Yeah, Rysade, infringing on the Lone One's power now, are you?

Nearly, but not quite. That particular incarnation of the Lone Power (though really he's far too benign, not to mention cluelesss, to be truly evil) is the invention of Terry Pratchett, from his wonderful, hilarious Discworld series, which you all should read. He also appears in American Gods, co-authored with Neil Gaiman.

I b'lieve "Pterry" is a combination of "Terry Pratchett."

As for my original speculation, I guess no one saw the connection. No one reads Ms. Duane's NetForce books? I've only read one but it sure gave me ideas...

Dex Lives No, I'm not the author. I just think you should read it.

                    Terry Pratchett?

Oh, boy, better let Birdhead field THAT one. I read one of the Discworld books... It was pretty good. Lords and Ladies. It was funny, too!

You don't know who Terry pratchet is? Quelle (or is it quel?) horreur! He's the author of many many books, and his best-known are the Discworld books, ostensibly a series, but more 52 books all set in the same place. They're very very funny satire, lampooning everything from Macbeth to the Postal Service to the Police Force (actually, that's not really lampooning. Unless you count Colon). Nothing is sacred... and they're hilarious, and occasionally tragically true. READ THEM.

Almost, Birdhead, almost. Death appears in Good Omens, which Terry and Neil co-wrote. American Gods was pure Gaiman, and while it had lots of gods and supernatural beings in it, Death was absent. Both are excellent books, however, well worth the read.
