  • Look everybody!! (group reading of YW)

I was thinking about it the other day, and I realized that it's been a long while since I have completely read many of the books in the series we all love so much. Although I often go back and revisit my favorite passages, I took the notion that it would be nice to reread all of the books in the series in order. It then occurred to me that I have the great discussion partners that I do, some of whom may (if I may venture this idea) be in the same situation as me. And even if you're not, you might like this idea anyway.

So since it is now summer for those of us in the western hemisphere, and since for many of us summer means blessed free time, it occurred to me to have an organized "series reread" where we have a set amount of time to pick up the same book in the series, read and enjoy, and then come together in chat at a set time for discussion. This would be a relaxed thing, and obviously anyone could participate in chats even if they weren't participating in the organized "book club" of sorts.

Anyway, I'm not sure if anybody will be interested, but if you are, post here and let me know. Please include any ideas you may have!!

    Thanks!

I think that's a great idea! I've been wanting to reread the series for a while now, but my lovely friend has somehow misplaced my SYWTBAW. I let her borrow it...over a year ago now. So I kept badgering her to get it back, and I still haven't. *sigh* I'll be lucky to get it back by the end of highschool.

So, yeah. I think that's a lovely idea. I would just have to get another copy of SYWTBAW, and it'd be all good!

I'd be in. If forced (or just really intrigued by one of the books like on first reads) I can finish one up in 36 hours. Though, I expect we'll have more time then that

To make up for my earlier one-line poot-post, I have a suggestion! It's that we read a book per week! With 8 books, that's a nice steady two months.

I'm in, I think that would be really interesting, the having discussions while reading.

As for how often I really don't care, because I know I will be able to keep up, but instead I need to add in that there needs to be the ability to obtain the books too (if people don't own them )

I think a book a week makes sense, any more time than that it'd get too long between books for those who're reading at the beginning.

I like the sound of the discussions, but I don't think I'll reread all the books - I'm theoretically rereading WAW at the moment, to make the timeline for it. If I go back and reread them all, starting from SYWTBAW, I'll never get the timeline done.

Yeah, sorry, I'm out. Not enough time, thanks to work and all (also kept me from the group re-read of SoIaF on that board). Sounds like a really fun idea, though! Hmmm... I wonder if the Discworld board ever tries to do this kind of thing...
New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

I'll be up for it - gimme a hoy when you get up to Deep Wizardry. My copy of SYWTBAW is currently on assignment. Should be fun, but one book a week One day for reading and six for discussion?

I like this idea. I'm in.

My only suggestion is that we might hold the discussions in the spoiler chatroom, since it's there. It will keep it separate from the regular chat and will not spoil the people who haven't read all the books yet.

Great! I'm glad I could get people to jump on the bandwagon. A book a week seems like a good schedule, and the spoiler chatroom too, especially if people who aren't part of the discussion want to have a separate chat.

I'm going to wait a day or two to give more people time to see this. Remember, you don't have to participate in the whole thing, if you just want to jump in for a book or two that would be great. How about we start the official reading of SYWTBAW next week, on Sunday or Monday, and have a chat the following Sunday or Monday? You guys will have to let me know what times are best to chat.

Thanks for having enthusiasm for this idea! Let me know of any idea you have. I'm looking forward to doing this with you guys.

Drat. I'm leaving for Florida on the 24th...next Saturday. So I'll have to skip the discussion of at least SYWTBAW, but that's fine. I don't even have the book at the moment, hehe.

Cool idea, Ella. We can schedule mini chat parties or whatever. Dates to finish the books by. I know some of you can start a book one day and finish it by night, but how 'bout we set the "due dates" a week or two apart, minimum. I don't have as much time to read anymore, but I do want to reread these sometime.

Might not be able to make it for a book or two; I'll be out of start again for at least three weeks. But I want to try to be a part of it as I can.

I would like to join in. A book a week would be good, but I haven't read the eighth book yet. I'll see if my friend would like to join in too. I only get out of school the 26th, but I'm sure that I'll be able to finish a book until then. When will we be starting?

I'd do it, just I'd have to discuss based on memory for HW, and Dilemma. I lent them to a cousin. And luckily I just reread Alone.
