I know that Dairine has this connection with the mobiles that she helped create and helped them refuse death (that means they'll never die?).

What I'm confused about is that if she had the power of all those wizards, how can she burn out so fast? And what about their Ordeal?

    Speculative answers anyone?

I think the connection is less of a power-conduit type thing, and more of a mental thing. In some situations Dairine can form a circle with them in which they act as a power conduit, and Dairine does the active spelling, but I'm pretty sure that Dairine's burnout is all her own...

What happened to the mobiles?... I think they all moved to Alabama.

*tick* (All I've got with me is a plastic soda bottle.)

I think Birdhead's right -- the mobiles can act all together, and fed Dairine power while she spelled when she was hooked in and essentially made a mobile herself. But the burnout is her own; their power is, presumably, usually used for their own purposes.

And yeah, hopefully she'll become reconciled to the reduced energy levels and changing strengths. Probably directing all the mobiles' will and energy together made the feeling of crashing even sharper.... She seemed pretty calm (if slightly pushy?) about the prospect of not being able to do the star-timeslide in a few weeks, in Abroad, but once she really did encounter something she couldn't fix....

Was Dairine's Ordeal their Ordeal as well?

                    BEING quicklife would be cool.
...you think so? I don't... computers are not intuitive, and half the fun in life is being intuitive. Not to impugn the mobiles (Quill:hah.) but, I dunno, being a cumputer jsut doesn't appeal to me.

I think Rysade means Quicklife as in what happened to Dairine, you know, having your mind and consiousness slipped into a quicklife "envelope". Then it would be feasible I guess...

                        No. Then you can't
                        -eat chocolate
                        -play with your hair
                        -eat at all...
                        -sleep
                        -do lots of other stuff.
                        I prefer humanity...

I'm sure the mobiles are happy with it. *g* I think being slipped into an envelope in that fashion would probably be.. healthy... for a human only if there were very good reason.

I'm not sure the mobiles can't also be intuitive, though.

And weighing in somewhat unnecessarily, I think being a new wizard and part of your species' Choice would probably count pretty well as Ordeal as well.

ETA: Hey, that's right, wasn't remaking the Saurians' choice part of Ith's ordeal in TBONWM?
