Right. I think we were all n00bs until the topic of great randomness came along, and made us all into oldbies.

Then PPC et. al. came along and became the NEW n00bs.

It's odd. I didn't know anyone from any other websites, definitely didn't know anyone in person/ "real life", but sometimes I feel as if I just fit in perfectly. Then again, sometimes I feel as if everyone's off in a world that I don't understand. On the other hand, I sometimes feel like that at school...oh well.

Skitty - you aren't the only one who was blind! I didn't notice the website until Holiday!

I found this website doing a websearch on 'Diane Duane'. I wanted to know a little background on the author of my new favorite book series. (I think it was after I had finished Deep wizardry... No, wait... It was way after that.) How long did it take you guys to read SYWTBAW? I read it in three days. Yeah. Got it for my twelf birthday and read it as soon as I got it, the next day as we drove in the car for seven hours and the day after that when I was sitting on my bed. Yeah, I skipped a day of reading... The total span from when I got it to finishing it was four days, but I only spent three days reading it so... Yeah... I think all of what I just said is pointless.

...wow, I'm a milestone now. Does that mean I'm the Bringer of the Second Generation? *feels special*
When I first joined, I lurked a lot...and posted a lot in abandoned threads...and...yeah. *is not making sense*
I actually found this website because I'd finished Deep Wizardry recently and didn't have anything else to do. *looks guilty at being trivial*
This place is the best, really.

I got here after reading it in the jacket on Dilemma. And you're right: this place is the best. It's home, really. Actually, that's one of the reasons I really loved Gibson's Pattern Recognition. This is how he describes a forum opening:

"The front page opens, familiar as a friend's living room.
                          [SNIP]
... a familiar cafe that exists somehow outside of geography and timezones."

Yeah. Succint, accurate. He later goes on to talk about off topicness, how it's like a catharsis... helps us to
""Get on with ordinary business. Morale building... she wonders, really, if she ever uses [F:F:F] any other way. It is the gift of "OT," Off Topic."

I concur with that. I remember that there had been remarkably little activity except the people who were already members, and then some person comes along who we've never seen and starts posting and we're like "huh?"

It was WEEEEird. I had completely forgotten that people could JOIN this crazy place. But now you got a nickname and everything, so you're a second gen oldbie. When you start explaining your inside jokes to somebody new, then you're not a newbie anymore, that's for sure.
