Slightly geeky moment today...i was responding to a question from somebody about something, and my history teacher thought i wasn't paying attention, so he tried to get me with a question. I easily got it. and he goes "well...you only really needed to say the first part of that.." and "you know, it really sucks when you try to nail a guy who isn't paying attention, and he gets the question right anyways..." What he didn't know is that i was probably following the conversation with half an ear, and new everything they were teaching anyways. *grins evily*I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

That's funny YR!
The other day, a teacher was asking us questions about the chapter we were reading. The guy who sits next to me was one of those people who could be smart if they did the work and i answered the question to myself and he caught it and told the teacher my answer. when she asked him to ellaborate, he was like "uh..." and the teacher was all "Did you know the answer or did Juliann tell you?" and we both started laughing.
then everyone was laughing and i had to finish the answer. he was all "next time, say the whole thing out loud, okay?" It wasn't exactly geeky, butit was funny.
"You're so funny. Sometimes, I wish I was a little elf, so I could ride around on your shoulder all day and laugh at you." - my mom. (Yes, she honestly told me that. *rolls eyes*)

here is one that is way geekier...i was entering a biotech challenge. my group members were like yeah whatever, get a topic. so i went all out and drove down to the downtown library in toronto (which was a boring half an hour). i then startedlooking through the journals for several hours...actually quite interested....freaky.
and yr, i totally relate. i do that all the time. half listen and somehow manage to make it through with a comfrontation like that....its rather rewarding when you really can answer a question when not paying attention. i did that in english. oneof my friends joined the stock market competition (www.investyoung.org <-- if anyone is interested...you get a million virtual dollars. as clse as ill get to that amount...hehehe) and so my teacher was reading a chapter from pride and prejudice (i was suppose to pay attention and "listen to the events unfold". after he was done, he asked me "so what can you say about mr. collin's character ivana (thats my real name btw). and i was like...."wha oh mr. collins blah blah...." he was totally not pleased with me not paying attention, especially when im sitting in the front row since i cannot see the board that good....hehehe.

I've lost all faith in the honor class system...i can outpace evey single person in my honors class, and i STILL have to help with definitions and interpitation of poems, AND i find the entire thing easy as regular english...I love the teacher i've got though, since she reads the same books as me, so it all works out. *cheers* but still...it's slightly infuriating...but it also makes up half my geeky moments. :PI'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

geeky moment...well, partly. Not geeky part is that it happened during one of the few times i needed to ask a question, cause i had been distracted during the explanation....tuesdays i get up really early and am easily distracted. geeky part is that even when i was asking a question, people were saying i know all about this stuff, and asking ME questions...
oh, and i think you know you're fairly geeky when you can't even say that you can do things that sound impossible, and have people say anything else then "we know you can do it...you always do it." i don't know weahter to be annoyed, or pleased they think i'm that smart.
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

I like my Honors class; it's a lot of fun, even if our teacher is nuts. (in a good way, however; she loves reading every bit as much as I do. XD) I almost always know the answer, but I tend to keep quiet unless nobody else knows the answer. If I answered every single question, I'd get even more weird looks than I do already. :P
I tend to get my most geeky moments in Spanish, though I consider English to be my best subject. I have a knack for languages, I guess--they fascinate me. At the moment, I'm working on four. English (of course,) Spanish, Bangla, and Arabic. Arabic is by far the trickiest out of all of those...it's grammar is KILLER.
So my geekiest moment today was that I wrote a list of ten books I had to read, but within a week or so. Yeah, a week. What kills me is when people think I'm pulling their legs when I say I can finish a book in a day or two.
I'm guessing that's the same for many of the people on this site. *grin* Then again, maybe that was more book-wormish than geeky?
My second most geeky thing is that we're doing the geography bee, and I was in the class finals. Amazing, really, since geography isn't one of my strong points, but no one else was surprised. I ended up getting second place; the person who got it happened to give a wild guess with Mexico; I said Puerto Rico. The question had been about some country (we knew it was Hispanic because our teacher mentioned a city inside it) owning a bit of land near Port Royal. *shrug* Another had been a question about the most widely spoken dilect of Chinese; Mandarin, which both me and another person got. And the last one, which was really strange; which mountain range did the creature from Tibetan legend, the Yeti, supposedly live in? The Himalayas, duh. I was very surprised when only I knew the answer that; hadn't these people ever watched Monsters Inc before? (you know! Yeti: "Welcome, to the Himalayas!)

Peri - I wonder how you manage 4 languages at one go; I'm suffering because of only 2 languages! Oh, and I didn't know that Mandarin was a dialect - I thought it was the language itself!! (I should be less ignorant about my mother tongue
)
I think my most geeky moments happen in Mathematics lessons... My friends look at me whenever the teacher announces a 100% score in any maths test. And they think I'll be able to solve any problem that they look for me to help even when I haven't started on the topic *frustrated* Seems like I'm in the same situation as most of us here...
Oh, and yesterday, I had been discussing something about the Greek myths with a friend, and she kept giving me weird looks... I thought whatever I said (which wasn't much) were quite famous among people, like the differing views on the "births" of some characters....
I finally got Slawter!!! But I'm still waiting for A Wizard on Mars

yeah...and it's slightly geeky. though not here, since everyone here can do it, though most of us don't have time for that anymore...as far as i'm concerned, it's geeky just to have class expect it of you.
I mean, my last geeky moment was the fact that everyone was talking about how impossible a task was, in a shakespears club i'm in, and i say "i can do it" only to find out they all EXPECT me to be able to do it!I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Doc, actually, four languages isn't that bad. Especially as I've been lagging on my Arabic studies lately...*sigh* Since i teach myself Arabic, sometimes I really have to push myself to get myself to practice.
>.< Man, I wish I was better at math. I mean, I'm not horrible--a B+ at the moment--but it's definitely my worst subject. It's so hard for me, and i think I know why; because I think abstractly, it's hard for me to grasp a concept as unchangeable as math. *shrug* Everyone has their weak points.
Greek mythology is really pretty cool. :P And may I ask what your siggy means? "War is Peace"? "Freedom is Slavery"? "Ignorance is Strength"? Just curious.
YR, I know the feeling. :P And if I make a mistake (which I do, since I'm human) then they kind of give me funny looks like, aren't you supposed to be the smart one...? An example would be that we're doing possessive adjectives in Spanish. They're not too difficult, except for the "their informal" form. (which is, might I add, only used in Spain...) So when somebody asked me for help on a question about that, they ended up getting it wrong. Well, I TOLD them that I'm not good at that one, but do they listen? Nope, they just get mad when they end up getting a point off or something. People these days, man...XD

i cant totally relate to you Doc. the chinese language has so many dialects, you learn one and you really can't understand someone when they speak another dialect. i tried to learn canto, but had little luck....i know how to write my name and say general stuff....but no, no luck.
and peridexis, thats so cool. four! i only know three and a half. english, french, american sign language (if you count that) and canto.
my friends are teasing my. i lost $42,000.00 in virtual stock amrket trading. so far, i've been able to regain $10,000.00 of it <sigh>. they think im to much of a business guru...rich is quite strange because i have never really taken any business courses. only introduction to business which was all IT (word, excel, powerpoint, database...and i knew them already). i sort of wish i took some business courses now, because my friend is telling me to invest in bluechip companies...and i was like technology? and shes like no...its bank stuff. (which was what i invested in to lose all my money...) freaked out here, getting report card and one of my friends are already calculating scholarship amounts...<sigh> freaked out. hehehe....

Peri - I quoted from the book 1984 by George Orwell. In the book it's actually a form of propoganda for the citizens... sort of... I don't really know how to say it clearly. Sorry. It's a nice book, though
Balthasar, it's sad about your stock market trading. Maybe I just categorise them (the dialects) all under the language since almost all the written words are common. Are you part or totally Chinese?? Just curious...

yes i am...more chinese than anything.
these are the last dying minutes until i will get my report cards...<sigh>.
another geek moment, i have to do a philosophy presentation. let me be honest here, me and history do not like each other. so, to make sure i had my history claims straight, i just did my presentation before my history lovin' friend. ironically, i got it all straight. then my friend said i really didnt need to "practise". hehe

i feel increadibly geeky when people who are as smart as me are convinced i'm smarter...which, i technically might be, but their obviously putting enough effort into things that the difference doesn't matter, and yet still are going on about how much smarter i am...I sometimes think people are as likely to come to me for help as the teacher in some subjects. peri: come to new york! i'll tuter you in math! i've got above twelth grade math level!I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

hahaha....you should tutor then. lol. i am taking geometry, advance function and calculus, and data managment. geometry is pretty good. data management, i make many careless mistakes. and advance function is a different story. hehehe. i just got my mark back yesterday, and i expected long talks with my parents about my future; but i got scott free? <confused>
geeky moment is that last summer, i spent my whole summer simply going to the library, rather than sitting in front of the computer on chat with any of you guys or watching TV. and now my school blocks the chat <crying>.
