  • What if... (during / after SYWTBAW)

What if... when Fred Died, instead of dying he became a black hole starting over his life cycle at the last moment. Would it have destroyed earth, would Nita and Kit have had enough time to transport him back to where he came from or would this have been possible in any way?
What if... Nita and Kit had not known each other at all or maybe they got off on a bad start at their first meeting. How would things have worked out if their specialties had been different in the begining?
How do you think these things would have worked out? Any other ideas?

While I don't feel like speculating on your second hypothetical situation, Civi, I will take a stab (actually, several well-aimed rapier thrusts) at your first one:

          1. Why do you assume that Fred would restart his life cycle as a black hole? As I see it, he has converted all of his mass-energy into electromagnetic radiation, precluding him starting his life cycle over as a massive body of any sort --especially not a black hole.

          2. Inasmuch as Fred's (very large) mass is kept far away from his 'actual' position (i.e., where he emits photons) by a "singularity-class temporospatial claudication" (SYWTBAW, p. 103), any changes in his mass would not (gravitationally) affect Earth. A more interesting question (to me at least), is whether it is possible (in string theory) to make some sort of a 'pipe' that would let through photons but not gravitons --given the fundamental difference between gravitons and photons in string theory, it does not seem improbable, though my (very limited) knowledge of string theory does not allow me to conjecture any further on the subject (due to sting theory's rather speculative nature, I'm not sure whether a specialist would be able to get much further, though).

A corollary to the above: If the 'pipe' had started letting through gravitons while Fred's mass was still intact, a black hole probably would have been created at his 'actual' position (though I'm sure this is dependent upon the general relativity/quantum physics connection, for which, as I hinted above, even string theory has not provided a really satisfactory solution).

Yes, in as many words. Also that it strikes me as a highly implausible scenario.
