  • Musical observation (aka Wizardly Playlists)

To tie together the "music we like" thread and the thread where we discussed appropriate songs for "A Wizard's Dilemma," I just happened to observe the other day that "No One is Alone" from "Into the Woods" is quite fitting for "A Wizard Alone." The "Mother cannot guide you" bits are self-explanatory, but it also makes the point that the reason people make a lot of their mistakes is because they think nobody is standing beside them.

I haven't heard the song, but it sounds cool.

Actually, I was thinking about that the other day, and I thought maybe "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles is really good for Alone. The sort of optimistic spirit at the end? Yeah. I mean, it's not hugely deep or anything, but:
"Little darling, it's been a long and lonely winter.
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here...
      Here comes the Sun! dee-deedee-dee
Here comes the sun, and I say,
      It's alright!"
(NB: Lyrics may not be right. I have never been good at hearing it right.)
Yeah... I thought that was kinda cool. And maybe "I am a Rock" for Nita at the beginning, and... a whole lot of other ones which I have temporarily forgotten.

definitely. Don't know the song, though... actually, don't even know the band, but that's not entirely unexpected.

The Chemical brothers are pretty good. They're just hard to find. There's an easy one to find called Setting Sun on The Saint

I'd try to find it, except the computer with Kazaa is extremely bust. I mean, not working in any way shape or form, which is a pity on a whole multitude of levels... but I might be able to find them other places. I'll take a look, you never know.

Rysade, I looked up the Chemical Brothers and found the video online, and I agree, it's really something. I 'specially liked the jellyfish, though heaven help the poor girl if she were actualy in the midst of so many.

Well, I found several CDs by the Chemical Brothers at the library, but forgot name of song, so didn't get anything out. Ah well. Next week. Any other songs (or CDs) that are any good?

At the library?! Lucky bird! Wish my library was that varied. We've got worship. Oh, and some (SOME) classical and some (SOME) country. And kid's cds. Actually, the Disney's villans' theme song CD is kinda cool, but the rest? - - , and in that order too.

I had a theme for Dillema, but that wouldn't fit the topic. (Five for fighting, Superman (NOT Kryptonite, which I think is 3 doors down))

Maybe some Oasis, such as It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) or D'You Know What I Mean. The second one is especailly appropriate because of the chorus:

I met my maker, I made him cry
And on my shoulder he asked my why
His people won't fly through the storm
I said 'Listen up man, we don't even know you're born'

Elenor Rigby as Darrel's theme song?
Maybe the new-ish remake by the gothband I can't remember the name of?

How many disassociated Bocce fanatics does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

                          Eleanor Rigby, nice one....

Superman (It's Not Easy): I love that song. That's one of the best songs ever... yeah, you're right, it's good for Dilemma; and perhaps also for Ronan. Though I do hate that idea, because I don't really like him; but... it kinda fits.

I also like I Am A Rock, now that I think about it, for Darryl- hiding in my room/ safe within my womb/ I touch no-one and no-one touches me... although Darryl is really not a depressed angsty person, and that's quite a depressed angsty song. Possibly Bridge Over Troubled Water... especially given his role as Abdal. Or, ooh, El condor Pasa (If I could?) And I Am A Rock especially for Kit as he begins to become trapped within Darryl's autism.

Also, rather randomly just now, isn't the Only Living Boy in New York just perfect for Tom and Carl? (OK, that's rather random... but still.)

And yet another good song for Nita- Let it Be. (When I find myself in times of trouble/Mother Mary comes to me/ Speaking words of wisdom/let it be.)

"Tom, get your plane right on time
                              I know you're part'll go fine,
                              Fly down to Mexico,
                              Here I am,
The only living boy in New York"

Bride Over Troubled Water seems too used already. I think it would be a bit of a cop-out. Every sad scene could have that applied to it, really...

I Am a Rock is a great one for Daryll!

                              "I am alone,
                              Gazing from my window,
                              To the streets below
A freshly fallen silent shroud of snow"

                              "Within walls
                              A fortress deep and mighty
                              That none may penetrate"

                              "I have my books
And my poetry to protect me.
I am shielded in my armor.
                              Hiding in my room,
                              Safe within my womb,
I touch no one and no one touches me."

                              That last bit REALLY works!

"And a Rock feels no pain,
                              And an Island never cries..."
