quite.. normal? is that the right word?

                          • So, Drama_Queen, I don't believe in magic, so I do not believe you had any impact on the other team's free throws.

But assuming for the sake of discussion that you could have that sort of effect, do you really think that would be an ethical use of magic?

                              • Ok Miss Bluesalamnders, i don't know. It could be magic is all I'm saying. I do believe in magic. I mean it had to be sometime, if it's not now. It just has to be. So whether that was magic or not, I'm not one to say, but I believe it is. I guess though, it wouldn't truly be ethical. We did end up losing that game, however.
