I actually think I love the book a wee bit better. When the movie came out, friends would ask me anxiously if it was good (because we all loved the book), and I'd get a grin out of them by saying that the film was the Good Parts Version of the book.

I love how Goldman has you all ready to go to the library and start looking up S. Morgenstern books.

I'd say it's a close call, but I like the book a teensy bit better than the movie. The mood of the book and the mood of the movie are a little bit different. But probably the clincher is that the movie doesn't have the scenes with Princess Noreena in it. I loved her! And the Zoo of Death, that was pretty neat, but it would've been hard to do in the movie. I also liked learning Fezzik's and Inigo's history... Well, my favorite scene in both the book and the movie is the same: Inigo and Westly's swordfight. I get all giggly and happy whenever I read/watch that. "I am not left handed!" Eeeeheeeheeeheeheehee... I love it.

For a little while there, when I was younger (9 or so, when I first read the book) I did believe that S. Morgenstern was real... I asked dad to take me to the bookstore to find him, and I was so sad when I couldn't find any of his books. Dad just kind of grinned... I still haven't forgiven him for not telling me. He let me figure it out on my own, when I went to an encyclopedia and looked up Florin and Guilder. I thought they were real countries...

Goldman really fools you not only with the conviction of his telling, but also by throwing in scraps of truth as the narrator. Goldman really did write the screenplay for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and it probably will be the thing they put on his headstone, etc. I don't think I cottoned on until I was about three-quarters of the way through the book, and there's nobody I've met who loved the book who wasn't fooled that way. It's so much a part of the fun.

And then there's the whole Buttercup's Baby thing.

I've actually seen people post in book communities asking where they can find S. Morgenstern's full version. Not everyone gets the joke so quickly

Well, I've only read the book once and I don't own it (yet), but I own the DVD and have seen the movie approximately a billion times, so I think my movie-love edges out my book-love by sheer dint of familiarity. But! Y'all have reminded me I've been wanting to re-read the book, so that'll probably happen soonest, and who knows what may change?

I think the duel on the clifftop is probably my favourite thing too, but "So long! Have fun storming the castle!" and Mr & Mrs Miracle always make me laugh the hardest.

Wow, I'm a really big nerd who just made herself happy.
And the rest of us, too!

Just letting you all know, I probably won't make the Abroad chat tomorrow. I'll try to be there if I can but some stuff has happened meaning I'll be unavoidably busy tomorrow, so, well, I hope to see y'all, but if I don't have a good chat anyway.

Hey, hey, Ella can't make the chat for the next few weeks and I think it'd be sad if she had to miss out 'cause, you know, she's the one who organised them and she's the one who re-reads most reliably and, hey, we love her. So, Ella, what other times can you do? *prods you*

I'm not going to be able to make any more of the chats either, I don't think, as I go back to uni next week, and courtesy of a morning lecture, I have to leave the house before the chat starts. *grumbles about buses*. If Ella can't make these ones, is it possible for it to switch to a weekend slot? Such as some time around when the DD chats usually are, possibly...

                      Hey Kids--

I just checked my schedule and it turns out that I'll miss Dilemma and Holiday, but I should be around for Alone and War if all goes well. However, if you guys still want to think about changing the time, I can check again and be positive about when I'll be around.

                      Aw, Tui, you're so sweet.

                      And so I do what I do, and at least I exist;

Monday afternoon/Tuesday morning is definitely a bit of a difficult time for some people - I mean, it's pretty much coincidence that I can make it. I don't know what Alla's timetable is like, but I could definitely make a Sat/Sun chat... afternoon or evening, EST, possibly?

                        Aw, Tui, you're so sweet.

Saturday 29th - or Sunday 30th for Tui and Alla - at the normal DD chat time... will have a DD chat. Just thought I'd remind people of that.

I can't go online for long between 6am and 6pm BST (1am and 1pm EDT), but I don't suppose many people would pick then anyway.

Hey do you guys mind if I pop in for the next discussion? I have just reread the entire series this summer. Um when is the next one by the way?

Welcome Katie Sure you can join in. <STRIKE>We love new blood...</STRIKE> uh... yes . Dai, Cousin, anywho Not too sure when the next one is. I'm hoping for a weekend chat. As I have lectures on a tuesday morning (which is when the chat is for me) and I can't get into the chat at uni.

PM: I meant a little bit later than the DD chats - as in along the lines of an hour or two later, as, as much as I like chatting with you guys, a 5am start on a Sunday is a hard slog . Perhaps the Sunday could have a discussion after the DD chat (I've just realised that I can't make that chat either ), but yes, as then most people will be around.

Rather than making another post about this: Can someone say hi to DD for me - I'm going to be at a camp with the rest of my fellow MedSocians. *is sad* Every time there is a DD chat, I always seem to have something on
