Ellen Hopkins Uninvited to Lit Festival; Fellow Authors Withdraw in Protest

A handful of YA authors who were scheduled to attend the Humble ISD Libraries' Teen Lit Festival in Texas this January won't be going after all. Organizers uninvited writer Ellen Hopkins--and most of her fellow presenters withdrew to protest the censorship.
"...and that's how Snuggles the hamster learned that yes, things COULD always get worse."

"You are the most insolent child I have ever had the misfortune to teach." "Thank you."

Ah, that's rude! Inviting and then uninviting? I haven't read those books myself, but I know they are critically acclaimed- are the organizers so worried about the quote unquote moral corruption in them?

If so, ban books that glorify unhealthy behavior (Twilight, anyone?), rather than ones that expose it and show the consequences, please! If the teens or their parents don't like the candidness, they won't read. Simple as that.

    *gets off soapbox* XD
