Eddings... well, I like Eddings (in fact I am currently re-reading the tamuli) But I would be lying if I said I thought he was any good as an author. Face it, he recycles plot and character, his dialogue is only sometimes good, and his description unpoetic. Aren't I mean?
The maori are the... well, not indigenous. They are the Polynesian people who got to new Zealand before the Europeans did. See posts in CHatter... somewhere...

As far as I understood, Ed was the original Pale Slayer; it's implied in one of his last conversations with Nita.
And as someone (a few someones) already said - I also think that the fact that the original Pale Slayer, with the ancient power of his undying, has changed the song and sacrificed himself, would bind the Lone Power stronger.
And his death was one of the moments when I was all choked up; and when Kit and Nita saw him in Timeheart, it was great!

I cried ALOT during DW...That's why I've never re-read it...it was too sad...I've also never re-read Dillemma...Of course, I cry ALOT when I read books or watch movies...I cried all through those two, cried htrough Harry Potter books 4 and 5...cried through Lilo and Stitch, cried through Tuck Everlasting, cried at Pay it Forward........I just cry alot.....

I'm of the opinion he has lengthy conversations with wizards on the theoretical existence of Timeheart. Just because he's there doesn't mean he has to change his opinion...
